Dear Friends, This is our first internet fund raiser. Thank you for stopping by. NORML at VPI & SU stands for the official student chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws at Virginia Polytechnic and State University.
Dating back to 1972 as "Virginians for the Study of Marijuana Laws" {VSML} we have a long and rich history of activism. Some of our recent projects have included: Ten dedicated chapter members travelled to DC to work the polls with ACT-UP DC and the MPP on I-59. We transported a bus load of patients from around the country to PA for their federal medmj Class action hearing and took a picture by the bell [look for our picture in Cannabis Culture magazine, previously known as Cannabis Canada magazine]. We have distributed over 14,000 [ that's thousand] "Common sense for drug policy" newspapers with the help of Common Sense for Drug Policy in Northern Virginia. We and our issues have been featured in 7 newspaper articles. We were featured in interviews at the National Academy of Science, Institute of Medicine {bombshell} medical marijuana study press conference and a fellow we helped transport to the hearing was featured in the final report. We've distributed literature to world leaders at the United Nations drug summit at the UN in NYC. We have run at least 15 public information tables {where we distribute a large amount of literature to the general public} including an info table at the last Cannabis Cup where we had info from over 20 reform org's and a Human Rights and the drug war display www.hr95.org. We have been on numerous TV and Radio shows representing our cause. We've attended meetings at the State house and support Virginians Against Drug Violence during the Virginia legislative session.. We are part of a massive national student movement towards HEA reform and have been featured three times in the last year on the front page of the Collegiate times news paper. We had our president recognized and speak at the last national NORML conference. We were part of a very successful civil disobedience at the Capitol with the MPP. We were quoted in High Times. We stood down the infamous Professor Nahas on his own turf {also with the MPP} and a whole lot more all in the last year! What can we do with your help? Help us do it all again this coming year! With your help we will be able to help out in Florida on their medical marijuana initiative. With your help we can continue to support Virginians Against Drug Violence during the upcoming legislative session. With your help we can continue to supply copies of cutting edge information as it becomes available to anyone who expresses enough interest to stop at one of our [15 or so] information tables we hold each year. With your help we can continue to supply important texts to key individuals at high levels in academia and Virginia society for free. And we have lots of other projects on the drawing board here in Virginia [and nationally]. Please e-mail us to find out more or how you can become involved. What we have is talented imaginative young people with a desire to make a better society for their families and themselves, what we don't have is much money, please help us out and bid lively.
