Barry McCaffrey, the White House drug policy adviser for five years, is leaving his job to pursue opportunities in the private sector - including mulling two job offers from universities to teach national security issues. In announcing the surprise move Monday, McCaffrey said in statement that ``he was grateful for the leadership and support'' of the Clinton administration. His resignation is effective Jan. 6, 2001, two weeks before President Clinton leaves office.
He said in the statement that federal funds to fight drugs have increased and that adolescent drug abuse has fallen since he was appointed to the post.A retired general, McCaffrey has been President Clinton's director of national drug control policy since April 1996 and previously was commander of the Army's Southern Division.Besides the college offers, McCaffrey will also write books, a spokeswoman said.``He has found this job very, very rewarding,'' said spokeswoman Jennifer Pike. Bennetting, uh, er 'bailing out'
Remember when that self-appointed s*****r of wisdom, morality and justice Bill Bennett left the job? He knew which way the sewage was going to flow, and bugged out to spread his gospel even more effectively...and profitably. And just like Bennett, Barry knows that he better leave while he can, as the GAO is snapping at his heels over the propaganda, er, 'media consultants' he hired suing the US Government over money they says Barry owes them.Yes, Barry is staging what you can definitely call a retreat over a 'bridge of silver'. Right into the arms of his tripple-dipping friends. And the only claim to fame he has now to mark the end of government service is that hundreds of thousands have had their lives ruined in this mercenary's hired gunning for DrugWar zealots.

Hey, Doc, you got the job if I have anything to say about it!!!!!! >>``He has found this job very, very rewarding,'' said spokeswoman Jennifer Pike.I'm sure he did, probably to the tune of several million $$.>>He said in the statement that federal funds to fight drugs have increased and that adolescent drug abuse has fallen since he was appointed to the post. The SOB had to get in one more freakin LIE!No doubt funds has increased, but I have my serious doubts about the second part of the statement.
