On Sept. 7, the California Beer & Beverage Distributors gave $10,000 to a committee opposing Proposition 19, the measure that would change state law to legalize pot and allow it to be taxed and regulated. The California Police Chiefs Association has given the most to the Proposition 19 opposition with a contribution of $30,000, according to Cal-Access, a website operated by the secretary of state’s office. Rhonda Stevenson, the California Beer & Beverage Distributors political action committee’s coordinator, was out of the office on Wednesday.Nobody else from the group was available to comment.“Unless the beer distributors in California have suddenly developed a philosophical opposition to the use of intoxicating substances, the motivation behind this contribution is clear,” Steve Fox, director of government relations for the Marijuana Policy Project, said in statement. “Plain and simple, the alcohol industry is trying to kill the competition. Their mission is to drive people to drink.”North state beer and beverage distributors reached for comment on Wednesday were not aware of the $10,000 contribution made by their trade group. Nor did they have an opinion on Proposition 19 or how its passage would affect the liquor industry.“We pay a small yearly membership, so we are a member; but we don’t really have a say or input on anything like that,” Mt. Shasta Bottling & Distributing General Manger Emerson Bryan said.David Jensen, president of Redding Distributing Co., said his business had not been solicited for funds by the California Beer & Beverage Distributors to help fight Proposition 19.“That might have come out of their PAC (political action committee),” Jensen said of the $10,000 contribution.Area liquor stores reached Wednesday also said they had not heard about the beverage group’s effort to defeat Proposition 19.Source: Redding Record Searchlight (CA)Author: David Benda, Record Searchlight Published: September 15, 2010Copyright: 2010 Record Searchlight - The E.W. [ Post Comment ] Comment #9 posted by Hope on September 16, 2010 at 19:13:57 PT Actually "Wolf's Grin" is too scary for me! I'll let Kap do that.I'm just smiling... sharing a significant glance with you all.Smiling.Although I really would have rather "No" didn't have more money. I don't think they'll have trouble with the prohibs ponying up, though. There's little doubt they could build a massive money bomb. A massive one. Especially those that make their livelihood off it and love it... the war... that "No" will appeal to. Oh man. Talk about making phone calls and writing letters. If money can buy these things. We've got to hope that maybe truth will go farther on the cash "Yes" gets than scaremongering will on the donations that "No" is quite likely to collect. Maybe scaremongering costs a lot more to spread than the truth. We can hope so. [ Post Comment ] Comment #8 posted by Hope on September 16, 2010 at 18:59:43 PT Did you'll see what they did with their "Money Bomb" campaign? The campaign for "Yes" had a one day "Money Bomb" they called it.It was great. People all over donated small amounts. Five dollars is what they asked for. They collected or got pledges for over sixty thousand dollars in one day. It was delightful to watch.Of course, "No" on the prop will probably do their own money bomb. They could get a lot of money. Some people like that one lady on the donor to No that has a history of donating huge amounts to Republicans. She's got cash to waste... or donate... obviously and she obviously likes donating to Republicans and Republican causes from looking at her public record. She's obviously very party oriented. Republican Party oriented.I wonder if there are tax benefits for these distributors to contribute to the No campaign?Hmmmm. They need "Eroding". Big time.We need a newer, better, attitude. You know. Like the attitude when we stopped persecuting and killing witches and such in this country. We got the attitude that it was really wrong to own another person as a chattel or a slave. And we stopped hanging black people for being black and and we started thinking perhaps women were people enough to be able to vote in this country. A new and better attitude, sir, is what we desperately need... and the new laws to go with it.As quickly as possible. Should clear up any doubt about Obama and cannabis policy. His evil drug czar can lie with the best of them! He says cannabis is only a "small piece" of the Mexican cartels - I guess 60 or 70% is now "small"?http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20016614-503544.html?tag=mncol;lst;3It's amazing how this "article" on CBS is 100% straight govt. propaganda. I have to say it's be interesting, in a sick sort of way, to have grown up in the 70's with the Soviet Union and to watch our government and society slowly morph into the tyranny of the old Soviets.CBS, ABC, and Fox are now just about equal to the old Soviet TASS press agency.I saw a huge piece of graffiti art here yesterday. It was very simple and painted on the side of a highway overpass. It said "Obama = Bush" [ Post Comment ] Comment #1 posted by HempWorld on September 16, 2010 at 10:43:02 PT However, Cannabis is not poison, it is non-toxic, safer than water!Go figure!
