Posted by FoM on July 28, 1999 at 19:32:14 PT Police say they caught him in act Source: Deseret News KEARNS — A little league football coach has been arrested for allegedly supplying his players — some as young as 8 years old — with marijuana. Desmond Perkins was arrested at his home in Kearns, 5309 W. Lewisclark Circle (5075 South), by Salt Lake County sheriff's deputies just before midnight Tuesday, Sgt. Robby Russo said. When police raided the home, Perkins was sitting in the living room surrounded by about eight kids, including his own, who were watching him cut and divide drugs, Russo said.Perkins, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of possession of a controlled substance with an intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, and a weapons charge, because there was a loaded sawed-off shotgun in the home, Russo said. Any charges filed by prosecutors will be enhanced because of the involvement of children, he said.Police believe Perkins has been "recruiting" drug users from his ranks of players for at least four years. One of those players, who is now 18, informed on the coach after his own arrest for drug possession. He told police he had been buying drugs from the coach for several years.Deputies seized about one pound of marijuana from the home, Russo said. Police also tracked down the man supplying Perkins with drugs, arrested him and seized about 17 more pounds of the drug.Perkins has been a coach in the Ute Football Conference junior program for at least 10 years, a conference spokesman said. The conference is a little league program that many aspiring football players participate in prior to playing high school-level football. Players in the Ute junior program range between 8 and 14 years old.Perkins is not an employee of Kearns High School or affiliated with the Kearns High football team.By Jennifer DobnerDeseret News staff writerDeseret News, Wednesday, July 28, 1999, 12:00 AM MDTCopyright © 1999, Deseret News Publishing Corp. http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/1,1249,100013208,00.html? If you are going to write a news article on something you may want to talk to bolth party's involved so that you can atleast get most of the story straight. Lets go through the facts. Yes Desmond Perkins was A Ute Conference football coach and was Busted at his house that is true. When the door was busted down by police officers they did not say police open up. The said CABLE COMPANY, then proceded to kick the door off the hinges and then down the stairs. Then the bastards tried to shoot our dogs. Luckily my brother jumped on them risking his own life to save them. let me mind you at this pooint there are laser pointers coming from all directions. cops are piling in by the dozens. There was 2 17year olds in the front room with desmond perkins the time and they were not cutting anything up they were twisting a J. Desmond Did not Sell Drugs to his players all he would dispise it. This news paper article failed to mention that Desmonds Footballs teams were the onloy Kearns football teams that were making it to the playoffs & State championships. There is not a coach on that field that put more effort into helping kids then Desmond Perkins. He took Kearns to the State champs 5 years straight. Does this sound like someone who would recruit there players to by drugs from him?The only thing remotely close to that was his sons selling dank to there friends. It all comes down to DON"T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ IN THE NEWS. Because some staff writers are assholes that are willing to ruin others peoples lifes for their own stories success.
