S.F. Passes Marijuana Tolerance Law

Calif. -- San Francisco's Board of Supervisors passed a law that essentially says when it comes to marijuana, the city doesn't much care. The proposal passed overwhelmingly today and it gets a second reading same time next week, but that's mostly a formality. So for all intents and purposes, the city has a new pot policy.
Veronica Gaynor, Fair Oaks Community Coalition: "The police will have to arrest for barking dogs or spitting on the sidewalk before they get to this marijuana."Members of a mission neighborhood group oppose the new measure which makes marijuana violations by adults on private property the lowest priority for San Francisco police. The mayor says it simply formalizes what is already city policy.Gavin Newsom, San Francisco: "I don't see it changing anything what so ever - frankly I think it's just symbolic."The measure provides some exceptions: allowing crackdowns on those caught driving under the influence, selling pot on public property, if it poses a threat to public safety, and the use and sale involving minors. Most other marijuana offenses will be a low priority but Police Chief Heather Fong says that doesn't mean her officers will turn a blind eye. Chief Heather Fong, SFPD: "When there are legitimate criminal behaviors, criminal acts that occur, officers are permitted to enforce the law as they have been."A public hearing was held yesterday. Some critics believe the measure will undermine San Francisco's medical marijuana clubs.Kim Stryker, Fair Oaks Community Coalition: "There's no reason to get a permit for a medical facility, there's no reason to get a medical card - you just go to your neighbor and buy what you want in unlimited amounts according to this legislation."Supervisor Tom Ammiano calls that an over-reaction. He is the sponsor of the legislation.Tom Ammiano: "I don't know why the in quotes neighbors, because they aren't my neighbors, keep saying that after we point out that it's not true. Whatever the police are doing now they will continue to do, it's up to them."San Francisco's new law includes a committee to monitor the implementation. This law is similar to an ordinance passed by Santa Cruz voters last week. You sure don't have to answer us individually. Most important is that you take care of yourself and your wife. Try to stay busy for a few days and it will help pass the time because time always heals. I used the internet to keep me busy after the death of my son and time passed and I did heal. Nothing comes to stay. It always come to pass.

Prohibitionists, take look at the fine words these fellow posters had. These were not words of appeasement; these were truly heartfelt by them. I have not met them face-to-face, but that compassion is as real as it can get. That same Compassion, Spirit, & Drive, is what powers our quest to change these laws that are unjustly applied to only some people. You cannot stop this; this is only one place out of many more that exist around the world. Millions of people feel the same, and we will change those laws. The forces are in motion and cannot be stopped. For profit and paycheck, with our money, you have lied to us, beaten us, taken us to jail, and even worse to some. But you will not stop the drive. “Six Pack Joe” is caching on to the scam, and is getting tiered of peeing in a cup. You might have “officially” won in Colorado & Nevada, but just barely. We will be back at that ballot box again with even more voters pushing that button.I think of a term, Solidarity...and it’s only a Plant.

The Sky Was Crying
Thank You ALL, for those kind words. It sure does help. I put on the tunes, Neil Young’s Toronto Jam, and part of Spirit’s Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus then went outside and sat in some of her/our favorite spots, listened to the music, and paid tribute to her. After the last 2 tunes “When I Touch You” then “Natures Way” was over, everything was super quiet for about 5 maybe 10 minutes, then it started raining, I saw it as her tears, showing us she misses us too, and her way of thanks.Strange to some maybe, but not to me.It had been turbulent, extra windy and cloudy here all day yesterday, but for that few moments, right at that precise time, right after those two particular songs, it was really extra quiet, and the silence had gotten hold of my attention, no wind, no background noise, just quite, then it rained.I will miss my Baby Girl.We were truly blessed when she came into our lives. Thanks Again.

Look for her at the Rainbow BridgeRainbow BridgeJust this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....Author unknown... http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm

Well, it looks like the Santa Cruz Sentinel has decided their Monday editorial trashing the marijuana initiative will be the last word on the subject. You know they have to have received many letters after that, but they haven't printed even
ONE of them.http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/news/edit/index.htmlI hope the fascist media will have its day of accounting soon too!whigDid you get my e-mail?

Faux News
I saw that broadcast last night, and I just had to watch it again this morning. It was BRILLIANT! I've noticed about Faux since last Tuesday, all they air now is 'what are the Republicans doing' and 'the Democrats are going to screw up such-and-such' and 'Iran-this-and-Iran-that', they really are trying to get us stoked up about another war. It is appalling. They're not a news organization. I don't even think they're a mouthpiece for George W., I wouldn't even give them THAT much credit. I don't know what they are, but they're not journalists.Kudos to Bob Greenwald, and the Huffington Post, and most definitely kudos to Keith Olbermann for bringing this to the forefront for all of us. Keith really is an outstanding journalist. I still get a chuckle out of the fact that he used to be on SportsCenter... he's sure made one hell of a career for himself, and deservedly so.

Faux and O.J.
Fox (Faux) is also going to further disgrace itself and the republicans (if that is possible) with this O.J. Simpson thing, just by being involved, since everyone knows Faux and the GOP are hand-in-hand.I have a feeling that the criminally insane O.J. has really done it this time, and will provoke terminal karmic backlash. In other words, I am going to predict right here that somebody is going to kill him, or attempt to. Of course I'm not advocating that kind of extreme behavior, but I have a strong feeling that that is going to be someone's reaction. If I'm wrong, call me a crackpot later. L.A. has a strange way of working these things out.

Faux Nexs revealed as bush 'shills' memo:
Here's how they 'shape' the news at Faux, detailed today by Keith Olberman, my vote for President, or Howard Deans' V.P.!Great news in San Francisco!!! This memo should help our cause as well, FOM, as we've been saying this for years, you decide!Hard evidence of the 'liberal media':From Crooksandliars.comOlbermann did an segment on John Moody's "The Fox memo" that the Huffington Post revealed. Robert Greenwald explains…Heads should roll, but they won't. FOX has a function to fill for the administration and fill it they will. The sad fact is that Conservatives will probably watch FOX even more now. Root, root, root for the home team…

I agree with you. The dispensaries are a stop-gap and while I appreciate them for what they are doing, they are not entitled to a perpetual monopoly. Those who adapt will prosper, and those who have been providing community service will have loyal customers for a long time to come. Embrace change and grow.

Veronica Gaynor, Fair Oaks Community Coalition: "The police will have to arrest for barking dogs or spitting on the sidewalk before they get to this marijuana."And that's exactly as it should be. A person using cannabis privately and in no way bothering others with it is FAR LESS of a public nuisance or danger than either of those two examples! Show me how a person walking stoned down the street is more of a hazard to anyone than those examples! You can't, because they're not! Barking dogs disturb the peace, and spitting on the sidewalk can disturb others (it's gross) and may be a health hazard. The only "danger" that ignorant people associate with cannabis use is imaginary and subjectively perceived. It is a "thought crime," not an actual crime. People who object to others' cannabis use are afraid of how it might make the user feel, that it may cause some euphoria (oh horrors!) or of some moral lapse that is in the imagination of the anti-cannabis person, and not something ever evidenced by the cannabis user him/herself. Make no mistake, this is the very root of the prohibitionist mindset: irrational fear based in ignorance combined with a pathological need to control the lives and behavior of others. The measure provides some exceptions: allowing crackdowns on those caught driving under the influence, selling pot on public property, if it poses a threat to public safety, and the use and sale involving minors.Excellent, so that will mean that everyone growing in the privacy of their homes in SF have de facto immunity to SF city prosecution? Beautiful.

I would hope they would celebrate with the rest of us. It would be tragic if they acted to maintain the status quo to protect the clubs. There will always be a place for the fine herb shops. They just need to be prepared to adapt.

Had Enough / SF vote
Had Enough: My condolences... I can't pretend to know exactly how you feel (my last pet was a childhood dog), but I sure can imagine. Hang in there.I was reading about he SF vote today and I was wondering about one thing. It said that there were two separate votes needed to make it law. The instant article says that second vote comes in a week. The article is casual about it, saying that it's only a formality. I hope that's true. These days I don't take any kind of political victory for granted.

                    Pet Lovers
We are special. I lost my cocker spaniel of 12 years last year. I was on vacation and got a call that he died at the kennel. I am 54 and it was devastating. I still shed a tear if I think about him for more than a minute. He was my "boy". Some people I know will look at me and wonder what all the fuss is. "It's only a dog". I feel sorry for those people who are unable to share the wonderful experience of owning and loving God's animals. I love them all. Wild or not.

Bless you my friend and hurry out and get another one. You'll know the one. The one that comes to you, raises it's tiny head with the excited eyes and the unmistakable smile on it's face, gives you a "wink", and placing it's tiny paw in your hand, asks: "Master?"(Putting a long arm around Had Enough's shoulder) You are a Good Man and animal lover. It's so painful to lose our pets. They are so important. I understand your grief.Only thing I can say, I guess is, she was a good dog and it was good that you got to share so many years with her. It seems 12 years old is a long life for a German Shepherd. You must have taken really good care of her. I'm sorry it was time for her to leave you. They can be such dear friends and companions. I love to watch a dog that's good with kids, too.Someone said dogs were given to us for comfort and companionship and to make us feel good about ourselves, no matter what, with their adoration...and cats, and their cat attitudes, were a balancing gift, to keep us humble.

I am so sorry. It makes me get tears in my eyes. I love animals more then most people. They are honest and don't yell at you and just are loyal. They don't judge and they aren't political. That was to make you laugh and I hope it does. I know that she had the best life with you. If she was your only dog remember there are dogs that will be put down that need a home. Take some time and you can't replace her but you should have another dog since you are so good with them. I dread when my dogs die. We have our own area in our yard where we have buried all our dogs over the years.

SF news
The news from San Francisco is almost unbelievable. It is lovely news, and also very uplifting and just. What's funny is how little widespread news there is about it. Where cannabis is more accepted, this kind of news is a "yeah whatever" thing. It really should be as simple as this, with a small legislative body saying, " You know what? this law is senseless, let's just fix it." It's the highly enforced prohibition areas where people on both sides of the issue are so fired up. I really feel that once we get past this ridiculous cannabis prohibition nationwide, the sky will not fall, the terrorists will not win, but those who wish to use it will, those who wish to not use cannabis will not.....and life will go on....in a more sensible manner.

Thank you all for allowing me this
Well today I had to put our dog, Eby (short for Ebony), aka: Baby Girl aka: Shadow, to sleep. I truly miss her already. Any other day she would be right here by my side or not far away. The place feels empty. She was German Shepard, all black and beauty. She was good with children; she took care of them as if they were her own. I saw it with my own eyes, many times. An amazing sight. She lost her sight or most of it Sunday afternoon, she couldn’t see where she was going, and her paw and legs were swollen up to the point of keeping her from even walking more than a few feet. At first I thought a snake or maybe an insect might have bitten her. I called the Vet Monday, he said that the cancer has moved in to other parts of her body, and is what would cause the sudden vision loss if certain conditions existed, which he said was very probable in this case. We could have gone along with more tests, biopsies, etc… had we chosen. We decided it would be best to let her be at peace, instead of her dealing arthritis and cancer. Her body was shutting down on her, and she was retaining water. She was more than 12 yrs old. After it was over the Vet said we did the right thing. He said that we cared well for her despite almost 4 yrs ago finding a 10-inch diameter tumor mass in her abdomen, where most people would have given up long ago, and he complimented us on that. He said he knew she was well cared for through her life, and she was a happy dog, and had a good quality life. She had been hanging out with us since she was 9 months old. He has been her Vet for about 8 yrs, and is a good man. He knew I didn’t want to see her go.I opted to have her remains cremated, and the ashes returned in a generic cardboard box, I will spread her ashes in the yard on her favorite spots.Well now, time to move on. The glass is still half full. We shared many years together. Instead dwelling on the loss, I will try do think of all the love she had to share. Right now it’s not easy, but it will come in time.Dogs, truly mans best friend. Toker00. I agree with you, people should be more like them. These are not actual pictures of her, but are almost identical. I can tell the difference anyway. Most people wouldn’t.http://www.bozeta.co.uk/black_progeny.htm
