LouisvilleThe Kentucky Supreme Court is now going to have to decide whether there is a difference between marijuana and industrial hemp.
Actor Woody Harrelson says there is, and he got arrested in June 1996 to prove it. Harrelson was arrested in Lee County after he planted four hemp seeds. Lee County Attorney Tom Jones told the Supreme Court today that Kentucky law makes no distinction between hemp and marijuana. Any version of the plant containing the drug T-H-C is illegal. T-H-C is what gives marijuana its intoxicating effect. Harrelson’s attorney Chuck Beal says there is an economic future for hemp and it is vastly different from its narcotic cousin. Justices heard the case in Louisville today during a special argument at the University of Louisville Law School. There is no timetable for a ruling.
