(AP) - An 11-year-old boy told a relative that his father and step mother were growing marijuana at home. The couple now face multiple drug charges. Michael and Kathrine Callaway were arrested Tuesday, and charged with possession, cultivation of cannabis and possession with intent to distribute, all felonies. ``The child told his grandmother one day last week, and actually got a bag of pot out of the dad's house and showed it to his grandmother,'' said Mary Justino, Clay County Sheriff's spokeswoman. ``The grandmother called his real mother and she called the Sheriff's Office.'' Officers seized 230 marijuana plants - some up to 6 feet tall - from the couple's home and a building on the property, said Justino. The boy said he told on his father because a drug abuse awareness class at school taught students to report any criminal activity, said Justino. The boy is now living with his birth mother. [ Post Comment ] Comment #3 posted by observer on September 02, 1999 at 10:01:16 PT right out of Orwell's 1984 Yes, this is the goal of DARE: an informant network for the secret police, similar to what the STASI had set up in East Germany, for example. Children are heroes of the state and held up in the state's propaganda as models to be emulated. Poor little guy has bought himself a ticket to a foster home (the police state approves) and prison for his parents(the police state cheers). No doubt this is best for the child and his folks, both. The goal? To control and to punish those who question the political dictates of the state. This is the Ministry of Love in action. It really makes me mad the destruction of families by this drug war. I am so glad I don't have a child in our school systems today. What has happened to the sanctity of the family unit?Peace, FoM!
