cannabisnews.com: California Driver Sues Government Over Drugs! California Driver Sues Government Over Drugs! Posted by FoM on February 04, 1999 at 05:46:05 PT SAN DIEGO, Calif Here is a tip about purchasing a used truck in southern California: Don't purchase one previously owned by a drug dealer who hid six pounds of methamphetamine in the gas tank. David Ibrahim did just that and was arrested when a mechanic found the illegal drugs stashed in the truck's gas tank. Apparently the drugs were sealed in the tank when Ibrahim bought the truck at auction and the seal broke after he drove it for about a year. On Wednesday, Ibrahim filed a $125,000 damage suit against several government agencies saying not only was he falsely imprisoned for a week and depressed by the experience, but that authorities should have known about the drugs in the gas tank. Why? Because the Drug Enforcement Administration had impounded and searched the Dodge Ram truck before turning it over to the San Diego County for auction. Charges against Ibrahim, who works for a brokerage house, were eventually dropped, but not before he spent a week in jail waiting for his relatives to post bail. Mark Waggoner, an assistant city attorney in Escondido, Calif., defended the actions of the law enforcement officers in the case saying they were only doing their job. But Ibrahim's lawyer disagrees. "He's charging that if the agencies that sold him the truck acted properly, he would never have been charged with the crime," lawyer Benjamin Pavone said. "It's caused him all kinds of problems." Least of which was another charge. After the search of the truck, police obtained a warrant and found 93 grams of methamphetamine in Ibrahim's home.
