Gov. Gary Johnson was hospitalized this morning with fractures in his spine after slipping and falling during his morning exercise."He is not paralyzed but we don't know the extent other than some possible fractures," said Lt. Gov. Walter Bradley, speaking shortly after the Senate convened on Wednesday.
Johnson, an accomplished tri-athlete, slipped on a patch of ice and fell on his back as he began his morning run at 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the governor's office. First Lady Dee Johnson and the governor's security detail took the governor to St. Vincent Hospital, where he is reportedly doing well and in good spirits. The governor was treated in the emergency room and given a CT scan and x-rays which revealed fractures in his upper back. Doctors determined the governor has "compression fractures of the thoracic spine," the press release said.Johnson was admitted to the hospital for treatment and observation. He is expected to stay in the hospital through this evening. He was listed in good condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.Spokeswoman Diane Kinderwater said bed rest is the prescribed treatment for the fractures. Surgery is not expected to be necessary, she said.Johnson was expected to leave Santa Fe Thursday for Washington D.C. to attend the inaguration of President Bush. Some four-inches of overnight snow fell in Santa Fe, delaying the opening of state government offices and hearing by the Legislature.Source: Santa Fe New Mexican (NM)Author: Mark Hummels, The New Mexican Published: January 17, 2001Copyright: 2001 The Santa Fe New MexicanAddress: 202 E Marcy, Santa Fe, N.M. 87501Fax: (505) 986-3040Contact: letters sfnewmexican.comWebsite: http://www.sfnewmexican.com/Contact Information: E-mail: gov gov.state.nm.usWeb: http://www.governor.state.nm.us/Phone: (505) 827-3000Fax: (505) 827-3026Address: State Capitol, 4th FloorSanta Fe, NM 87503 CannabisNews Articles - Governor Gary Johnsonhttp://cannabisnews.com/thcgi/search.pl?K=gary+johnson Governor's Drug Policy Advisory Group http://www.governor.state.nm.us/drug_policy/drug_policy.htmNote To CannabisNews Readers: Since we appreciate what Governor Johnson is doing for us I thought I should post this article. "Oh, God, no!"
That was my first reaction. My second was to send an email to the Guv courtesy of his web site, letting him know that we are praying for a complete recovery. Might I suggest that we all do the same?
