World's Longest Undefended Border Getting Security

Victoria -- The U.S.- Canada boundary -- often called the world's longest undefended border -- may no longer be so undefended. The U.S. is stepping up surveillance along the border, in the air and on the water, starting with a high-tech unit than begins operations in Bellingham, just across the border from the Vancouver area.
"It is the first of five such border units that will be established from Bellingham over to Plattsburg, New York," said Gary Bracken, communications director for the Office of Air and Marine Operations. The New York unit will be set up later this year and units in Montana, North Dakota and Michigan will be established in coming years. The move is part of the U.S. response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. But Braken doubted whether establishing a presence along the boundary with Canada would jeopardize the long-standing boast about the undefended border. "I don't really see this will change that," he said, adding that it only strengthens the relationship with Canadian authorities and counterparts in other agencies of the United States government. "We're just bringing air and marine capabilities to the border that have proven to be very successful along our southern border and in the Caribbean basin. These capabilities are not aimed at changing the relationship with the Canadian government or its people." Solicitor General Rich Coleman could not be reached for comment about how the beefed-up security might impact British Columbia. Air and Marine Operations, a branch of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, operates 10 similar bases along the U.S.-Mexico border and has provided airspace security for events throughout the U.S., including Super Bowls 2003 and 2004 and the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. The new Bellingham unit will eventually be staffed by 69 U.S. federal law enforcement officers with jurisdiction across all 50 states. It will operate a fixed-wing surveillance plane, a medium-lift helicopter, a so-called light-enforcement helicopter and at least one high-speed enforcement boat. This is in addition to the security provided by the FBI, Secret Service, the U.S. coast guard and border patrol and state and local agencies. Braken acknowledged that thwarting the smuggling of marijuana -- so-called "B.C. bud" -- is a prime consideration for establishing the first unit in the Pacific Northwest. But he said there are also other fears and possible threats. "Along the (Canadian) border we are also faced with the smuggling of migrants, weapons, currency in both directions, as well as the possibility of terrorists or weapons of mass destruction crossing the border using traditional smuggling routes." The Americans say there has been legitimate cause for concern, pointing to the case of Ahmed Ressam. Ressam was arrested in Port Angeles, Wash. driving off a ferry from Victoria, B.C. in 1999 in a car packed with explosives. Ressam, who was eventually linked to al-Qaida, was plotting to bomb the Los Angeles airport. You are a fool...
to try to smuggle BC bud into the US at those smuggling locations. Besides, I recently had a few puffs of some good cannabis from Humboldt county. It's better than BC bud. There is no need for BC bud in the US.I'll take American bud.Ostensibly, the US gov wants to stop the smuggling of BC bud into the US, but it is truly worried about some damn dumb nutcase that is hell bent on blowing up the federal building in downtown Seattle. The invasion of Iraq is not a very popular action in the eyes of some folks around this world. Americans are a hunted animal these days, especially in Iraq.Osama bin Laden and the terrorists are dictating US policy by proxy.
They have won. George Bush is the most hunted man alive.

The only crimes authorized in the Constitution for Federal prosecution are Treason, Piracy and Counterfeit. This is why BUSH keep saying the drug WAR. is TREASON so he can get the (FEDERAL GOVERNMENT) IN to the states.

This sounds like Az. when the DEA killed 2 boys doing target shooting dea-TH said they where runing illegal drugs.
how many Canadian are they going to kill.
The Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Lopez, No. 93-1260, 115 S. Ct.1624, 131 L. Ed. 2d 626,Since the States of the Union ALL have their OWN SOVEREIGN Governments,
separate, AND NOT UNDER THE CONTROL, of the
NOT UNDER FEDERAL CONTROL (enclaves, military bases, Federal building
leases, etc.) (The only crimes authorized in the Constitution for Federal
 prosecution are Treason, Piracy
and Counterfeit.) The Interstate Commerce Act DOES NOT APPLY to activities
THAT DO NOT INVOLVE MORE THAN ONE STATE, so the Federal Government cannot
claim any legal right to interfere with
ANY activity on State (or private) land, in any State in
the Nation. It is up to the State, and State law, to
 address those issues.

That's exactly it, Mayan
"There is also the coming military draft. There will be no way out for those seeking freedom from absolute tyranny."I think this is why this news is coming out, why they are going to try to close up the border. They already filled the draft boards, there are two bills to bring it back, troops from Europe & Asia are being "relocated".Get ready folks, if we go fight Iran, if we pull our troops out of South Korea, what do you think will happen if Kim Jong Il invades S. Korea? It seems like they are going to give him a big opening to do it, too. One of those bills calling for the draft, also says that if you are unfit for duty, you will still serve two years doing community service. Mmmm..Brown shirt included? They want to stop the flood of people who will flee to Canaba, at least through major routes.Hmmm, maybe I should start heading towards the BWCA now. I bet that a kayak/canoe/hike would be the easiest way to get in.If you weren't scared before, you should start getting scared now.We are not free.

No Way Out
Braken acknowledged that thwarting the smuggling of marijuana -- so-called "B.C. bud" -- is a prime consideration for establishing the first unit in the Pacific Northwest. So stopping the dreaded B.C. bud is priority over stopping terrorists? That's because the government knows that they themselves are the terrorists. I wholely agree with observer. This is to keep Americans in moreso than to keep drugs or "terrorists" out. One more "terror attack" and we will see martial law. The Constitution will be suspended. There is also the coming military draft. There will be no way out for those seeking freedom from absolute tyranny.People Against The Draft: way out is the way in...9/11 Truth: Of Truth 2004 - Exposing the 9/11 Cover-Up: For the Truth - Mariani vs. Bush: Was an Inside Job - A Call to All True Patriots: - Inside Job: Prior Knowledge/Government Invlovement Archive:

U.S. prohibitionists
U.S. prohibitionists are, typically, paranoid idiots. This won't stop Americians from using cannabis when they choose, either. This is just another link in the slave-chains forged by the tyrants that now run America. This is a mechanism to marginally keep out pot and terrorists. The main purpose of such a system is to keep Americans from escaping the police state. The new Berlin Wall is going up, and you won't be going anywhere. You will stay right where you are, you will shut up, and you will work harder for massa.
