New York -- As parents today struggle to keep their children drug free, they need to arm themselves with the facts about the dangers of marijuana and be aware of the deceptive campaigns that attempt to legitimize this illicit substance. Recently, New York lawmakers introduced two bills in the state's Senate and Assembly. These bills would legalize the possession, manufacture, sale, administration, delivery, dispensing and distribution of marijuana in connection with so-called medical use. Efforts such as these have contributed to the increased use of marijuana and other drugs by young people.
In 1996, California voters approved the use of marijuana for pseudo-medicinal purposes. Since that time 10 other states have approved its use for this purpose, and 33 more states have proposed similar legislation. As a result, between 1999 and 2001, marijuana use by juveniles increased 3.2% nationwide. This national average is far exceeded in most states that have legalized marijuana as a so-called medicine.California and Colorado had a spike double the national rate, while Hawaii had quadruple the rate and Maine experienced a 54.4% increase. In addition, between 1992 and 2001 there was a 49% increase in adolescent admissions to treatment programs. Of these, marijuana admissions rose to 62% from 23%. I love CRUDE HONEY
crude adj. crud·er, crud·est. 1. Being in an unrefined or natural state; raw. That's actually an accurate description of cannabis. 2. Lacking tact, refinement, or taste. That's an accurate description of those spouting the lie that "crude marijuana" isn't medicine. 3. Not carefully or completely made; rough. That would mean there's a mistake with God's creation. 4. Displaying a lack of knowledge or skill. See my comment for definition #2. 5. Undisguised or unadorned; blunt. Boy, I don't even have to write the joke on this one. LOL 6. Archaic. Unripe or immature. Patience, people. It's crap if you harvest early. The Reverend Bud Green

Notice the change?
Ah, yes, the Party Line has been developed: Now, it's 'crude marijuana' that has no medical uses.Like the old Sovs; praise some Party hack one day, and the next he's on his way to the Gulag and all mention of him is wiped out. Reality changes to suit the ideology. Sickening! We've GOT to get this statement challenged in court; they wouldn't last 5 minutes under cross-examination by a lawyer armed with the facts.

Blatant Lies and Dishonest Use of Statistics
According to the last published state estimates from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, marijuana use by teens in California is below the national average. Current use by all age groups is only slightly higher than average. Nationwide, 6.18% of those twelve and older reported using marijuana within thirty days of the 2003 survey. In California 6.5% admitted past thirty day use. The national average for those 12 to 17 was 8.03%. In California it was 7.66%. The national average for people 18 to 25 was 17.17%, in California it was 16.09%. The only reason overall use was higher in California is because 4.57% of those 26 and older reported past thirty day use as compared to the national average of 4.01%.http://www.oas.samhsa.gov/2k3State/appB.htm#tabB.3

Shoot Kapt she's just squawking for her cut!
This seems to be how you get a 'career' in the pharma world (401k 'n all to baby!)...be a thorn in their ass long enough/loud enough. It's like the kids who write virus's to get a job with Micro$oft. This whole schebang will definately seperate the "true believers" though especially with the questions that poor Corby Schapelle is bringing up these days. All I can say to Miss Fay is...Es stultior asino AND...Antiquis temporibus, nati tibi similes in rupibus ventosissimis exponebantur ad necem While harsh I would say that at least it's an honest expression of how I feel about her 'ilk'. How can these people not see that they are setting us up for future gas chambers/re-education centers with this continual demonization, distortions of the truth and blinders to suffering for any not spewing dogma? Pushing Drugs to Children
The real drug dealers who push drugs on children are big pharmacy and those who support them and those they support...like Drug Free America. This weekend my heart was crushed to see the effects of the real drug pushers on my poor little grandbaby. His lively and vibrant personality is destroyed. His health looks like it's deteriorating drastically to me. All because he has a strong personality and the teachers don't like it and doctors and teachers and pharmaceutical companies have convinced his mother that it's the right thing to do.Drug Free America, Government and it’s lackeys for big pharm, “modern” medicine, misled doctors, lazy teachers, overwhelmed parents, and most especially, big pharmaceutical companies are the ones pushing drugs on innocent children.God help us all, please!

drug-free children
Does she honestly want us to believe that punishing the sick for a medicinal herb must be done to keep kids from using cannabis, while at the same time, we allow every sports league to be heavily sponsored by beer and liquor advertising, which completely saturates every sporting arena, radio broadcast, and TV broadcast? Kids will have seen 20,000 commercials by the time they hit high school - but a few thousand very ill people deserve jail for growing a plant inside their house?

Ms. Fay, meet Dr. Barthwell
You know "Dr." Barthwell, don't you? You're two peas in the same prohibitionist pod. Surely she's told you of her new job with GW Pharma...peddling (according to you, unproven) medical marijuana? In the form of a spray? The antis don't seem to be on the same sheet of music this time. More signs os disarray in their camp. This business with GW Pharma may be a blessing in disguise; a wedge to pry apart the cynical, money-grubbing anti opportunists from the foaming, wild-eyed True Believers like Fay. Both sides are shown to be hypocrites by the introduction of something they swore up and down was a contradiction in terms...

watch out!
"Fay is executive director of the Drug Free America Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting drug use and promoting effective drug policies." The DFAF is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Also formerly know as Straight, Inc and have been sued and sued and sued. The 'clients' that have been subjected to 'treatment' from the Straight program were guinea pigs and a cash cow, nothing more. They do not have a good track record and the Drug Free America Foundation is not what it purports itself to be.Here's the real story about these quacks and crackpots:"Many others are tied to Drug Free America Foundation, Inc. which was formerly known as Straight, Inc.--an organization notorious for its egregious violations of civil liberties and human rights of young people. And some of these individuals are tied to both." About the open forum message board opened by the DFAF:"As far as can be ascertained by us, DFAF opened the board sometime on Thursday October 31, 2002. By Friday former clients had begun posting and someone informed us at the Institute of the developing situation at 2330 hours Friday night. We made an unpublished prediction here that the forums would be closed by noon the next day--Saturday. At some point on Saturday November 2, the School board and the Wall board both posted this alert: "The site administrators have made this forum inaccessible." Uhh, fuzzy math? Pick and choose the years?
Look at the data range they used. 1999-2000 and 2000-2001.. 24 months of data. Newsbrief: Medical Marijuana "Sends Wrong Message" Claims Challenged By Decreasing California Teen Marijuana Use 8/20/04 Results of a biennial study of California junior and senior high school students show declining rates of teenage marijuana use, state Attorney General Bill Lockyer announced Wednesday. The decline in teen pot-smoking came in the context of an overall decline in drug, alcohol, and tobacco use among teens in the survey. The decline also comes despite eight years of legalized medical marijuana in the state. Opponents of medical marijuana have often claimed that allowing the medicinal use of the herb would "send the wrong message" to young people, presumably leading to an epidemic of reefer-crazed zombie teenagers. According to the Tenth Biennial California Student Survey, which measures drug use among 7th, 9th and 11th graders, marijuana use declined among all three groups from the previous year, continuing a trend beginning in the mid-1990s. Six percent of 7th graders, down from 7.2 percent, and 18.8 percent of 9th graders, down from 19 percent, reported using marijuana during the past six months. Among 11th graders, the number dropped almost four percentage points, from 34 percent to 30.5 percent. The numbers are the lowest recorded since the survey began twenty years ago and are nearly half the level reported in 1995-1996. Medical marijuana passed by popular vote in 1996. The survey also found record rates of abstinence from alcohol or drug use, with 70% of 7th graders, 49% of 9th graders, and 35% of 11th graders reporting no use in the previous six months. Even "heavy use" is reported to have declined.

analysis
[1]
New York -- As parents today struggle to keep their children drug free, they need to arm themselves with the facts about the dangers of marijuana and be aware of the deceptive campaigns that attempt to legitimize this illicit substance.
(Sentence 1) re: "children" - "Chemicals have long been inextricably linked in prohibitionist literature with the ... corruption of young people." [W.White,1979] (Children Corrupted (propaganda theme 5) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme5.htm#5 ) re: "drug free" - Any mention of lessening the harshness of drug laws is portrayed as a sinful "legalization". Only total prohibition (or more jailings) will be righteous. (Total Prohibition or Access (propaganda theme 7) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme7.htm#7 )

[7]
As a result, between 1999 and 2001, marijuana use by juveniles increased 3.2% nationwide.
(Sentence 7) re: "marijuana use" - Prohibition propaganda claims that all use of any "drug" is abuse. (Use is Abuse (propaganda theme 4) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme4.htm#alluseisabuse )

[8]
This national average is far exceeded in most states that have legalized marijuana as a so-called medicine.
(Sentence 8) re: "legalized" - Onward prohibitionist drug warriors, fighting the epidemic and scourge in the battles of the war against drugs! (Drugs declared evil by politicians, that is.) (Total Prohibition or Access (propaganda theme 7) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme7.htm#7 )

[12]
According to the FDA and every major medical association in the United States, there are no proven benefits to marijuana use for medical purposes.
(Sentence 12) re: "marijuana use" - The rhetoric of prohibition will assume that "use" and "abuse" are identical. (Use is Abuse (propaganda theme 4) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme4.htm#alluseisabuse )

[15]
If New York makes an exception for the people who claim marijuana is a medicine, it will open the door to widespread marijuana use and fraudulent claims of illness for all drug users.
(Sentence 15) re: "drug users", "users" - The rhetoric of prohibition will try to use labeling and guilt by association to link drugs and drug users with hated groups. (Hated Groups (propaganda theme 1) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme1.htm#1 ) re: "drug users", "marijuana use" - Prohibitionists try to hammer in the idea that 'all use is abuse.' The rhetoric of prohibition needs to deny that many people can use currently illegal drugs without abusing them. (Use is Abuse (propaganda theme 4) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme4.htm#alluseisabuse )

[16]
It will have devastating effects for millions of families struggling to raise drug-free children and for those battling addiction.
(Sentence 16) re: "children" - Prohibitionists play on parental fears by exaggerating the dangers to children of drugs. Adults must be jailed (reason prohibitionists), because kids might be corrupted with drugs. (Children Corrupted (propaganda theme 5) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme5.htm#5 ) re: "drug-free" - With God on Their Side (prohibitionists assure us), only the continued rooting out of the sinful drug users (total prohibition) will do. All else is portrayed as the slippery slope to total legalization of all drugs for toddlers. (Total Prohibition or Access (propaganda theme 7) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme7.htm#7 )

[17]
Fay is executive director of the Drug Free America Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting drug use and promoting effective drug policies.
(Sentence 17) re: "America" - Prohibitionists assert that the survival of the community, society, the nation, the world, etc. are at stake. Only continued and increased punishments for drug users can be contemplated, because, say prohibitionists, society will otherwise fall apart. (Survival of Society (propaganda theme 3) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme3.htm#3 ) re: "drug use" - "This strategy equates the use and abuse of drugs and implies that it is impossible to use the particular drug or drugs in question without physical, mental, and moral deterioration." [W.White,1979] (Use is Abuse (propaganda theme 4) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme4.htm#alluseisabuse ) re: "Drug Free" - Drug policy options are presented as either total prohibition, or as total "legalization." No middle ground is contemplated in the "zero-tolerance" world of prohibition. Absolute prohibition executed with religious fervor and purpose! (Total Prohibition or Access (propaganda theme 7) http://drugpolicycentral.com/bot/pg/propaganda/theme7.htm#7 )

cause and effect
I think this is the most absurd conclusion I've seen drawn yet regarding the MMJ debate. Notice that the author proposes no mechanism by which MMJ provides juveniles with marijuana where they otherwise have not had it.Perhaps the best speculation here is that confused law enforcement may have a bog-down in their efforts when there is too much legal cannabis in people's possessions, since they would have to consider everyone on a case by case basis. This would still be speculation, just like the speculation that MMJ causes juveniles to obtain and use more marijuana, but at least it doesn't rely on some causal mechanism that is hidden from us. (And incidentally, state ID cards for medical users would help to address this issue.)
