James Richardson, 40, of Cleveland, pleaded guilty in December to a drug conspiracy charge and admitted protecting what turned out to be a phony cocaine deal staged by undercover FBI agents in 1997.The sting operation became public in January 1998 when agents arrested 44 current and former Cuyahoga County jail guards and area police officers who also were paid to protect drug deals. Other people who had posed as law officers to earn money protecting drug deals also were arrested.Richardson, who was sentenced yesterday by Senior U.S. District Judge Ann Aldrich, was not arrested until last September because FBI agents initially had been unable to identify him from secretly recorded videotapes.
