FBI Agents Seize Kent Marijuana Crop!

Kent, Ohio A ``sophisticated farm setup'' with a crop of Marijuana in the basement of a West Main Street home was seized yesterday by FBI agents, who also arrested two men believed to be part of a large-scale drug ring.
Two men arrested believed to be part of drug ringFBI agents conducted searches of two Kent homes and one Akron residence yesterday, according to a news release. Michael T. Lovaty Jr. was arrested at the home at 976 W. Main St., where agents found the basement farm.Paul G. Graupmann, acting supervisor at the FBI's Akron office, said the entire basement was filled with marijuana plants in various stages of growth. He did not have an exact count on the number of plants found.Another search at 2223 Cambridge Court, Akron, resulted in the arrest of Frank T. Nichols, who agents believe is in a drug ring with Lovaty. Both men were charged with violation of the federal drug trafficking conspiracy statute and made initial court appearances before U.S. Magistrate James S. Gallas.Graupmann could not say how long the FBI had been investigating activity at either residence. No arrests were made during a search of a third home at 614 N. Mantua St. in Kent.The searches were done with assistance from the Akron and Kent police departments and the Drug Enforcement Administration; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; Immigration and Naturalization Service; and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division.
