The Weenie Roast, sponsored by KROQ-FM (106.7) at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre on Saturday, ended with a total of 106 criminal arrests, 170 traffic citations by the Irvine Police Department, and 75 ejections by the event's private security officers.
Even though the amphitheater's maximum capacity was 15,400, special events coordinator Sgt. Craig Smith estimated that 17,000 people were present. Twenty-eight police officers and 80 security guardsmonitored the event.Even though there were posted signs prohibiting alcohol outside of the venue, most of the criminal arrests were alcohol related, including bootleg alcohol sales, intoxication, possession of alcohol by minors, and driving under the influence. There were several arrests for drugs, including marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine. Although there were a multitude of fistfights, one man was arrested with a felony assault charge when he repeatedly kicked another man in the face with his steel-toe boots, police said. Other incidents includes people hit by various objects and backpacks being torn off the backs of participants. By THUY-DOAN LE
