Posted by FoM on February 03, 1999 at 08:07:49 PT ROANOKE Two teen-agers who had injected Heroin swallowed some of the drug just after a police officer pulled them over Monday night when he saw their car weaving on Texas 114, police said yesterday. The driver, a 17-year-old from Trophy Club, was in good condition yesterday at Baylor Medical Center at Grapevine, police said. His 18-year-old passenger, a Colleyville resident, was released from the same hospital about noon.As of late yesterday, police said they had not determined where the teens got the heroin.Syringes were found in the teens' clothing, but no other drugs or drug paraphernalia were found in the car, Roanoke Police Chief Rod Davis said."It went from a routine traffic stop to a medical call," Davis said. "After they told the officer what they had done, the main concern was for their safety."The officer called for an ambulance to take the teens to Baylor Medical Center at Grapevine. The teens' parents were called Monday night, and they arrived later at the hospital, police said. The incident occurred about 8 p.m. Monday when a Roanoke police officer who was returning from Southlake with a prisoner saw a car weaving on Texas 114 in Trophy Club, police said. The officer pursued the car to the 500 block of Main Street in Roanoke before he was able to stop the vehicle, Davis said."When the officer walked up to the car, the driver reached for his shirt pocket," Davis said. "The officer asked him if he had a weapon, and the driver said he had a pocketknife. That's when he told the officer he had injected heroin and that he had also just swallowed some."The passenger told the officer that he had injected the drug and had swallowed a paper that contained heroin, Davis said. The teens each swallowed about one-quarter gram of black tar heroin before the officer walked to their car, Davis said. Police had not determined how much heroin the teens injected, he said."They apparently injected the heroin just before the driver got into the car and got onto the highway," Davis said.Details about where the teens had been and where they were going were unavailable, police said. The Trophy Club teen could face a charge of driving under the influence and both teens could be charged with possession of a controlled substance/ heroin, Davis said.Neither teen had been arrested as of late yesterday, but arrest warrants are expected to be issued in the next few days, Davis said.
