Another Dance Around Marijuana

Oregon -- Let the charades begin: Another "medical marijuana" measure is coming to the fall ballot.Of course, the advocates insist that the sprawling legalized network of marijuana dispensaries envisioned by Initiative 28 is all about providing compassionate and convenient "medicine" to Oregonians who suffer from such things as glaucoma, nausea from cancer treatment and the wasting associated with HIV/AIDs.
Never mind that of the 36,380 Oregon "patients" who now hold cards that protect them from state prosecution for smoking marijuana, 534 reported suffering from glaucoma, while 32,614 checked the box for "severe pain" as one of their qualifying medical conditions. Anyone over the age of 18 with a doctor's note that says they can benefit from smoking marijuana can apply to the Oregon Health Division for a card. We're not yet prepared to take a position on this or any other ballot measure on the fall ballot. Yes, there may be a compelling case to be made for giving Oregonians with legitimate medical needs more convenient access to marijuana. However, the whole wink-and-nod farce that has characterized the politics of medical marijuana has become downright offensive. Snot rag!
The Oregonian is a notorious snot rag. They strongly supported the militant war on cannabis under Reagan, Clinton and the Bush's.They supported Bush's wars. They are out of step with most Oregonians. This is on e of the most cowardly and disingenuous articles I have ever wasted my time reading. I want my fifteen minutes back!

Jim Crow 2010
Why the obsession with medical cannabis? What's so hard to understand?30 thousand people went to their board-certified, DEA-licensed physician and said "cannabis helps me with medical problem X" and got a written recommendation.MILLIONS of people went to the doctor and said "I want to feel more happy, Prozac please" and got a written prescription. 6 million American parents got Prozac for their children, to drug their little developing minds. Millions more children drugged by their parents and doctors on Ritalin, Zoloft, Adderrall, etcBut only the cannabis-using patients are part of a "charade". This newspaper is lusting for more police beat-down of the poor and minorities. That's what this is all about, it has nothing to do with medicine or sick people.

Oregonian
The Oregonian has quite the passive aggressive style. "We're not yet prepared to take a position on this.....""Of course, the advocates insist that the sprawling legalized network of marijuana dispensaries.....""Never mind that of the 36,380 Oregon "patients" who now hold cards that protect them from state prosecution for smoking marijuana, 534 reported suffering from glaucoma, while 32,614 checked the box for "severe pain" as one of their qualifying medical conditions."Oregonian, we understand your "neutral" position perfectly. You just happen to think sever pain is not legitimate and that such "patients", as you felt compelled to list in quotations to further indicate your animosity, are not "real" patients.

Boy they're brave over there at The Oregonian. Not a single one of them willing to put their name on this piece of dung. "The Oregonian Editorial Board", HA!

What a load of lies from "The Oregonian".
We're not yet prepared to take a position on this or any other ballot measure on the fall ballot. Yes, there may be a compelling case to be made for giving Oregonians with legitimate medical needs more convenient access to marijuana. However, the whole wink-and-nod farce that has characterized the politics of medical marijuana has become downright offensive.Oh, yeah? You are liars and your words prove it.Let the charades begin: Another "medical marijuana" measure is coming to the fall ballot. And ..."medicine"And ..."patients"You disingenuous fools. Your clever use of the word 'charade' as the third word in your editorial screams loudly that you actually have taken a position on this and that position is to belittle and ridicule the entire issue.Liars!Your clever use of quotation marks around medical marijuana, medicine and patients is meant to portray these things as something not real, just phony entities in this subterfuge we've concocted.Liars!Anybody who supports this kind of outright dishonest tripe masquerading as a "thoughtful," "intelligent" and "insightful" "editorial" from a "newspaper" in a MMJ state should have a few bundles of "The Oregonian" dropped on their toes to try and wake them the hell up.The Reverend Bud Green
