Gov. Jeb Bush's daughter was charged with prescription fraud Tuesday after she was arrested at a pharmacy drive-thru window while allegedly trying to buy the sedative Xanax.Jeb Bush and his wife, Columba, issued a statement saying they were ``deeply saddened'' by the incident involving their only daughter, 24-year-old Noelle. ``This is a very serious problem,'' they said. ``Unfortunately, substance abuse is an issue confronting many families across our nation.''
Bush asked the public and the media to ``respect our family's privacy during this difficult time so that we can help our daughter.''``We will have no further comment on this issue,'' Bush said.A Walgreens pharmacist called police while Noelle Bush was waiting in her white Volkswagen in the drive-thru lane Tuesday morning, according to a Tallahassee Police report.Monday night, a woman claiming to be a doctor called in a prescription for Xanax for Noelle Bush, police said. The police report said a colleague of the doctor, Dr. Noel Scidmore, said he was no longer practicing in Tallahassee and the phoned-in prescription should be treated as fraudulent.Pharmacist Carlos Zimmerman said Noelle Bush called the pharmacy to ask about the prescription and was told it couldn't be filled because no quantity was given, according to police. Someone claiming to be Scidmore called back and gave a quantity. When Noelle Bush called back she was told the prescription would be ready in about 40 minutes, according to the report.Police were called when she arrived for the prescription.Noelle Bush later admitted to police that the contact number for Scidmore that was left on the pharmacy answering machine was her second home phone line, investigators said.Xanax, a sedative similar to Valium, is typically prescribed for anxiety or sleep problems.Noelle Bush graduated from Tallahassee Community College in 2000 and attended Florida State University during the 2000-2001 academic year but is not currently enrolled, the university registrar's office said. Her mother has worked on behalf of Informed Families of Florida, a nonprofit group involved in educating families about drug abuse.Jeb and Columba Bush had said previously that one of their three children struggled with a drug problem following Bush's unsuccessful first run for governor in 1994. They did not say whether it was Noelle or one of her brothers.President Bush's twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara, have been charged with underage drinking. Last May, Jenna was charged with using someone else's identification to try to buy a margarita at a restaurant, and Barbara was charged with underage drinking. The charges were dropped after the twins performed community service, attended alcohol awareness classes and paid $100 fines. A separate underage drinking charge in April against Jenna Bush went on her record as a conviction because of the restaurant violation. A judge fined her $500 and suspended her license. Politically Incorrect Transcripts for January 29th
Hi Everyone,
Towards the bottom of the link is about the drug war. Here are a few excerpts.
Bill: All right.
In his speech tonight, President Bush was talking about securing our borders from terrorism.
And he said we have to secure our borders from terrorism and then quickly glommed on "and illegal drugs."
[ Light laughter ]
Which I think is ridiculous to equate them like that way, anyway.
And I would let it go on this show, except for the fact that last night his niece, Jeb Bush's daughter --
you heard about this --
Noelle, 24 years old, got arrested at a Tallahassee pharmacy because she was trying to obtain Xanax with a false --
she pretended she was the doctor.
"Hello, I have a prescription for the governor's daughter." And then it turned out to be her.
And the family said today --
Jeb and his wife said --
and his wife, who was also, by the way, arrested or at least stopped for trying to pass $19,000 worth of Paris shopping spree material off without paying a duty tax in the family of integrity.
Anyway --
Jeb and his wife said, "Unfortunately, substance abuse is an issue confronting many families across our nation." Yeah, but most families will not be able to get their sons and daughters out of jail for it.
So it's a little hypocritical to hide behind that, especially when there are rumors about other substance abuse in that family.
And it seems like there is a different America for people who can avoid jail.
The people who are rotting in jail in Texas and then the others in America for --
I have a friend in jail because he has cancer and was using medical marijuana.
Thank God he's locked away.

News Blackout
NBC News carried this story, and the one on Ashcroft and his statue breast phobia.Unbelievably, CBS News carried neither. It stinks of politics. It is somehow unpatriotic to criticize the ruling elite and expose their hypocrisy.

Thanx for the hypocrites link, Robbie!!
The initiative, called "Right to Treatment and Rehabilitation for Nonviolent Drug Offenders," would force judges to grant treatment or rehabilitation to anyone charged with simple possession of drugs or drug paraphernalia."To suggest there should be no penalties for continued drug use is to stick our heads in the sand," [Jeb] Bush said.

NOT a CNN type softball poll
http://www.hypocrites.com/Too funny, and strangely appropriate. So this offense is a felony, eh? Should we have a little poll of our own betting on whether or not the girl will see the inside of a JAIL? I'd bet the farm that she doesn't.

I tried it once and that was enough
My doctor made me try "marijuana alternatives" before recommending pot and Xanax was one of them, and it only took one dose for me to stop. How can people even think rationally on that stuff?Marijuana superstition is so amazing. The mythic psychoactive effects of weed are such legend that we need to enter personal security codes into high tech fetish objects to defeat the demons they might unleash.Meanwhile, the company that makes Xanax enjoys a 9% profit margin and you can take as many as you want right from the bottle.

What Will the Penalty Be
Perhaps our attorney friends could tell us what the usual penalty is for prescription fraud in Florida. This can then be compared with what the Princess receives. Anyone convicted to more jail time then has legitimate grounds for appeal. Is there a mandatory minimum on this one?

What a Mess
She looks totally wasted. You would think that such events would cause a re-examination of the War on Drugs. More likely this will be swept under the rug, and all the hypocrites can continue to wage the war unfettered by conscience or consideration.BTW, Xanax is a short acting benzodiazepine, in the same family as Valium. It is primarily used for acute anxiety, but is extremely addictive, so much so that it is extremely difficult to discontinue. I never use it anymore.

Give Noelle marijuana if she has sleep problems
Xanax is prescribed for sleeping problems but I hear it can make them worse, and it doesn't promote sleep so much as grogginess. And dependence. How much it must suck to become dependent on soemthing that doesn't even solve the problem!Cannabinoids promote deep sleep. This has been demonstrated in the experiment where they gave the cannabinoid blocker, SR14151617 or whatever, to the usual poor rodents who get subjected to these things, and the poor little dears developed deficiencies specifically in delta wave i.e. deep sleep.Cannabinoids enable deep sleep, one can see this from the fact that the cannabinoid blocker disables it.Maybe this is what poor Noelle needs, maybe she could kick Xanax if she got some better quality sleep from cannabinoids.Anyone want to fax Jeb Bush and tell him?:-)

Prohibitionists - the us and them mentality
I'd like to see if she's subjected to the same drug war penalties as her daddy subjects us to. These prohibitions are super tough when it comes to the average citizen.

Jose
I saw that article the other day and decided not to post it. Sometimes I'm not sure but it was about Methamphetamine more then Marijuana and the activist's wife said his sentence was fair. They'll be headed for divorce court more then likely. I wasn't sure and I figured I would just pass. I thought Map would probably post it so I assumed it would be available.
