cannabisnews.com: Poll: Employees with MMJ Should Be Protected Poll: Employees with MMJ Should Be Protected Posted by CN Staff on December 01, 2007 at 05:32:06 PT Los Angeles Business from Bizjournals Source: Bizjournals.com USA -- The topic of marijuana, especially when it comes to its medicinal value, is always controversial. The state Supreme Court is considering a case of a man who uses medical marijuana to ease his back pain and was fired from his job after testing positive for the drug. Employers say they could be liable for the actions of employees who use marijuana for medical purposes. Employees with medical marijuana prescriptions say they should be protected from termination. This week's Los Angeles Business poll asked: Should employers have the right to fire employees with prescriptions of medical marijuana? A majority of respondents said "no," here's how the voting broke down: * 72 percent -- No, the state's voters approved marijuana use for medical purposes and employees with prescriptions for the drug should be protected in the workplace * 18 percent -- Yes, marijuana creates a legal problem for employers and a safety risk for customers and fellow workers * 9 percent -- Not sure Here are some comments left by respondents: "Not sure only because we don't have information on what his job duties were. There could be legal and safety issues - but perhaps not. So this ruling, it would seem to me, could only apply in this instance as it relates to the employer's decision to terminate his employment." "I vote no because it is law. However, I want to overturn that law." "Yes, if they are using it at work. It is not supposed to be used in the work environment, because it does affect many things, including decision making abilities and hand-eye coordination, among others. If you are taking such a prescription, the intent is for medical and health restoration or treatment away from the workplace, in a hospital or home environment where healing is taking place. Definitely not in the workplace." "I would not go so far as to let anyone using a Prescription medication do whatever their job entailed. Personal and public safety comes first. If that is not an issue and the employee does his or her job competently and responsibility, it should not be an issue." He's great on getting us out of Iraq, and medical Cannabis legalization, and that is about it.Really Mayan, I love YOU and your posts, but Ron Paul, c'mon!Really!Think about it!Did you hear his answers at the last debate, he's really pretty scary, and I can't let it pass, thus, the unwanted political post at C-news!Dennis Kucinich kicks Ron Pauls' ass period, and you know that, what is up wit chu? Anti-immigrant? We are all immigrants, get over it, I don't believe in borders or nationalism, I don't know if you do either, based on your posts and links, which are the best, I'm surprised at your support of Paul. He seems clueless to the spiritual world Dennis resides in, and if you don't relate to the Spiritual paradigm Dennis speaks of, then you and I need to get together, as I would love to see your chart and explore what makes you tick. Someday we will all meet in person, and I'll do free readings for any C-Newser!From a dairy at DailyKos:Phenry's diary is its own rundown. Here are some highlights that, I believe, will generally disturb my libertarian friends: Paul is anti-abortion (and not just anti-Roe v. Wade), is pro-shielding oil companies from contamination lawsuits, is so anti-immigrant that he wants to repeal birthright citizenship, voted against reauthorizing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, voted for a bill that would require `proof of citizenship' -- producing a birth certificate, passport, or naturalization certification -- at the polls, supports the Defense of Marriage Act (indeed, he cosponsored a bill that would bar federal courts from considering challenges to the federal DMA), does not believe in the separation of church and state (though he does believe in the `separation of school and state'), introduced a bill that would prohibit the federal court system from hearing any equal protection case involving religion or sexuality, refuses to acknowledge that there is genocide in Darfur, hates unions and voted to make it harder to file class-action lawsuits. And that's a selection from one post in a series of four. This does not sound like the set of beliefs of a man whose political philosophy is firmly grounded on a principle of respect for individual liberty.Bottom line for me, Ron Paul opposes abortion rights for women, and that is all I need to know about this guy, except for the fact he is also a Bill Clinton type, as he is a Leo with the Moon in Taurus, just like Billy-boy, who I distrust and was always full of b.s. like 'I didn't inhale', the kind of lie that led to having a lying pres like bush, who lies, and lies and lies, and the media LOVES it, it gives them a free pass to Lie, and lie, and lie some more!http://staffofra.blogspot.com/2007/11/whats-wrong-with-ron-paul .htmlLooking forward to a more detailed defense of him, as he's lost cause, the Republicans only hope outside of Hillary, their REAL candidate, the Dems are so lame they will go along with a Corporatist like her, and I refuse to support the anti-bush or the anti-hillary, just the best person for the job!Mayans links and posts are finally making the headlines, sort of, as well they should, as we have a Nazi-wanna-be for prez, and Naomi Klein gets into it here:Naomi Wolf: America's Fascist Coup Owes to Bush's Nazi Grandfatherhttp://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view _all&address=132x3776423Is it past time to leave the U.S.? Comments welcome! It’s Even Worse Than We ThoughtWhen I first started blogging at dailykos nearly two years ago, I took a lot of grief (and I mean a lot of grief) for some of my assertions (not that there weren’t plenty of others making them), such as:The US has fallen to a fascist coup. The American military/political establishment has long been guilty of the most heinous crimes imaginable. The war in Iraq was always about oil and empire and was planned far in advance of 9/11/2001. The elections of 2000 and 2004 were stolen. The so-called ‘War on Terrorism’ is bogus. Failure to impeach will ensure the end of our democracy. The Democrats have sold us out. Bush and his cronies and everyone who supports them or enables them are all war criminals and traitors. We are never leaving Iraq. We are NOT a democracy. We are not free.http://dailykos.com/story/2007/11/30/202432/97The Last Days of The AmeriKKKan Empire are upon us, what are your immediate plans?
