Posted by FoM on February 27, 1999 at 11:48:20 PT WADSWORTH - Police have arrested 13 people over the last two days in an investigation into drug sales to Wadsworth High School students. Eight adults and five Wadsworth High students were arrested in a drug sweep that began Thursday night and continued Friday.Lt. David Singleton said the investigation began last October after police began receiving information about a drug ring that was selling crack and marijuana to students. He said officers logged hundreds of hours of overtime in the investigation. Sgt. Mark Anderson said the department had spent about $6,000 on drug purchases from some of the people accused in the case.Singleton said he hoped the arrests would reduce drug dealing in the city. "We want to make a big dent in it," he said.Yesterday, police conducted a drug sweep of Wadsworth High and Wadsworth Jr. High but found no drugs. Six students, one of them an adult, were arrested at the high school for offenses uncovered during the five-month investigation.Singleton said they did not find drug sales in the schools, but adults were supplying drugs to juveniles who were selling them near school buildings. The two people accused as ringleaders of the drug operation had ties to the murder case of Roxanna Wade, who was stabbed to death April 11.Amy R. Ryneer, 20, and Errol E. Saddler Jr., 35, who lived in the same Akron house, were each charged with three counts of trafficking in crack, two counts of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and two counts of conspiracy to engage in a pattern of corrupt activity.Ryneer was freed after posting a $50,000 bond. Saddler was being held yesterday because he could not post a $400,000 bond.Secret indictments allege that the two sold an "eight ball" - an eighth of an ounce of crack - to Wade or a man named Rudy Casey on April 10 and April 11. Wade's body was found in a Wadsworth home April 11.Larry S. Griner, 38, of Wadsworth pleaded guilty to Wade's murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
