Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Jared Polis on Thursday quizzed Attorney General Eric Holder about federal enforcement of marijuana laws in states such as Colorado, which have approved it for medical use and are seeing a growing number of dispensaries. In his first appearance as a new member of the House Judiciary Committee, the Boulder Democrat, who recently held a "coffee with your congressman" event at a coffee shop adjoining a dispensary in Nederland, quizzed Holder about comments from a federal Drug Enforcement Administration agent suggesting the Justice Department was planning to raid dispensaries in Colorado.
Not so, Holder said, citing higher enforcement priorities and pointing to a directive by the deputy attorney general outlining the specific criteria under which the feds would take an interest in shutting down dispensaries operating legally under state law."There are a variety of factors that are contained within the memo . . . that United States attorneys and assistant United States attorneys are supposed to apply, supposed to consider, when trying to make the determination about whether or not federal resources are going to be used to go after somebody who is dealing in marijuana," he said.Polis seemed satisfied with the answer. The way I see it is life is short. Life is not fair. When good times come enjoy them with all your heart. The good times will be what will carry us thru the bad times. Going from happy times to happy times is better then going from bad times to bad times. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer.

I think I am, FoM :)
I make myself laugh and I like to spread it around. We have too many other things in our lives to deal with that aren't funny at all. That doesn't mean we can't have any joy in our lives.Another beautiful dog, FoM. I'm glad you're having fun.The Reverend Bud Green

Push, push!
Early yesterday afternoon, we got a call from Congressman Polis asking for ASA's help. The Congressman let us know that there would be a House Judiciary Committee meeting today where there was a chance to question Attorney General Eric Holder's policy on medical marijuana. Reprehensive, Polis wanted to make sure his question was meaningful, smart and strategic - so he turned to ASA. Our team of lobbyists and legal experts crafted two deliberately worded questions for Polis, and today, at a hearing with the committee that funds the DOJ and controls the DEA, ASA's questions got answered by our country's Attorney General. Eric Holder's answers to our questions on the rescheduling of marijuana and the continued federal prosecution of patients were not new or surprising, but the raising of the questions will create lasting and significant change. You can read a full description here. We let Holder and every congressional member of Congress know that we are paying attention, that we are not going away and that we are going to keep asking these hard questions in public formats until we win. Congressman Polis needed an expert and he asked us, now we're asking you. In order for ASA to keep these issues on the forefront of our nation, we need your support. Your donation today will ensure that ASA will continue to be a resource not just for patients and physicians but, as was proven today, for members of congress. Your past support got us to today's victory; think of what we'll be able to do tomorrow! As always, thank you for your support, Steph Sherer Executive Director PS
After you contribute, make sure to read the blog on our website that gives the details of Holder's answers.
