With news of Vice President Al Gore's misspent youth oozing up through the cracks, one of his old Vanderbilt Law School colleagues has a question. Did Gore's allegedly habitual use of marijuana have anything to do with his failure to get a law degree?"We smoked more than once, more than a few times, we smoked a lot," Gore friend John C. Warnecke told DCRNet's The Week Online. "We smoked in his car, in his house, we smoked in his parents house, in my house. We smoked on weekends. We smoked a lot."
In fact, said Warnecke, he and Gore smoked pot right up until the VP ran for Congress in 1976. Gore dropped out of Vanderbilt Law the year before. Warnecke says he took his account to DCRNet after Newsweek killed a Gore-pot report based on his account. See: http://www.drcnet.org/Miami attorney Jack Thompson attended Vanderbilt while Gore was there. He's been seeking the release of the Vice President's college records ever since the Gore campaign began making political hay out of Dubyah's "Gentleman's C" average -- information gleaned from the Texas governor's illegally leaked college transcripts. With news that Gore may have been a genuine pothead well into his 20's, Thompson says it's more important than ever that the VP come clean about why he failed to graduate from law school. On Friday, Thompson wrote to Kent D. Syverud, current Dean of Vanderbilt Law, reminding him of his pending request for Gore's records and suggesting, "The time should be up for Mr. Gore to respond, particularly now, in light of the fact that Newsweek (was about to report) that Gore was a chronic drug user right through law school.""Vanderbilt Law School was hard enough while stone cold sober," Thompson told Syverud. "Maybe the fact that Al was a druggie at the time explains why he dropped out." Al Gore and his usage of pot
I would like to hear some more information on this. If anyone out there knows more specifics about exactly what his grades where in law school I would love to know.

must be a student
You would think that by the time a person was in college their would be a reason for him to be their. Voting for a person because he was a "bud" is moronic. Third parties are not going anywhere so get over it. The beauty of a two party system is the majority vote the winner. Clinton had about 50% of eligeable voters vote and of these it was split three ways. The minority elected him.

I'll vote for him too!
I think a lot of people would vote for Al Gore if this were true. But, this article insinuates that it's difficult to be an intelligent pothead. I got two words for that - CARL SAGAN! Instead of voting for a candidate who might have smoked, but has said nothing about legalization, you'd do well to investigate third-party options. A -lot- of those guys are pro-legalization. Check out Harry Browne of the Libertarians for starters. And don't just say it'd be a waste of a vote - 'cause lord knows even a vote for the winner can sometimes feel wasted as well if he doesn't do what you want him to...

Gore's drugs
Sure, Gore "smoked alot" and probably did coke, too. Bill Clinton is rumored to have been a big coke head back in Little Rock. George Bush Jr. is a former weed/coke head. Even Reagan has been said to have smoked marijuana back in his Hollywood days. This should be of NO surprize to anyone, NOR should the fact that all of them want to lock up people for the same things that they themselve's have done. I can see their hypocrasy, I just don't understand how the american people can tolerate it for even one minute. Howie

Who cares?
More power to Gore. Hell I'd vote for him if this was true! Just the fact that such a cool rumor is being spread about him I'll vote for him.
