Santa Cruz, CA -- A state appeals court in Sacramento this week ruled that medical marijuana patients can sue over raids by local law enforcement, but county authorities aren't too worried as local rules spell out when and where such raids are allowed."It's the sheriff's department's policy to protect medical marijuana patients," said Sgt. Mark Yanez with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office. However, he said, when patients break rules or use their medical cards to cover up illegal drug sales, his department still cracks down.
Wednesday's ruling came from the 3rd District Court of Appeals in Sacramento, and addressed a Butte County lawsuit filed after a sheriff's deputy there ordered a member of a medical marijuana collective to destroy three-quarters of the more than 40 plants on his property or be arrested, according to media reports. The man complied, then sued for damages against the county and the deputy. Wednesday's decision gave the man permission to carry his case forward.Medical marijuana is legal under state law but illegal under federal law, although the Obama administration has said it does not plan to file charges against medical marijuana cooperatives.Yanez said he doesn't expect Wednesday's court ruling to affect his department because "when we do an investigation, we do a thorough one." Often, he said, the violators are obvious: "We've had people renting houses for $5,500 a month and they have no job. They're traveling the world and living like rock stars," and using medical marijuana cards as a front to grow marijuana and sell it illegally.Raids are nothing new in Santa Cruz, though, although situations have varied from the most recent one in Butte County.For example, a 2002 raid at the Davenport home of Valerie and Mike Corral, founders of medical marijuana collective Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana, was conducted by federal officers.The Corrals also sued, although the two were released and never charged. A federal judge last year issued an injunction against interfering with the Corrals' marijuana garden and nonprofit collective, and they continue to provide for terminally and chronically ill patients.Last year, Santa Cruz police raided a Pacific Avenue storefront that claimed to be an advocacy group for medical marijuana patients but which officers said was a front for illegally selling pot. I enjoyed it as wellThat Proline has been gone for about 5 yrs. This talk brought back some fine memories of it. I used to take Shadow, the dog I had to put to sleep, out on it. She loved it. Every year on Memorial Day Weekend we used to camp on a nearby island for 3 days, sometimes 4.This talk also brought back the bug you get from these things…similar to riding a bike (motorcycle)…once you get the bug…you never get rid of it... Yep got that one too. Good thing I never got into skydiving…almost though. Two guys I knew while in New Mexico,, almost had me talked into jumping out of a plane with them. I just kept thinking…why jump out of a perfectly good running airplane…

Floor
Depending on the on the floor design you might not be in as much trouble as you think.If the floor is soft it could be just the wood under the carpet is soft from the moisture getting to it from rain & snow when left out side.When the floor is removed then you can get to the foam. If the foam is not waterlogged and still firm you can probably leave it in and replace the floor and carpet.If the floor were fiberglass with wood backing…it would probably be the wood being soft. Some times the foam doest contact the floor depending on the manufacturer. They use the wood to help give the floor its strength. The foam helps connect every thing together strengthens the hull and floor and also provides flotation in case of capsizing or sinking. Problem is when the boat is full of water the flotation in the hull has a tendency to flip over…but hanging on to the bottom of an upside down hull is better than nothing to hang onto at all. Some manufacturers use foam hidden up under the higher parts of the boat for that reason.As far as being safe to use…that would be a hard call to make from here. If the floor were not real soft it would probably be okay to use for the rest of the season. Just don’t do any wave jumping with it. If it is real soft you could end up putting your foot through it while walking on it. But you still have the hull between you and the water. If you decide to use it...keep an eye on the strength of the floor, if it gets worse you know something is up.If you tear it down now…with limited time to work on it…you might not make it back in the water for a while.

I agree. We were towed in this year because when we were testing the motor we got lost and missed getting to the marina for fuel in time before we ran out of gas. We offered them money and they said no just help someone else when they need it. We said we sure will.

Thank you. It goes plenty fast for me and has nice seats. I think if our one friend and Stick took it apart they could figure out how to do it. They redid the motor and it runs like new now. I wonder if we get a pump can we go on the lake a couple more times and start the project in the early fall? If we start tearing it apart now I know we won't get to go on the lake anymore this year. Stick moves slower these days and our friend is a truck driver and away all week. They only have one day a week to do anything really.

Looks like a good strong design…and a lot of boat for being 16 ft. That hull design is perfect for using it in lakes.Starcraft has always had a good reputation as far back as I can remember.It would be worth the effort to replace the floor.Afterward you will have that much more experience with the boat.And when it’s finished, you will know it’s done right, and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself. You might even decide to do a little customizing…like built in storage compartments in the floor…a built in anchor and rope storage…or maybe a built in cooler you can put ice in. That is a nice boat. I'm sorry about the financial problems. We haven't had any income since the beginning of November. The steel industry crashed. Thank goodness for having a credit card after we used up our savings. I know many people are in our situation. I wouldn't want to be young and starting a family in these times.

I don’t think that boat, the 14 footer; will ever be used by me again. Financial situations have come over me. I think this economic condition (calculated and created by the elitist power mongers) is going to finish me off.The offshore boat had to be sold for that reason. I need what little bit I have left to keep paying the utility and food bills.Here are some pictures of a boat just like the one we had. Ours had a 225 hp Evinrude motor, and was red and maroon, where this one has the blue accents, and this one has a 200 hp Yamaha.I’ve always preferred Evinrude motors to Yamaha motors.That motor pushed that boat 48 mph at wide-open throttle…When we got our boat, the dealer was fitting out another boat just like it with a Yamaha motor on it. They took both boats out for a test run…The Evinrude blew the Yamaha away by about 10 mph. The Evinrude used less fuel too. About 10 gallons an hour wide open and about 8 gallons an hour a 2/3 rds throttlehttp://rides.webshots.com/album/537974384ZThMleI really liked that boat, and had some really good times on it with friends and family…but if you are not in the right circles to make enough money, you are not allowed…My membership card to that Proline 230 expired when the moneychangers raised the cost of living.

What an amazing story. I love the water for similar reasons. Troubles don't seem to go along for the ride while you are on the water at least for me and you too I can tell. I hope you can get your boat fixed. I hope we can get our boat fixed. I wave at everyone and they always wave back. Yesterday Stick said why do you wave at everybody? I said the commerical on tv about boating shows people waving so I thought I should. He laughed. No matter how big or small your boat is the people are courteous and will help if there is trouble.

Stormy SeasI love to be out on the water. A long way out…when you are so far off from shore with nothing but sky and water as far as the eye can see…it’s a feeling of freedom…freedom from the everyday crap on shore. When you are out there…nothing on shore matters…now that’s a feeling of freedom…I guess that’s why I like it.Getting stuck out there never bothered me…I always expected and prepared for things like that.But another time with the same boat. I let my self get caught in a squall. Now that one shook me. A squall came up with about 80 mph winds, rain and I’m sure I saw some small hail stones bouncing on the deck. The seas went from less than 2ft. to about 14ft. or more within less than 3 minutes. I had about 4ft. of green water washing in over the bow. The wind blew the hatch off the cabin and about 10 to 20 gallons of water was getting dumped in the cabin every time a wave crashed over. I couldn’t keep the bow into the wind. I fought it for about 15 minutes (seemed like hours) Every time a wave would crash over the bow it would throw the boat side sideways and I would end up broadside with the seas. And that is a dangerous position to be in. The next wave can roll the boat over and capsize it. I kept on the wheel and throttle and kept turning the bow back into the wind, but every wave kept putting me back broadside with the seas, and wasn’t sure how much longer I could keep fighting it without getting capsized. I had 4 other souls on the boat beside myself. I yelled down into the cabin and told everyone to hang on and I was going to turn the boat around if I could get in proper position with the waves and run with the seas. That is a dangerous thing to do too…while turning the boat you expose your self briefly to being broadsided and capsized. My dear departed father was on board and objected…I told him I had no choice; we were about to lose it. I fought about a dozen more waves crashing over the bow, picked the right wave, got my timing right, crashed in to another wave, and gunned the motor full throttle. As the boat was climbing that wall of water and reaching the top I turned the wheel all the way while on top of the wave. When the wave pulled out from under the boat and going into the next one I had the boat turned 180 degrees, and running with the seas and that 80 mph wind. I had about 5 or 6 waves crash in over the stern, but then I was able to keep throttling the motor to compensate. It worked and I was lucky. Didn’t loose the boat and no one was hurt. I felt a large sight of relief… and the feeling of escaping disaster one more time. If anything would have gone wrong, motor stalling, wrong timing hitting the waves…anything…I would have lost the boat and we would have ended up in the water…about 40 miles out. Times like that remind you how precious life is. 4 other people on that boat had their lives in my hands, and I was responsible for them.I got lucky that time…As far as the boat…after experiencing that…I liked that boat…I knew I could trust it…I knew what it could handle…and I knew how to operate it…But now the boat is gone and I miss it. All I have now is a 30 yr old 14 ft runabout with a 45 hp motor that needs a stator, and has a spongy floor, sitting on a trailer with flat tires that hasn’t been used in 5 yrs or more.

When you go out on that lake make sure you have life jackets that are in new or good condition…and get your self a flare gun kit…You will probably never need them…but if you do…you will thank the heavens that they were there.I used to go offshore grouper fishing a lot. That Gulf kills people every year…most of the time it is because people were improperly equipped to handle situations that come up fast and heavy.I had the boat stocked with enough food and water to last about a week even though we were only going out for one day.Smaller spare motor to use if the main motor went down…2 bilge pumps…Flare gun with about 25 shells…2 fire extinguishers…VHF Radio…GPS…Depth Finder…EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) to send emergency signal when it was activated…2 anchors with mass quantities of line. Life jackets…about 2 for every one person onboard…Throw able floatation devices in case someone fell over board. You can’t be over prepared.On several occasions I had to use all that safety equipment except the EPIRB. Never had to activate it.Had a coast guard helicopter over our heads twice. But they really didn’t need to be there but they insisted.One time the main motor had an electrical fire. We put the fire out and were using the smaller engine to get back in…at 2 knots…we were out about 40 miles. It took about 28 hrs plus, to get back in…the coast guard flew over and hovered over our boat and their prop wash from the helicopter blades blew my last pack of cigarettes off the dash board into the water along with my hat getting blown off (I caught the hat in time)…30 minutes later they had a cutter along side and said they would tow us the rest of the way if we wanted, so we let them…we were only about an hour away from shore at that time so it really wasn’t necessary.

Thank you. Our parents bought this new and it was left outside for a couple of years. I am not sure if I feel safe to go back in the water until the boat can be fixed. It's a nice Starcraft double hull with a 55 hp Mercury motor that the guys have running great after many hours of work. We can launch within a couple miles of home. I don't know if this can be tackled this year money wise or energy wise. I wish I could find an old pontoon boat. We would rent one years ago and had lots of people on it and it was always more fun that a regular boat.

Spongy floors on boats.
Yes FoM…it does sound like the moisture has gotten into the foam, and it is quite a chore to fix it.You have to cut the floor out and replace it and pour in new foam. The foam comes in a 2-part mixture.  After the new floor is in you mix the two parts together and pour it in to the space between the floor and the hull. The foam expands and fills the voids and makes the hull super strong. I have also used a bunch of cans of the foam you get in spray cans at the home improvement stores.I’ve repaired the floor on about a half-dozen or more. The foam is tricky, it expands a lot more than what you would think, and it is very messy too, and that foam gets on every thing your hands, hair, clothes, and everything around where you are working. But when it’s all finished…that stuff works well. It’s easily trimmed after it cures.Bilge pump…500 gph minimum…connected to a float switch to turn it on automatically, and also a switch mounted on the dashboard, connected in parallel with the float switch. That way you can override the float switch and manually operate the pump as well.

Thank you. The lake is very deep and it was very scary. I will do what you said. A friend and I were in the front and the water hit us big time. We were soaked. Our floor is really spongy so from what I have been reading the foam has taken on water and it should be replaced. It doesn't seem like an easy job.

Just be sure to put the plug back in before you slow to idle speed…and…you can use an empty bleach bottle, or any plastic bottle with a handle…cut the bottom out…leaving the handle end intact… and use it to bail the water out by hand…as a backup…worked for me…Been there done that…got many worn out T-shirts…but still alive…

I hope everyone had a nice day yesterday. We had another interesting day on the lake. We came close to sinking the boat. The lake had many high speed boats in it and two big waves overtopped our boat. We had  a few inches of water in the boat and it was dropping very low in the water. Luckily we were near one of the marinas and we got it there and they sucked out the water. After that almost major disaster we had a great day! LOL!
