From Mary Hart's sleek legs to Jennifer Lopez' celebrated backside, the insurance industry has covered some unusual assets. Now the industry is being asked to insure a type of property that once was only valued by outlaws and the police trying to control it. That property is marijuana, and its increasing acceptance as a medical treatment has anti-drug activists fired up.
Seven states allow people suffering from illnesses like cancer to smoke marijuana for medical purposes — which means insurance companies are paying for pot. Because marijuana is still illegal in most states for most people, the claims are causing quite a bit of confusion. "How do you determine the price of medical marijuana?," said insurance expert Candysse Miller. "It's not like you can go on Amazon.com or Buy.com and call up and compare marijuana prices." If medical insurers are confused, imagine the quandary of California pot grower Chris Miller's insurance carrier. Miller, who said he grows the weed for medical purposes, had his cash crop — 17 plants and growing equipment — seized by police. Though the pot was eventually returned to him, the plants were destroyed, and Miller wants his homeowners' insurance to cover the loss. "They're dead and destroyed," said Miller of the plants, adding that the marijuana should have never been seized in the first place. "Now they have no value." Meanwhile, opponents of the medical marijuana laws are outraged, calling the whole business the first step to legal drugs. But unless the medical marijuana laws are overturned, insurers will likely have to cough up the dough. — Fox News' Juliet Huddy contributed to this report. Thanks For The Advice Paisley!

Hi Paisley,I agree that it would be good to put the link to the article on the page but sometimes the url is too long and it makes the page off balance but most of all the links usually only hold for a few days. They don't archives articles like we do here. I did put the links to the article at first and got a lot of broken links so that is why I make sure the copyright and published dates are correct. I was taught that by my supporters at MapInc. I hope this helps explain why it is hard to do. I do put links to articles that the web sites keep the link like Salon and Wired and a few more! Hope this helps explain why I do the things I do. I really wish I could do what you suggest though!PS: I'm glad you enjoy CannabisNews!Peace, FoM!

Why no link?

Most of the articles in the Cannabis News section are wonderful. They'd be more valuable for citations if there were links to the actual original article, instead of just to the various media homepages. For example, *I* believe insurance companies are paying for pot, because I believe the stories on Cannabis News. However, I can certainly understand that other people might be swayed more if they could read the original article at the Fox News site.
