Those recommendations will go to the department director for forwarding to the State Board of Health. The bills create extensive licensing requirements on medical marijuana dispensaries, regulate doctors who recommend marijuana and ban wholesale growing operations.The 11-member committee will consist of the director of the state's Medical Marijuana Registry, the state's chief medical officer and nine members of the public who will be chosen to represent a patient holding a valid medical marijuana card, a primary caregiver registered with the state, an owner/operator of a medical marijuana center as defined under the new law, a physician with an unrestricted Colorado medical license who recommends marijuana to his or her patients, a licensed health care worker who specializes in addiction medicine, a licensed health care worker who specializes in chronic pain management, a licensed health care worker who specializes in oncology and cancer care, a representative of the law enforcement community and a district attorney or prosecutor. Participation on the committee will require meeting at least once a month over the next year and a willingness to work toward consensus.
