Eugene, Oregon -- Writer and activist Jack Herer, whose 1985 book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" ignited the modern marijuana legalization movement, died Thursday from complications from a September heart attack that felled him moments after speaking at a Portland rally. He was 70.

Cool, MaryjaneDaly
Your view counter doesn't seem to be working though. Don't be disappointed. People are looking at your work... but the counter isn't showing it.

Jack's last speech
Safer has up Jack's last speech.http://www.saferchoice.org/content/view/1121/9/You can see him pull the passion and the message from his soul as he always did in his speeches. You can tell it was a physical struggle but he wasn't going to be denied one more chance to reach people with his message.....and now.......until real change happens.......our message to carry on.Legal like alcohol.

I will watch the show tonight. I liked the video clip too. Jack would have gotten a chuckle out of Willie saying arrest me.

Jack Herer
I wanted him to be here with us, in the body, well and whole, to rejoice with us.Maybe he was well enough the last few months that he could see over the ridge. I hope so. There will be peace.

Watching the video in comment 5
I was a bit overcome by the huge rush of love I have for Mr. Nelson while watching the Larry King video. Thanks, FoM.I hope I can see that show tonight. We have so many wonderful people with us in this resistance to injustice. I want them here to celebrate with us, to experience the deep joy and relief with us, when the chains are broken.

God, how shocking. He will be missed. If I remember he wasn't in very good health the past few years.

thank you Jack for all you have done

Chapter Three February 1938 - Popular Mechanics Magazine: “NEW BILLION-DOLLAR CROP”February 1938 - Mechanical Engineering Magazine: “THE MOST PROFITABLE & DESIRABLE CROP THAT CAN BE GROWN”Modern technology was about to be applied to hemp production, making it the number-one agricultural resource in America. Two of the most respected and influential journals in the nation, Popular Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering, forecast a bright future for American hemp. Thousands of new products creating millions of new jobs would herald the end of the Great Depression. Instead hemp was persecuted, outlawed and forgotten at the bidding of W. R. Hearst, who branded hemp the “Mexican killer weed, marihuana.” As early as 1901 and continuing to 1937, the U.S. Department of Agriculture repeatedly predicted that, once machinery capable of harvesting, As you will see in these articles, the newly mechanized stripping and separating the fiber from the pulp was cannabis hemp industry was in its infancy, but well on invented or engineered, hemp would again be America’s number-one farm crop. The introduction of G. W. decorticator in 1917 nearly fulfilled this prophesy. (See pages 13-15 and Appendix.)

Thank you, FoM
After I posted, I realized I should have looked on the net first. That's a new expression to me.A lot of people sad about losing Mr. Herer. Me, too. I wish he could have lived, and in good health, to see and enjoy the complete end of this prohibition. He did see a lot of ground gained from the old days, though and lived such a remarkable life that touched so many people so profoundly. He did do a lot of good. When it's all said and done... that's a good thing to have and to have done with your life. Helped. Did some good. Blessed people.
