Georgia -- A Georgia state senator has introduced two pieces of legislation Monday that would legalize both medical and recreational marijuana in the state. SB 6 would allow those at least 21-years-old to purchase a “limited” amount of marijuana and taxes and fees from the sale would be split equally between education and transportation infrastructure.SB 7 would authorize marijuana for medical use for those with a “debilitating medical condition,” which includes but isn’t limited to cancer, glaucoma, HIV, Alzheimer’s disease, and any “chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition.”
“Few would disagree that physicians need every good tool in their medical toolbox to provide the best healthcare possible to their patients,” Sen. Curt Thompson (D), the bills’ sponsor, said in a statement. “During the 2015 legislative session, we will have the opportunity to provide our doctors with an additional tool by legalizing marijuana for medical use.”According to a poll conducted for WSB-TV in Atlanta of 750 registered voters by Landmark/RosettaStone, 54 percent of respondents support medical marijuana, and 30 percent are opposed. The remaining 16 percent are undecided.A bill that would have legalized cannabis oil for medical use sponsored by Rep. Allen Peake (R) failed to pass the legislature in March.Reporter for The Washington Post. Georgia!
Way to go Georgia - pass this law, somehow, and you're gonna see property values go WAYY up and an influx of neighbors from all around you moving in and regenerating your economy more than you can imagine. How cool would it be that Georgia leads the way in the south to sanity and common sense in the cannabis issue. I wouldn't bet much that it will actually pass but having the issue raised so clearly and with such a logical, science-informed bill from the heart of the south is surprising and encouraging. If Georgia passes this law I will look at Savannah as a possible retirement city where citizens are free to grow the plant that guarantees a relaxing, sane, healthy life. More power to you Georgia - throw a monkey wrench into the common perception of the south as backward and out of touch!
