One too many complications burned the Emerald Empire Hempfest this year: Organizers canceled the weekend event just a day before it was scheduled to open today.Banners at the McKenzie River campsite where the festival was to have been held today and Sunday will inform people who didn't get the word. Organizers also planned an informal potluck to run throughout today and Sunday at Washington-Jefferson Street Park, one of the erstwhile sites of the fest.
Hempfest planners have struggled to put together a festival since mid-June, when the city of Eugene denied them a parks permit because of safety concerns over illegal drug use at least year's festival. While organizers were negotiating with police to improve their security methods, they discovered they couldn't have a beer garden, a significant source of revenue, so they made arrangements to move the festival to a private campground along the McKenzie River. Then they learned county regulations required them to pay $2,800 for a permit, money the group didn't have. They were scrambling to come up with it this week when their insurer told them that they weren't covered for camping, organizer Dan Koozer said. The group hopes to reschedule the event sometime in late summer, Koozer said. The gathering promotes nondrug aspects of the marijuana plant, from foods made with hemp seeds to clothes made from hemp fiber. Those products come from a strain of the plant that has no THC, the ingredient that creates the high.MORE INFORMATIONVisit -- http://www.emeraldempirehempfest.com/ -- on the Internet or call 434-2377Source: Register-Guard, The (OR)Author: Susan Palmer, The Register-GuardPublished: July 17, 2004Copyright: 2004 The Register-GuardContact: rgletters guardnet.comWebsite: http://www.registerguard.com/Related Articles & Web Site:CannabisNews Hemp Linkshttp://freedomtoexhale.com/hls.htmHempfest To Move Up Riverhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread19129.shtmlDenial of Permit Hampers Hemp Festivalhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread19041.shtml

I am a (junk) scientist...
If you want to prevent scurvy, or otherwise improve your health, you can take vitamin C.Vitamin C is the pure active ingredient of oranges. Raw oranges contain hundreds of other unknown contaminants in addition to the active ingredient. Why would anyone want to subject themselves to all those contaminants when the pure active ingredient is available?P.S. Vitamin C is manufactured by large US corporations, who make immense profits and contribute lavishly to the political campaigns of junk scientists...

I educated myself by reading, so did Lincoln...
I was reading about astronomy and space, watching Star Trek, looking thru my telescope and launching rockets when I was a kid. I was a good student until my junior year, then the wrought iron fences and full time policemen appeared at the high school, and kids with criminal records and no ability to read or write got "social promotions" to the next grade. I realized it was useless to be there and I when out and did art for a living. Now I have done animations for NASA and Star Trek and I have retired at 38. I have the working knowledge but I hold no degree. I am kind of proud of that..shrox

.........Shrox.........
We all know that Sander is blowing it out of his piehole.Yes, he may be a result of an advanced education but I guarantee he wouldn't know if it was a left handed, or a right handed screwdriver if he ever picked one up at all.He is a scientist with no common sense what-so-ever.
I've met many of the same kind.In other words, he is an educated idiot who got the impetuous to do what he did in life because of his past. He was probably a well hated nerd all of his adolescent life. Maybe had a Dad that smacked him around for the mere fact that it was Saturday night and little Shrox didn't want to read a book.Unfortunately, people like this sometime make it into political power.Little do they know, their rein is coming to an end.

Antiwar Displays To Hang in New York "NEW YORK, July 15 -- A California public interest group declared victory Thursday in its battle against media giant Clear Channel Spectacolor, ending a dispute over an antiwar billboard planned for Times Square."Yup, right on Times Square, where every New Yorker can see, can you imagine, such a spectacle, an anti-bush statemant, right there in front of everyone, and the bushites are helpless to do anything but whine with a piece of cheese.."The bigger message is, the ability of Americans to discuss and debate the issues is going to be maintained," said Deborah Rappaport, director of Project Billboard. "We are very gratified by that."Imagine that, discussion, now where have I heard that, hmmm, it seems that it was a long time since that word has been used..-gw

Councilman Sander is an arrogant bastard!!
Here is what Councilman Sander wrote back to me, he embodies what we fight against:"I am a scientist. Your statements indicate you are not, therefore this discussion is probably at an end.Marinol is the pure active ingredient of cannabis. Smoked cannabis contains hundreds of other unknown contaminants in addition to the active ingredient. Why would anyone want to subject themselves to all those contaminants when the pure active ingredient is available? As a scientist, in reviewing this literature, I see lots of
speculation, hints and suggestions of useful roles for cannabis -- but no proof of the type that we require for every other drug on the market. The highest medical authorities have concluded that there is little or no role for cannabis as a medicinal therapy.I know that you believe differently, but on the basis of logic and fact, I cannot."Councilman Sander
