Pot Compound Should Be Evaluated As Brain Tumor Treatment, Study SaysOctober 18, 2007 - Ramat-Gan, IsraelRamat-Gan, Israel: The primary psychoactive agent in cannabis, THC, possesses anti-tumoral activity in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) cell lines and should be evaluated in clinical trials as a treatment for brain cancer, according to preclinical data to be published in the journal Acta Oncologica.
Investigators at Bar-Ilan University in Israel report that the administration of THC significantly affects the viability of GBM cells. Glioblastoma multiforme, the most aggressive form of glioma (brain cancer), strikes some 7,000 Americans annually, and generally results in death within one to two years following diagnosis."THC [is] an essential mediator of cannabinoid antitumoral action," investigators concluded. "Administration of Delta(9)-THC to glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) cell lines results in a significant decrease in cell viability. … [I]t is suggested that Delta(9)-THC and other cannabinoids be implemented in future clinical evaluation as a therapeutic [agent] for brain tumors."In 2006, investigators at Complutense University in Spain reported that the intracranial administration of THC decreased recurrent GBM tumor growth in humans. Separate preclinical studies indicate that cannabinoids can inhibit the proliferation of various cancer cell lines, including breast carcinoma, prostate carcinoma, lung cancer, and lymphoma. For more information, please contact Paul Armentano, NORML Senior Policy Analyst, at: paul norml.org Full text of the study, "Delta9-Tetrahydrocannabinol inhibits cell cycle progression by downregulation of E2F1 in human glioblastoma multiforme cells," will appear in Acta Oncologica. Additional information on the anti-cancer properties of cannabis is available in NORML’s booklet, "Emerging Clinical Applications for Cannabis and Cannabinoids," available online at: http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=7002DL: http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=7392North Americans Most Likely To Search The Internet For PotOctober 18, 2007 - Washington, DC, USAWashington, DC: Internet users in the United States and Canada are the world’s most frequent searchers for websites about pot, according to a report this week by Reuters News Wire. According to statistics provided by the popular Internet search engine Google, Canadians and Americans are more likely than citizens of other countries to perform Internet searches using the keyword "marijuana." "Both Canadians and Americans report higher rates of cannabis use compared to almost all other nations on the planet," NORML Executive Director Allen St. Pierre said. "These millions of cannabis consumers desire fact-based, educational information about marijuana and marijuana law reform, and they are increasingly turning to the Internet and away from the federal government and the mass media to obtain it."NORML has greatly expanded its online presence to take advantage of this growing trend, St. Pierre explained – noting that NORML’s podcast is one of the most downloaded political audiocasts on the Internet, averaging over 140,000 downloads per week.St. Pierre also said that more than 277,000 subscribers to the social networking website Facebook.com have recently joined NORML’s online ‘Cause’ group – which allows users to donate directly to the organization. In addition, this past September, NORML launched an ‘in world’ office on the popular 3-D virtual world Second Life. The organization also maintains a popular MySpace page, available online at: http://www.myspace.com/natlnorml "We are extremely pleased that NORML is leading the way in online activism – not only among drug policy reform groups, but among all non-profit organizations," St. Pierre said. "Building effective and influential coalitions within online communities is an integral part of NORML’s educational and outreach activities."For more information, please contact NORML Executive Director Allen St. Pierre or NORML Outreach Coordinator Ron Fisher at (202) 483-5500. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has vetoed bi-partisan legislation that would have defined industrial hemp as an "agricultural field crop" and established statewide regulations governing its cultivation by authorized farmers.As approved by the legislature, Assembly Bill 684 would have instituted a pilot program permitting farmers to cultivate hemp in four California counties: Imperial, Kings, Mendocino, and Yolo. Farmers would have been required by law to submit random samples of their plants to an authorized laboratory to assure that their crop did not contain THC potencies greater than 0.3 percent."Under federal law, all cannabis plants, regardless of variety or THC content, are simply considered to be 'marijuana,' which is a federally regulated controlled substance," Schwarzenegger stated in his veto message. He speculated that farmers who failed to obtain federal permits to grow hemp could face federal prosecution – regardless of state law. It is the second year in a row that the Governor has vetoed such legislation.Industrial hemp is currently grown commercially in Canada and in the European Union for its fiber content. According to a 2005 Congressional Research Service (CRS) report, the United States is the only developed nation that fails to cultivate the plant as an economic crop.For more information, please contact Dale Gieringer, California NORML Coordinator, at (415) 563-5858 or visit: http://www.votehemp.org DL: http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=7391Source: NORML Foundation (DC)Published: October 18, 2007Copyright: 2007 NORML Contact: norml norml.org Website: http://www.norml.org/CannabisNews NORML Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/NORML.shtml

The FDA refuses to accept medical cannabis or any medical herb because it is controlled by Big Pharma. Pharma eventually will feel the effects of Karma. I did not hear about the 1974 study indicating that THC, one of the active ingredients in cannabis, halts growth of some cancerous tumors until after my father died of cancer. The following article shows the broad extent of the FDA/Big Pharma conspiracy to profit from the illness of the American public:FDA seizes $71k in herbal tea products as campaign of censorship against nutritional supplements continues.
Thursday, October 18, 2007 by: Mike AdamsExcerpt:
{
(NewsTarget) The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, continuing its campaign of censorship against truthfully-described herbal supplements, seized $71,000 worth of Charantea herbal supplements last week in a raid involving U.S. Marshals. The company, Fulllife Natural Options, was accused by the FDA of marketing an "unapproved drug" due to the truthful marketing claims that accurately describe the blood sugar lowering effects of the product's main ingredient: Bitter Melon fruits.According to the Food and Drug Administration, there is no such thing as an herb, food or supplement that has any biological activity whatsoever on the human body (other than simply providing calories), and any person who dares to make such a claim is immediately considered to be in violation of the FDA's authority. Any substance that has any therapeutic effect whatsoever on the human body is considered by the FDA to be a "drug" and must be approved as such -- a lengthy process costing about $800 million and requiring the favor of an agency that practically works for Big Pharma.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio
oh jeez, remember that $$hole Sheriff Joe Arpaio? http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2007-10-18/news/breathtaking-abuse-of-the-constitution/Sheriff Joe Arpaio Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas, and their increasingly unhinged cat's paw, special prosecutor Dennis Wilenchik, used the grand jury to subpoena "all documents related to articles and other content published by Phoenix New Times newspaper in print and on the Phoenix New Times website, regarding Sheriff Joe Arpaio from January 1, 2004 to the present."-=whats this about a free press again?=-More alarming still, Arpaio, Thomas, and Wilenchik subpoenaed detailed information on anyone who has looked at the New Times Web site since 2004.Every individual who looked at any story, review, listing, classified, or retail ad over a period of years. -=THIS IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL=-The subpoena demands: "Any and all documents containing a compilation of aggregate information about the Phoenix New Times Web site created or prepared from January 1, 2004 to the present, including but not limited to :A) which pages visitors access or visit on the Phoenix New Times website;B) the total number of visitors to the Phoenix New Times website;C) information obtained from 'cookies,' including, but not limited to, authentication, tracking, and maintaining specific information about users (site preferences, contents of electronic shopping carts, etc.);D) the Internet Protocol address of anyone that accesses the Phoenix New Times website from January 1, 2004 to the present;E) the domain name of anyone that has accessed the Phoenix New Times website from January 1, 2004 to the present;F) the website a user visited prior to coming to the Phoenix New Times website;G) the date and time of a visit by a user to the Phoenix New Times website;H) the type of browser used by each visitor (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape Navigator, Firefox, etc.) to the Phoenix New Times website; andI) the type of operating system used by each visitor to the Phoenix New Times website." -----------------------------Special prosecutor Wilenchik wants this information on each and every New Times reader online since 2004.New Times attorneys Tom and Janey Henze responded to the grand jury subpoenas with a motion to quash the overwhelmingly intrusive effort by authorities to seize the newspaper's confidential records, and a motion to make the subpoena public. -=Unbelievable=-

Thank you for that link. Somehow, throughout all my researching of this plant, I never came across anything about that hidden 1974 study. I guess the bastards did a pretty good job of hiding it.

It makes me sick to my stomach to see these studies JUST NOW coming to surface. Karma will come back to bite these *ssholes sooner or later. They will pay for all the pain and suffering they have caused and are continuing to cause as we speak.Together, we can stop this.

The other day there was some discussion about DIGG and how it can help bring attention to important but overlooked stories theres a handy dandy little plugin for firefox that puts a little counter on the bottom right edge of your status bar [the one at the bottom] that tells how many DIGG's a story has, and if there are none you can click on it to submit stories .. it seems to be working pretty well so far for me, no problems, so if anyone else wants to try it out, this is the link:https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4878
