Providence, R.I. -- Rhode Island would be the third state in the nation and the first on the East Coast to allow nonprofit stores to sell marijuana to medical patients under legislation approved Tuesday by state lawmakers. The state Senate voted 30-2 to adopt a measure permitting three stores to sell marijuana to more than 680 patients registered with the state Department of Health. It now heads to Gov. Don Carcieri, who has previously vetoed bills legalizing marijuana for medical use.
Since 2006, Rhode Island patients suffering from conditions including chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, multiple sclerosis or Alzheimer's disease have been able to possess up to 12 marijuana plants and 2.5 ounces of the drug in a usable form. But buying marijuana remains illegal under state law, creating difficulties for patients who tried to obtain the drug."The Rhode Island Statehouse is on the cutting edge of helping people with severe health care problems," said Sen. Rhoda Perry, D-Providence, who sponsored the Senate bill. "Now patients will not be subjecting themselves to any harassment because we will have a well-regulated mechanism that will grow and distribute the marijuana."Twelve other states allow for the medicinal use of marijuana, but Rhode Island would become only the third — after California and New Mexico — to create dispensaries."I think what will happen, assuming that programs work smoothly, is that other states will follow the example," said Bruce Mirken, spokesman for the Marijuana Policy Project, a national advocacy group in Washington. "As a couple of states do it and the sky doesn't fall, we'll see more of them move in that direction."Carcieri spokeswoman Amy Kempe said she could not comment on whether Carcieri would veto the measure, but the governor has larger concerns about weakening controlled substance laws and how to regulate the three "compassion centers."The legislation has passed the House and Senate by veto-proof margins, with more than the 60 percent of lawmakers needed to overturn a veto. The Rhode Island State Police have also voiced opposition to the measure, saying that authorities found California dispensaries to be drug trafficking organizations and fronts for organized crime.George DesRoches, a Cranston native who smokes marijuana for chronic pain and fibromyalgia, said he's been held at gunpoint multiple times when trying to obtain the drug. DesRoches also said he's been robbed three times this year of the marijuana plants he grows.DesRoches said approving dispensaries would help eliminate many of the issues for him and other patients."The number one advantage would be safety for all patients and availability for all patients. It's pretty simple," said DesRoches, who did not report the incidents to police.Former President George W. Bush's administration had targeted California dispensaries, even if they complied with the state's marijuana law. However, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder recently announced that President Barack Obama's administration would not target marijuana dispensers that follow state law.Source: Associated Press (Wire)Published: June 09, 2009 Copyright: 2009 The Associated PressURL: http://drugsense.org/url/VT0RlZn2CannabisNews Medical Marijuana Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/medical.shtml

Hope
It's rainy here today and nothing much is going on so we are listening to some of the archives. I hope you get to check the songs out too. From surfing songs with the Squires to unreleased songs one from Woodstock it has been very good. It's way too expensive to buy but it's nice hearing them at least one time completely. 125 songs.

Since the news is slow I am starting to listen to the Neil Young Archives. I think we can listen one time and then we'd get 30 second snippets. There are 125 songs. Enjoy.http://mog.com/MusicRX/blog/1342684

drug war = police corruption
As in the days of alcohol prohibition, the current prohibition has been equally devastating in terms of police and governmental corruption.Seizure policies are a perfect example of the institutionalized and "accepted" corruption. No trial or conviction necessary. Just pillage the populace with no accountability. It's beyond cops on the take from organized crime and it is now governmental armed forces preying on a peaceful, otherwise law abiding segment of the populace harming no one. It's a corrupt financial predation on citizens under the guise of moral predation. Neither of which is defensible. Then there is the shadowy, make no allusions to any sense of legality, kind of corruption which is also prevalent, more so due to prohibition and the strength it gives to organized crime. History repeats, only worse.A prime example at hyper-level is the Mexican police. The mistake is in believing our forces are above that.

"Fronts for organized crime"
What you say is true, Runruff. There are corrupt police that participate in and are 'Fronts" for organized crime. All over the country. We know this from just the one's that have been caught. I imagine that there are more operating than just the ones that have come to light. If there's one police officer that is corrupt... we should not have any police? I think not. Perhaps keep an eye out for corruption and correct it when neccessary, instead of shutting down every police department in the state because of corruption in a few.

In my county cops are fronts for organized crime!
"The Rhode Island State Police have also voiced opposition to the measure, saying that authorities found California dispensaries to be drug trafficking organizations and fronts for organized crime."Cops lie. My first attorney told me on our first meeting,"cops lie". I saw nine cops take the witness stand and tell entirely different stories each one a lie.First of all, how can selling an herb, a flower, be criminal activity? If California sold joints out of "Toys R Us" so what!Cops are involved in all kinds of little criminal activities from selling stolen property to drugs and extortion. The cops I've meet seem to have some strange sense of entitlement. I say we need a strong honest leader at the top to jerk a knot in their tails!

Flannel Shirts
There's no doubt he can claim setting the "Style"... Flannel shirts, T-Shirts, and old worn, worn jeans. I remember Credence in flannel shirts and all, but no one could do it quite like Mr. Young.Neil had that "Grunge" look perfected a long, long time ago, no doubt."Style". That's funny, too. Just comfy and happy and easy and nothing fancy. Just in case he needed to work on the car or something. Homey. Garagey... Grunge.

new song for Neilwe are sitting on a giant magnet
did anyone happen to be watching dir TV on sun night around nine at night on the discovery ch == something about the center of the planet.the show blue my mind -- showed me how the theory of the spinning hot center is causing rays to be emitted out from all over the earths surface. these rays are from this hot giant spinning magnet, and now
we have created tech to map them.guess what just since the sixties a band starting from the pacific waters near the Andes extending all the way thru Brazil out on a northerly path into the Atlantic ocean maybe a thousand miles or so is loosing rays strength.maybe a early sign of the poles flipping direction --question to all--
does this loss of rays and their ability to shield us from the harsh rays coming from the sun mean we will have to look for crops that will grow under this condition.if so why are we not hearing about this --and launching the new x prize for finding these new old seeds and there uses

That was cute. We don't have any cats in the house but we always seem to have 9 to feed everyday. Some go away and others seem to appear but we never have over 9. We don't have mice anywhere. That's amazing since we live so far out in the country.
