USA -- Imagine the following TV commercial: A close-up shot of an egg. A narrator says, "This is your tax money." Then the egg rolls onto the floor, smashing open. The narrator continues: "And this is your tax money working to keep kids off drugs." It might bring to mind a famous anti-drug spot. "This is your brain," a voice said as an egg was shown on screen. "And this is your brain on drugs," he continued ominously as the egg was seen frying in a sizzling skillet.
That public service announcement was fodder for many late-night comedy sketches and countless jokes, but it may not have done a thing to keep kids from trying illegal drugs. Decades later, anti-drug advertisements continue to appear in print and on television, but there is now evidence that they aren't working as intended. In fact, one recent study has demonstrated that certain government-sponsored anti-drug spots may have spurred some kids to say "yes" to dope. This is your brain in a dither. And your tax dollars going down the drain. Since 1998, the federal government has spent $1.2 billion on a media campaign meant to keep kids from using drugs. When the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, decided to try to gauge how the campaign had been working, the research firm it hired came back with bad news. So the GAO ordered further review. And Westat Inc., the research company, confirmed its earlier findings, with the GAO then backing the results. It is long past time to recognize that many elements of the so-called war on drugs have failed. The taxpayer-funded media campaign is just the latest to be declared a flop. No one wants kids to use illegal drugs. No one wants them to experiment with marijuana, to toy with pills, to become addicted to cocaine or methamphetamine. But that does not mean that failed efforts to keep kids off drugs should be blindly continued. If the anti-drug media campaign isn't working - and there is every reason to believe that it is not - then it should be discontinued. We can think of lots of ways to spend another billion dollars. We'll start with just one: more money for effective drug treatment programs. The current plan has not been working. It's high time to choose a new course. We had a wonderful time when you were here. Maybe we will be able to do it again someday. I believe we should always be thankful for what we have like the lyrics says.

The reason prohibitionists fight us so hard is because of what they see when they look at themselves in the mirror. "The don't love themselves, so they can't love nobody else." --Bob Marley"Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on Main Street.
Chicago, New York, Detroit and it's all on the same street.
Your typical city involved in a typical daydream
Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings.Dallas, got a soft machine; Houston, too close to New Orleans;
New York's got the ways and means; but just won't let you be, oh no."
Excerpt from Truckin' by the Grateful Dead
http://www.oldielyrics.com/lyrics/grateful_dead/truckin.html"Find me where ye echo lays
Lose ye bodies in the maze
See the lord and all the mouths he feeds
Let it roll among the weeds
Let it roll ....Fools illusions everywhere
Joan and Molly sweep the stairs
Eyes that shining full of inner light
Let it roll into the night"
Excerpt from GEORGE HARRISON lyrics - Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)

Pain more painful
Laughter much louder
Yeah, when I was young
When I was young ....My faith was so much stronger then
I believed in fellow men
And I was so much older then
When I was young
When I was young
When I was young"

Whig and Max Flowers
The Republican Party is always wanting to put people in jail or talking about how evil we are and how they need to lock everyone up for everything and they are the ones who have the problem. It really boggles my mind. It's like they protest too much.

You know that I have learned to understand Gay people and I didn't think you meant that. Something would be wrong with a person who can't appreciate beauty whether it is a young person or an older one, male or female. It's when a person preys upon youth that bothers me.

This has absolutely nothing to do with adult homosexual relationships. This man most likely molested multiple teenagers under his control. He's a 50-something year old man. Would it be better if they were each somebody's daughter rather than somebody's son?

I should add
I'm not hostile to gay men at all... the only reason I call his behavior "depraved" is because of the hypocrisy. In the context of being a so-called "leader" on issues of fighting pedophile crime, his antics take on a much more sinsiter air. And I also don't think that being attracted to 16 year old people is the same thing (nearly as bad, IOW) as being attracted to 6-year-old kids. Hell, I find many 16 year old girls attractive and that doesn't make me a pedophile, nor do I act on those attractions. But when you're in a position of power and trust like congresspersons are, well... you gotta watch your act.

We are in the middle of an information war, a shitstorm of massive proportions. The administration has been wiretapping everyone in the congress, but they have an insurrection. So everyone has to dump everything on everyone as fast as they can discredit the other before they get discredited. This is part of the whole unfolding war that took Valerie Plame into the public eye.I said something about this before, a few months ago here maybe, that the CIA is doing its part to pull down the administration before it gets replaced with the new KGB (called DNI, Office of the Director of National Intelligence). Bush knows this and is trying to push back, but is hamstrung by the Libby case.

About the Foley fellow. It's nice to know people who drink are making laws to control us. Clinton doesn't sound so bad next to Foley. Is it me or are there more sleazy people who are Republicans? I don't like the party or what it stands for but that isn't an issue. It's like they are sneaky, opinionated, judgmental losers to me. It's almost like they have an inferiority complex and have to act the way they do so someone pays attention to them or something.

A thought about the Foley scandal
I find it pathetic (as well as very telling) that Foley has suddenly entered an alcohol rehab program as his scandal crashes down around him, in an attempt to give the impression that alcoholism is the cause and driving force behind his behavior. Isn't it interesting that he did not try to put the blame on pot use or drug use, the subsequent demonization of which which would have been far more consistent with Republican "values"... to me, that he tries to blame drinking is an acknowledgment of the hard truth that alcohol is and always will be the premier substance for making one lose one's morals and screwing up one's judgment, despite that alcohol obviously has nothing to do with his long-standing sexual orientation and fetish for young men (16-year-old boys). I don't want to give anyone any ideas, but think of how much an anti-cannabis coup it would be for the drug warriors if Foley, since he is going to crash and burn anyway, decided to give as a gift to his Republican colleagues the anti-pot ammunition of claiming that his depravities were inspired by cannabis use.On second thought, that would never fly either and there would be a huge backlash against that as well. But it's just the kind of sick trick I could see these guys pulling. Ick... you see what's happening?---I've been watching their stupid games for so long that I'm beginning to be able to think like them!Another thought I can't help having is that this is very strange that this is all coming out now, six weeks before the elections. I mean, the timing could not have possibly been worse for the Republicans. Not that I'm complaining, mind you! It just seems almost perfectly timed. All I can say is "thank you for your well-timed depravity, Mr. Foley." Also very transparent is the sudden dropping of gasoline prices six weeks pre-election, and the release of new "Al-Qaeda tapes."
