Medical Marijuana Up North

Michigan -- State Rep. Fulton Sheen, a Republican from the western part of Michigan, is a reliably conservative vote on most issues, from opposition to abortion to support for the National Rifle Association. Originally, he predictably regarded the idea of legalizing marijuana use for certain suffering patients as a bad one. But that was before he saw it ease the symptoms of his dying brother. "When I saw the relief it gave him, it changed my mind," he said. As a result, he will vote yes on Nov. 4 for state Proposal One.
His position is the sensible one. Proposal One will not, as opponents have sometimes falsely argued, turn Michigan into a drug supermarket, with "pot shops" on every corner. What it does do is permit doctors to prescribe marijuana use for patients with glaucoma, HIV-AIDS, cancer, and certain other conditions, provided they are first approved by the Department of Community Health. While the state would not get in the business of supplying marijuana, those approved could grow limited amounts of the drug "in an enclosed and locked facility." Qualified patients would be required to get a special ID card. Opponents concede that marijuana can have beneficial effects in some cases, notably glaucoma, but claim that any benefit can be obtained by taking the drug in pill form, something that most sufferers hotly dispute. The fact is that smoking the drug clearly does help lessen the suffering of some patients. Over the last decade or so, medical science has been commendably moving toward a philosophy of doing all it can to alleviate pain and suffering, especially for the terminally or chronically ill; that's what the hospice movement is all about.Proposal One would be a logical next step. Those who claim it would lead to increased drug use overlook the obvious; that marijuana use is, though illegal, highly common in our society. This proposal would merely give sufferers the ability to stay within the law. One added plus is that it is merely a ballot initiative, not a constitutional amendment, and could, if needed, be modified or even repealed later by a vote of the legislature. We urge Michigan voters to vote YES on Proposal One.Source: Toledo Blade, The (Toledo, OH)Published: Wednesday, October 29, 2008Copyright: 2008 The BladeContact: letters theblade.comWebsite: http://www.toledoblade.com/Related Articles & Web Site:Stop Arresting Patientshttp://www.stoparrestingpatients.org/Proposal 1: Medical Marijuanahttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread24265.shtmlMarijuana Helps 1 Man Despite Doctor's Verdicthttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread24257.shtml

Hair dye for men
I think that commercial for that hair coloring for men is funny. It starts off about "The generation that said it would never grow "Old""... and "It didn't", and it shows guys surfing and partying and stuff. At the end the guy that supposedly uses the stuff says, "Never trust anyone over 90".*smile*

The other Obama 30 plus minutes
Clinton and Obama actually appeared to have settled their differences tonight in Florida.Maybe Clinton did it for the greater good.Maybe he did it just to steel some Obama light for himself. He almost always did seem extremely self-centered.Clinton did not revert to his old habit of speaking too long and losing his audience.Obama can say so much more with so many fewer words. That is one mark of a true communicator. Some people use a lot of words and say nothing. Some use a few words and say a lot.Bill Clinton did appear to be willing to try to help Obaama's chances.Maybe they do believe in a common goal. Most times since the primaries Clinton has seemed to be still holding a grudge. It is so hard for 'some people' to let go of negative feelings.Either he has genuinely forgiven or he is just a real good actor.I admire his political skills but it is hard to forget his attitude and the harm he did to the cannabis movement. He also harmed the democratic party by his self-centered behavior and inability to control himself.Equal with alcohol is all I ask.

Noticeably so. He said somewhere the other day that Hilary gave him those gray hairs.

Same here FoM
My finger was ready to press that down button to get to the world series game, but I couldn't pull the trigger. It is really going to feel good when he wins the election. It will be so refreshing to know that we finally got rid of the evil scumbag and we now have a highly intelligent president, who has a good head on his shoulders. A president that can help change the world's view of us. A president that can unite one another.6 days till I check the Obama box in the ballot booth!

conservative guy mini conversion
I’m glad this conservative guy is supporting Proposal One, but these guys never see the light, or have the epiphany, or have the conversion in the road, until the need for medical cannabis hits them close to home. If it was somebody they didn’t know, well then it’s screw’em, let them take something off the shelf, lest the wrong message might be sent. If they see how medical cannabis can help ease the suffering of a friend, or relative, or love one, then it is, “Wow, this stuff really does work.”

My View: Marijuana Offers Controlled Pain Relief
By Nick Bujouves Wednesday October 29, 2008For those unaware of Proposal 1, it is an initiative allowing the personal and protected use of medical marijuana in one's own home through a licensed physician. Registered individuals could grow a limited quantity of plants in a secured, locked location. The patients would have to have a debilitating illness such as cancer, glaucoma, HIV or AIDS to qualify and would be exempt from arrest for possession. Patients may not operate a motor vehicle or any other dangerous equipment under the influence or they will face certain penalty. speaking of 'double entendre' - apparently some people do not realize that 'free' has a lot more meaning than 'non-cost availability'. Free also means 'liberate.'But of course, if you leave it open to a prohibitionist mind-set, 'free' obviously means that all 'children' are immediately going to become 'marijuana fiends' 'ruin their health,' and become 'burdens on society.' The fact that 'medicinal use' in its purest form (untweaked by prohibitionist ignorance) doesn't apply just to 'adults' because children suffer too, seems to be deliberately glossed over. The liberation of cannabis is for all of humanity, and the earth, not just the limited acceptability of the status quo.Apllication of medicine for children is just as viable as for adults, and considering the many failures of the 'medical establishment' to address health over profit -at the true and literal expense of peoples real health and welfare, cannabis offers real alternative to many health issues involving children as well as adults. the fact is
"The fact is that smoking the drug clearly does help lessen the suffering of some patients. Over the last decade or so, medical science has been commendably moving toward a philosophy of doing all it can to alleviate pain and suffering, especially for the terminally or chronically ill; that's what the hospice movement is all about."Funny how the facts seem to conflict depending on the agenda of who is promoting them.If one 'scientist' can claim something is true, and a war against people cultures and beliefs can be created, waged, and perpetuated -based on those so-called facts, and another scientist can refute those facts with actual evidence, who do you believe? Answer; find out for yourself, stop believing in 'credentials' and start being responsible for the information you accept or deny, instead of just scooping it into your brain from the media propaganda and 'published' lies.FREE TAKKOURI FOR EVERYONE
