Sadly, another victim of the WODs!
A Cleveland man arrested Saturday in a suspected drug deal died about three hours later, apparently after swallowing some cocaine he had concealed inside his mouth, police said.
Cuyahoga County Coroner Elizabeth K. Balraj said Stanley Eric White, 39, had no injuries or obvious cause of death. She said she will determine what killed him after a series of tests, which will take several weeks.White, of the 3400 block of E. 147th St., caught the attention of police at 8:24 a.m. Saturday at E. 144th St. and Kinsman Rd. He was in the driver's seat of a car talking to a passenger while a third man stood outside, making police believe a drug deal was taking place, said police spokesman Sgt. Mark C. Hastings.Police stopped to talk with White, but he drove away. Officers caught up with him on E. 146th St., and, in searching him, found what appeared to be crack cocaine in his pockets, Hastings said. White resisted, Hastings said, putting up such a struggle that two officers were needed to handcuff him.White continued to resist at Fourth District police headquarters, where he had to be forced out of the patrol car, Hastings said. He became paranoid and loud.Inside the station, police noticed what appeared to be a cellophane bag inside White's mouth. When they ordered him to spit it out, White refused. He began chewing rapidly, Hastings said, and began drooling a mixture of blood and foam.Hastings said officers tried to pry open White's mouth to remove the bag, but White flailed his legs as he writhed to avoid them. After a few minutes of intense struggle, White spit out a chewed-up bag containing a white substance.Moments later, White suffered a seizure, and police summoned paramedics, Hastings said. White remained combative in the ambulance, and he died at the hospital less than two hours after he arrived.Cocaine is a stimulant that, in large doses, can cause the heart to race dangerously fast. Balraj said tests will determine whether White's heart had been racing before he died.
