Sacramento, CA -- A research center established by the California Legislature to look into the possible medical benefits of marijuana is wrapping up its work after 10 years and nearly $9 million.Igor Grant is a psychiatrist who directs the Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research at the University of California, San Diego. He said in a report issued Wednesday that four of the 15 state-funded studies show that smoking pot "is a promising treatment" in reducing pain caused by certain neurological injuries or diseases.
Grant says a fifth project showed that cannabis can reduce the painful muscle spasms associated with multiple sclerosis.Because the federal government considers marijuana an illegal drug, Grant says the center's experiments have provided the first U.S. clinical trials on the efficacy of smoked pot in 20 years.Source: Press Democrat, The (Santa Rosa, CA)Published: Wednesday, February 17, 2010Copyright: 2010 The Press DemocratContact: letters pressdemo.comWebsite: http://www.pressdemo.com/URL: http://drugsense.org/url/8xYE4LxvCannabisNews Medical Marijuana Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/medical.shtml

Some of the studies
they couldn't get enough participants for.

I popped over and took a peek...
Some of the studies only have an abstract- the full results were not yet ready. I think that they are waiting for "the whole enchilada" before talking to the press about them. (Besides, that gives them more time in the spotlight with TWO press releases! lol) I'm grabbing the completed studies for the summer edition of my list. Dang! Things are looking GOOD!

Hope
I wondered that too. Maybe the others haven't completed their studies for some reason.

Or fifteen.
I'm not sure what that situation is with fifteen studies and only reporting five. Were the others negative somehow?

I guess that, though they were funded
for ten studies, they decided it was decided by five. All positive. Nice.Very nice.

I can almost guarantee
that there will still be plenty of prohibitionists denying this truth. Vigorously.

UC Studies Show Marijuana Has Therapeutic Value
UC Studies Show Marijuana Has Therapeutic Value, Reports To Legislature***Published: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in Health & MedicineUC San Diego School of MedicineResearchers from the University of California's Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research (CMCR) have found "reasonable evidence that cannabis is a promising treatment" for some specific, pain-related medical conditions. Their findings, presented today to the California legislature and public, are included in a report available on the CMCR web site at http://www.cmcr.ucsd.edu "We focused on illnesses where current medical treatment does not provide adequate relief or coverage of symptoms," explained CMCR director, Igor Grant, MD, Executive Vice-Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the UCSD School of Medicine. "These findings provide a strong, science-based context in which policy makers and the public can begin discussing the place of cannabis in medical care."Researchers have completed five scientific clinical trials, with more in progress. These studies showed that cannabis can be helpful in easing pain in selected syndromes caused by injury or diseases of the nervous system and possibly for painful muscle spasms due to multiple sclerosis."These scientists created an unparalleled program of systematic research, focused on science-based answers rather than political or social beliefs," said Senator John Vasconcellos, original author of The Medical Marijuana Research Act of 1999 (SB847) which led to the creation of the CMCR.Source: University of California - San DiegoCopyright: 2010 Eureka! Graehstone
It's really good to see you and I hope your health is getting better. I am getting over surgery and finally I am started to feel better. I'm not 100 percent yet but in a few more weeks I should be. I wish the same for you.

Finally back ...
... after having the dickens of a time with a computer virus and personal health issues as well I think I am good to go again, at least as far as my computing needs go that is.
There was a time I could read but not respond and it drove me nuts.
Hope everyone is well ... I have missed you, even though I have been here, if that makes any sense.
