The owner of the farm where the Weedstock festival was held last week has filed suit against Sauk County concerning the raid that shut down the event. Marcus Gumz contends the move at the gathering promoting legalization of marijuana was unconstitutional and he is seeking $50,000 in damages from each county official involved with the raid.
In other action Wednesday, a Circuit Court hearing to discuss the constitutionality of the Sauk County ordinance that prompted the raid in which a dozen people were arrested was postponed after Gumz requested a substitute for Judge Virginia Wolfe. Wolfe had ordered the festival shut down Friday, noting that a newly required county permit for open air gatherings had not been obtained. Todd Liebman, the county corporation counsel, said he believes that the ordinance will stand any challenges. " We did a careful review, and we certainly feel that it' s going to stand up to constitutional scrutiny, " he said. " I think there' s no question about that in my mind at least." Weedstock organizer Ben Masel contends the order to clear the festival grounds in town of Fairfield and the county ordinance are unduly burdensome. He said examples of burdensome requirements in the ordinance include a $1,000 bond to cover law enforcement costs and a requirement for $2 million in insurance. " The industry standard for this kind of thing is $300,000 " he said. Baraboo, Wis. These natzis will crush this lawsuit, and the supreme court will probably agree. I'll bet this police state action was backed and planned by the czar himself. dddd
