Proposed State MMJ Law is a Recipe for Disaster

Albany, N.Y. -- Coming soon to a neighborhood near you: Out-of-control marijuana sales authorized by state lawmakers - key among them Assemblyman Richard Gottfried and state Sen. Tom Duane. These two have engineered a supposed medical marijuana law that would, in fact, be a license for legalized pot-dealing, potentially in thousands of storefronts across the city.
Under their bill, even podiatrists and midwives could prescribe dope to practically any patient with virtually any health complaint - who would then be able to stop by the local storefront joint joint without fear of arrest. The evils of this scheme are blatantly obvious from the nightmare that unfolded in Los Angeles after passage of California's medical marijuana law in 1996.That city now has upward of 700 pot shops - outnumbering even Starbucks locations. The "patients" are overwhelmingly males ranging from their teens to late 20s - not exactly the seriously ill demographic. And testing has shown that practically all of the dope originated with violent Mexican gangs and often is laced with pesticides."I think about the Mexican drug cartels hooting all the way to the bank as we silly Americans bankroll them," says assistant Los Angeles city attorney Jane Usher.Told of the terms that Duane and Gottfried have written into their bill, Usher said:"I'm as concerned for your residents as I am for ours about the implications of this insufficiently regulated model." This editorial
Whoever wrote it is freaked out. Obviously. From their point of view, they feel they have a very good reason to feel the way they do.They have a right to feel the way they feel about just about whatever... but when they start killing people and imprisoning people in the name of the state, over a plant... an herb... there needs to be a better reason for that than their personally being freaked out.

Which medicine (aka drug) ...
is not directly responsible for a single death?"These two have engineered a supposed medical marijuana law that would, in fact, be a license for legalized pot-dealing, potentially in thousands of storefronts across the city."And this is different how from the legal alcohol-dealing bars, taverns, saloons, and restaurants across rhe city, ... from the legal tobacco-dealing gas stations and convenience stores across the city, ... and from the legal drug-dealing pharmacies across the city?Safer. Guess which one!

Show me the bodies?
This guy makes stuff up all day long. Supposes this, suspects that?Where is the crime that supposedly goes with this benign activity?Show me the bodies? This guy is a spouter. He is a spouter and a blurter because he spouts without facts and he blurts out his supposed beliefs.Spouters and blurters do not deserve to have a public forum because they tend to be irresponsible in what they want to blurt and spout. This guy is a relic, like the crank for an old model T Ford. He is trying to start up an old tin can nobody wants to drive anymore.-Idiot boy!

They will get even sillier as we gain ground
Really, the ignorance of this editorial is astounding. For one thing, no self-respecting dispensary would offer Mex ditchweed. Even the stuff grown in national parks by Mex trespassers is scheisse. Dispensaries know that if they were to try passing that garbage off as USA homegrown, organic hydro they'd be tarred-and-feathered. If only because of the health concerns their clients have about the nasty crap the Mex trespassers use to grow it with, the same nasty crap the prohibs point to as an environmental hazard and pee-and-moan about.Richard Cowan said long ago that part of the reason for the continued existence of prohibition is 'bad journalism' . Here's a perfect example.

Oregon MMJ News Article From KVAL.com
Oregon Officially Recognizes Marijuana for Medical Value***By Elissa Harrington, KVAL NewsEugene, Oregon -- The Oregon Board of Pharmacy voted to change marijuana from what's known as a "Schedule I controlled substance" to a "Schedule II."How will this affect pot in Oregon? And what does this mean?"A schedule I drug means that it has no medicinal value that is recognized," said Lane County Chief Deputy District Attorney Patty Perlow. "A schedule II drug has recognized medicinal value but a high risk of abuse."There are five classifications of controlled substances throughout the United States, Schedule I being the most dangerous and schedule V the least. Some Schedule I drugs include LSD, heroin and psychedelic mushrooms. These have a "high abuse potential and no acceptable medical use in the United States," according to the State Board of Pharmacy.Other Schedule II drugs include methamphetamine, oxycodone and cocaine. The board describes these as "high abuse potential with severe psychological or physical dependence liability.” But they are accepted for medical use in the U.S. by prescription."Cocaine is a drug that's abused a great deal," Perlow said, "but it's also used by plastic surgeons in surgery."This reclassification, however, does not change the legality of the drug or the sentencing if you're caught with it."Changing it from Schedule I to Schedule II will not change the penalties," said Perlow. "It's more symbolic."Symbolic for people like Jim Greig, a medical marijuana patient and a spearhead for Initiative 28 -- which would legalize medical marijuana dispensaries in the state."It's been stigmatized since the 30s and it's about time that people recognize it's medical value," he said. But a Schedule II classification isn't what Greig was hoping for. He believes marijuana is not addictive, and says the Board of Pharmacy did not do enough scientific research.Greig says the Drug Policy Forum of Oregon is planning an appeal, hoping to reclassify marijuana as an even less serious controlled substance. He wants cannabis to fall under Schedule V. "That's where it properly would be placed," he says. "It's the safest herb known to man."Less than an ounce of marijuana already falls into Schedule V.Federal law still classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug, but Perlow said Oregon follows state law. KVAL News asked Perlow if Oregon being the first state in the nation to classify marijuana as anything less than a Schedule I drug is a big deal."This is a big deal for the proponents of the medical use of marijuana," she says. "But for the criminal involvement with marijuana, there will be no effect."Copyright: 2010 Fisher Communications, Inc.URL: http://www.kval.com/news/local/96612724.html

Prohibition Supports Mexican Cartels, NOT Users!!!
--"I think about the Mexican drug cartels hooting all the way to the bank as we silly Americans bankroll them," says assistant Los Angeles city attorney Jane Usher.--Hey, isn’t that one of the big reasons to end Prohibition? Yes, U.S. Prohibition is indeed bankrolling the Mexican Cartels.
According to the U.S. Government, Prohibition of Cannabis alone supplies 60% to 70% of the Mexican Drug Cartels income. Jane Usher intends to keep supplying the Mexican Cartels with 60-70% of their income. Jane Usher – Mexican Cartel Supporter! What a stupid article! Shame on the New York Daily News for printing such slanted, unsubstantiated garbage – “Fear Mongering” at its worst!Legalize Cannabis Now!

Conflicting statements
"And testing has shown that practically all of the dope originated with violent Mexican gangs and often is laced with pesticides".Where do they get that from? First, these prohibitionist lowlifes complain that too much Marijuana is grown in California, on National parkland, inviting theives. Then, they change it to "pot is supplied by Mexican cartels", and not grown here.So...which is it? Why don't they be honest and admit that they just don't like the idea of people smoking herb? Oh, I forgot...honesty from a politician?!!! Ridiculous.
