MEDINA - The Medina mother who was arrested last week because her 14-year-old daughter turned over a crack pipe to a school guidance counselor has been indicted on charges accusing her of making crack cocaine in her apartment.
Linda Sue Martin, 40, also is charged with possessing crack cocaine and permitting drug abuse.The indictment alleges Martin, who was being held yesterday in Medina County Jail, used her apartment on W. Union St. to manufacture crack cocaine and to let others smoke the drug. Police arrested her Feb. 22.The illegal manufacture of crack cocaine is a second-degree felony that carries maximum penalties of eight years in prison and a fine of $15,000. Possession of crack cocaine is a felony punishable by a year in prison.Martin's daughter, a student at Claggett Middle School in Medina, gave a crack pipe to a school counselor on Feb. 22. The girl said it was her mother's and asked for help. She said her mother's addiction was ruining their lives, police said.The girl now lives with her father in Cleveland, police said.Police said they were familiar with Martin, whose boyfriend, Kenneth Coats, was indicted twice last year on charges of possessing crack cocaine. Police said they acted swiftly last week because they believed the child might be in danger.A search warrant affidavit alleged the girl had seen crack made in her mother's kitchen and had witnessed drug sales in the apartment.
