Israel Group Nixes Pot on Passover

Jerusalem -- In bad news for its religious Jewish supporters, an Israeli pro-marijuana party announced Tuesday that pot is forbidden on Passover.Cannabis is among the substances Jews are forbidden to consume during the week-long festival, which begins Monday, said Michelle Levine, a spokeswoman for the Green Leaf party.
Biblical laws prohibit eating leavened foods during Passover, replacing bread with flat crackers called matza. Later injunctions by European rabbis extended those rules to forbid other foods like beans and corn, and more recent rulings have further expanded the ban to include hemp seeds, which today are found in some health oils and in marijuana.Green Leaf is a small political party that supports the legalization of marijuana. Although it is by no means a Jewish religious authority, the group decided to warn its observant supporters away from the drug on Passover."You shouldn't smoke marijuana on the holiday, and if you have it in your house you should get rid of it," Levine said. The edict was first reported in The Jerusalem Post. But not everyone needs to give up their habit for the duration of the festival. The rabbinic injunctions banning hemp were never adopted by Sephardic Jews, who come from countries in the Middle East and North Africa. That means there is no reason they can't keep smoking marijuana, Levine said, except that it remains illegal, despite her party's best efforts.Green Leaf contested the last three national elections but never won a seat, despite gaining popularity as a protest vote. According to Levine, the party has a large number of religious supporters.Source: Associated Press (Wire)Author: Matti Friedman, The Associated PressPublished: Tuesday, March 27, 2007Copyright: 2007 Associated Press CannabisNews -- Cannabis Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/cannabis.shtml

Hey, Paul!
No problem, Man! I'm tellin' 'em! I'm tellin' 'em! I took the Gonzales article and put it down on our meeting table for all the guys to read! We were already having a spell of enlightenment, and this article just magnified it! I have people at work talking about 9-11 Truth, too! Don't give up on Texas! I have it's back!Actually, Paul, I HAVE been working this area with Truth about a number of things. Do not believe ignorance exists only South of the Mason Dixon, and do not believe that NO one is thinking for themselves down here. I also gave an article to a pilot I have referred to in another post, from Pilots for 9-11 Truth. I ALSO gave a preacher the article from V DARE about David Ray Griffin, and he took it home to show his family/pastor. And that is just a one day gig! There is a certain pride among us old DeLay constituants. After all, we DID out him. Have faith. We are winning more battles every day. Soon, the World will be ours! Hey, I can dream, can't I? : )Toke.

Way Down in Texas-Some "Talking Points"
Hi, ya'all down there!Cut to the chase. Tell that person that protects the public health of citizens all over the Lone Star State, to think about the children-You know, the ones that get thrown in the pokey, for a little weed, and then FUDGED IN EVERY PRISON DUNGEON IN THE STATE. Is that public "health"? Is that "rehabilitation"? Is it healthy to allow a system of sex slavery to run rampant, ramshod right through the persons of children that are awakened, by their jailers, for all night sex parties, that have been BURIED, by almost all law enforcement agencies, and which might just implicate GONZO, for a coverup from the US Attorney's office, run by Johnny Sutton, way down there in Texas? Why don't ya'all call Diane Delishi and have her visit one of those sex slavery yards, and talk to some of the sex slaves, that the US Attorney's office passed off as probably "asking for it", or "liking it", and not "injured" from the deal, and no big deal, no federal law was broken, unless the skin was broken (there has to be observable damage, in addition to mere penetration, I guess, down there, in Texas). And a lot of the lost boys, in sex dungeons in Texas, were probably put there because they had a little green, and now, of course, even though their civil rights have been damaged, and their egos and souls stolen, and their freedom to "choose" lost, and horribly anxious, about the fact that the US Attorneys, way down there in Texas, don't care whether they have the choice to "just say no", won't be ever allowed to use cannabis, which helps to wipe out trauma, but Diane Delisi don't care about that, do she?I'm thinkin, like Lincoln, that when GONZO gets gone, after that sex stink slavery slammer story gets goin, that maybe that will shine a little sunlight where it don't get none, right now, and lets pray for hope, for justice, way down there in Texas, where the lost boys maybe have some hope, now after all. Sorry, boys, that you had to go through that sex slavery trade, for real, but maybe this will breath some life into hope for other worthy "health" issues, once Diane Delisi gets a bug up her you know what, if you catch my drift. And you can quote me on this, really you can. PAUL PETERSON, somewhere North of Texas

Medical Marijuana in Texas
Unfortunately the office of Representative Dianne Delisi, who is the Chair of the Public Health Committee, has been telling people that she won’t allow medical marijuana House Bill 1534 to be heard in her committee.Although very frustrating, it does not mean that HB 1534 is dead. We still have over a month for this bill to be heard in committee and we could really use your help in persuading Chairman Delisi to schedule it for a hearing. Please call Representative Delisi and politely ask her to schedule a hearing for HB 1534!
Capitol office phone – 512-463-0630 and District office phone - 254-774-9888- please call both, as the information you learn from these offices could be very useful.Prior to making your call, please look at the Take Action page on our website and scroll down to the HB 1534 fact sheet, so you’ll know what the bill does and doesn’t do and also have talking points available. After you call please email me and let me know what the offices told you, or call the Texans for Medical Marijuana office, if you’d prefer.Sample Phone Script:Hello, may I please speak to someone who works on public health issues in your office?I understand that Chairman Delisi will not allow a hearing on HB 1534, the affirmative defense medical marijuana bill. Is this correct?I’m confused. I don’t understand why she won’t allow Texans to come to the state Capitol and present their case. This could be a good opportunity for the legislators on the committee to learn more about the issue and then make up their minds about it from an educated knowledge base. Can you tell me why Representative Delisi will not schedule the hearing? (Listen and please note the answer, and if you feel comfortable refuting their reason please do so.)Thanks for telling we why, but I certainly hope she changes her mind and I’d appreciate it if you’d let her know that I called and am encouraging her to schedule a hearing for HB 1534 soon. Thanks so much for taking action!Noelle Davis

According to my oldest daughter, who has been a world traveler for the past 8 years, everybody hates Americans, especially since George came to power. One of the reasons she was able to get close to that kind of frankness, is because she speaks 5 languages, and was able to mute her 'americanism.'

Just My Thoughts
We watched a program on Iran on PBS last night. We are in the middle of a war between two groups of people and both groups hate Americans. I don't see anyway to fix it. It's like getting in the middle of someone elses fight. You get punched most often.

interesting...
I distinctly remember discussing this very issue with an old Jewish friend of mine years ago, who went to Jerusalem on a family pilgrimage. At the time, he discussed the herb usage, and one other sacrament that people don't like to talk about; LSD, with a well known Rabbi in Jerusalem. The Rabbi told him simply; If you don't have to labor, or use fire on the Sabbath, then -unless it is already on the 'un-Kosher' list, then it is legal. He was talking about the Sabbath, but I would think that the relation between what you can and can't do on the Sabbath would be very similar to the Passover. This smells very much like Foreign Policy influence by American interests. Of course the connection between American Foreign Policy, and Israel, is one of the reasons why the entire Arab world hates us.

Lent
I agree with Dankhank. Lent was a time that we self analyzed and think about our beliefs. I guess it helps the inner person or so I was taught. When we are in a very deprived time in our lives that is often when we can feel the safest if this makes sense.

Fridays ...
I know of no injunction beyond meatless Fridays during Lent.Catholics are encouraged to "give up" something that they value, for the Lenten period, symbolic of their wish to "suffer" with Jesus. It could be anything ... chocolate, pizza, movies, and is self-imposed.

Sorry Ladies...here are more details!
Dear Friend,By now you have probably heard the comments right-wing pundit Ann Coulter made at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) (OMG! PNAC, CPAC...come on! My emphasis.) on March 2. That's where she said she "can't really talk about" presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) because "you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot.'" The CPAC audience applauded enthusiastically.Coulter's attack on Edwards was just the latest example of the hateful and ignorant rhetoric that fills her every public statement - at political conferences, on television, in her books, and in her nationally-syndicated columns.»; Fight Back -- Condemn Ann Coulter!Immediately after Coulter made her latest comments, Media Matters went to work compiling a list of newspapers carrying her weekly column and providing our readers and the progressive community at large with the appropriate contact information so those concerned could weigh in with their thoughts and feelings. What was Coulter's response?"This is the same thing we go through every six months. I say something, the same people become hysterical, and that's the end of it. I mean, I think the lesson young right wingers ought to draw from this is it's really not that scary to attack liberals. This is about my 17th allegedly career ending moment." -- Ann Coulter on Hannity & Colmes, 03/05/07.Not this time, Ann.»; Fight Back -- Condemn Ann Coulter! So far, Media Matters has identified 39 newspapers across the country that carry Coulter's column. Through emails and calls from people like you, nine of them have agreed to drop her from their publication. That's almost 25 percent! And several of those that are keeping Coulter have been forced to explain their decision.Though we've made progress, we cannot rest. This is an ongoing campaign, and we need your help. There are three things you can do to continue putting pressure on those that publish her columns: 1. Contact the papers still carrying Coulter's column, especially if they happen to be your local paper! Click here for a list of newspapers still carrying Ann Coulter's column. If you see your local or regional paper listed, contact them -- and make sure to tell them you are local!
  2. Tell us when your local or regional paper drops or picks up Coulter's column. When you find out your local or regional paper has decided to drop or run Coulter's column, email us at mm-tips mediamatters.org. You can help us keep our tally of newspapers that carry Coulter's column up to date so we can continue to track our progress.
  3. Tell your friends to join our campaign! Click here to forward this message to your friends, family, and colleagues. The more voices, the more power. The more calls and emails the newspapers get, the less likely they will be willing to promote and distribute Coulter's hate speech.»; Fight Back -- Condemn Ann Coulter! If you think Ann Coulter's comments at CPAC aren't a big deal or were just a one-time thing, keep in mind some of the other remarks she's recently made: * Vice President Al Gore is a "total fag"
  * "[P]rofiling Muslims is more like profiling the Klan."
  * "Even money" on Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton "coming out of the closet."
  * Liberals are "fak[ing] a belief in God."
  * 9-11 widows are "cruel" and "put a lot of other women at risk for becoming widows."
  * The New York Times staff should be "executed."Only continued pressure on Ann Coulter and those who promote and distribute her hate speech will stop her from further poisoning our national debate and teach her the true power of the progressive movement.Sincerely,Jamison Foser,
Managing Director

Some people bond through voluntary sacrifice
Social bonds are important for a functioning society, and scientists are finding that religious traditions help foster those bonds.Much of Judeo-Christian tradition is about recognizing and imitating the suffering and sacrifice of ancient Jews and Christians. These traditions have formed a big part of the social bonding mechanisms for Jews and Christians throughout history.I wonder if these traditions of memory will ever evolve in cannabis culture. Maybe some day when cannabis is legal, cannabists will avoid toking on 4/20, as a way of remembering the people who suffered from Prohibition?
