Sanders Pledges Legal Marijuana In All 50 States

USA -- With just two days to go before the Iowa caucus, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is pledging to immediately legalize marijuana in all 50 states if he is elected to the White House.“We will end the destructive war on drugs,” the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate said at rally in Cedar Rapids. “On my first day in office through executive order we will legalize marijuana in every state in this country.” Sanders emphasized it would be important for his administration to end cannabis prohibition in a way that helps communities harmed by the drug war’s enforcement.
“We will move forward to expunge the records of those arrested for possession of marijuana,” he said. “And we will make certain that the legalized marijuana industry is not controlled by a handful of corporations but that those people in the African-American community, the Latino community, the Native American community—those people who have suffered the most will get help in order to make money through a legalized marijuana industry.”Watch Sanders pledge to legalize marijuana in all 50 states on his first day in office: http://youtu.be/IMjPL-sGLkMIt’s far from clear that Sanders as president would actually be able to accomplish unilateral federal legalization of marijuana, let alone end prohibition in every state or get it done just hours after he is sworn in.The executive branch does have authority under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) to reclassify cannabis without further action from Congress, but the details of the process involve steps by the attorney general and the health and human services secretary—Sanders designees unlikely to be installed on his “first day.” Current law also means that international drug treaties could complicate moves by an administration to deschedule marijuana from the CSA entirely. And, when it comes to enacting legalization in every state, there’s not much a president can do to force the repeal of local criminalization laws.Sanders also mentioned his intention to swiftly legalize marijuana and take other executive actions at an earlier campaign stop on Saturday afternoon, joking that he would tell his wife on inauguration day that “I’ll be home late, my dear.”Earlier this week, The Washington Post reported that top Sanders campaign aides included federal legalization of cannabis in a list of possible executive orders to take place in early 2021 should he win the presidency. In 2015, during his last campaign for the White House, Sanders filed the Senate’s first-ever marijuana descheduling legislation and became the first major presidential candidate to back legalization. While in 2020 Sanders has issued one of the boldest cannabis-focused plans in the field—previously pledging to accomplish federal legalization within 100 days—he hasn’t gone as far as some rival candidates have when it comes to ending the criminalization of other drugs. While the senator does often note that he supports broadly “ending the war on drugs,” he has said he’s “not there yet” when pressed about formally decriminalizing other substances.Former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, on the other hand, included decriminalizing possession of all drugs in his racial justice and mental health plans. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), meanwhile, said this month that she supports legalizing and regulating currently illicit drugs.Entrepreneurs Andrew Yang and Tom Steyer, also presidential contenders, back decriminalizing opioids as a harm reduction measure. Yang also says he would legalize therapeutic use of psilocybin mushrooms for military veterans.* With just two days to go before the Iowa caucus, Sen. Hatred? Unrighteous anger?
Where are my Children of Peace? Where are the peacemakers, the comforters, the encouragers? Is it possible to have opinions anymore, even among the few, that do not involve hatred, insults, accusations, and threats? We, of all people, should be able to be peacemakers in the midst of turbulence. We are very experienced. Truth and reason were our forte. I have always thought that was what we were all about. We did an amazingly good job of being part of a great accomplishment with an admirable amount of self control. Yes, we ranted, railed, and spoke out about what we believed to be intolerable injustice and inhumanity, and we did something to make our earth a less fearful and dangerous place is how I see it. We did it gracefully. We can do politics and have political opinions gracefully, too. Can't we?

Have faith in young voters.
The kids are alright. My feeling is their complacent at this point but when it comes to the Nov election, they will be out with high percentages. The feeling I get on the ground is that the need to rid Earth from Trump's reach is up there with anything of known importance. The winner of the election was not decided last week.We gotta Dump that Trump.
!!!
sung to the tune of:"Dump That Chump" Little Charlie & The Nightcatshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ABh3ZW39vk I'd be happy if this became a revival song toward the movement toDUMP THAT TRUMP.Cause We Gotta Dump That Trump.ALL together now...

I don't know why they didn't get out to vote. It is their future and not mine. I know when they killed Bobby Kennedy that was the straw that broke the camels back for me and I didn't think of voting until I voted for John Kerry years ago. I saw us lose JFK and MLK and I believed they would kill anyone I believed in so that ended me even thinking about voting. I had a little hope with JFK's son John then he died in a plane crash. I am so grateful we had Obama for 8 years and that restored my lost faith at least until we got Trump.

Biden Better than Trump?
Maybe slightly, but controlled by the same big money interests whose greed is destroying our living space, livelihoods and our God-given food supply. The young people know. They need to stop contemplating suicide and bring their friends and families to the polls. May God bless them with a better future than they may believe is possible!

I am glad you voted. It looks like Biden is going to win and I am very sad about it. If Biden wasn't so backward about marijuana legalization I wouldn't be so concerned. But Biden would be better then Trump.

Last I Heard 3 Primary & Caucus Wins for Bernie
The commentators and politicians are starting to take Bernie seriously talking about his solid youth support and Latinos joining the team. They are also making comparisons and contrasts to another polarizing figure Donald Trump and how the people decided who they wanted despite the reservations of the party politic.

Eagles concert
There was a recent article my local newspaper by a writer and Eagles fan who went to an Eagles 50th anniversary concert at Madison Square Gardens. (I know, that 50 years went by pretty fast didn’t it?) Anyway, it was a sellout crowd, and get this, when the band started playing the crowd started lighting up just like in the old days. He said it was like the early 70’s again. The vibes were wonderful. He was blown away. Come on social use.

I agree. The main problem is big factory cannabis farms undermining what the Creator gave us with GMO manipulations, potency restrictions and the FDA bias toward chemical regulations. Let it grow and prosper in the sun as the Creator designed it to do.

I sure wish we had another Obama running but he was so unique and can't be duplicated. I like Mayor Pete but Bernie is the one I want to win. I think Bernie could debate Trump very well. As long as I live I will never understand how we could have someone like Trump as president. People that worship Trump blow my mind.

Swarming Is Hurting Bernie
You people, who claim to be Bernie's supporters and may have wandered onto this site out of curiosity, need to get a grip. Violent speech and threats against other candidates and their supporters is counter-productive. If you truly support Bernie, keep your powder dry and your words civil. You are undermining the candidate you claim to support by swarming. What is accomplished by using threatening words and actions to protest threatening words and actions of the current Federal government? This not a video game nor an action hero movie. This is politics, and swarming is driving away voters!

Add my Best Wishes for Bernie Tonight
I don't understand this middle of the road obsession of some Democrats. Do they really just want another sellout to big business acting like a King? A putative Democrat supporting the same destructive policies as the Republicans?
