Wisconsin -- Nearly 300 people gathered on Library Mall this weekend for the 2007 Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival and parade to the Capitol. Harvest Fest has been put on by the Madison chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws for the past 37 years.“The purpose of the Harvest Festival is to celebrate the harvest of marijuana, to keep lobbying for the legalization of this medically beneficial substance and to keep the tradition of the festival alive,” said Gary Stork, director of Madison’s chapter of NORML. “This is like a family — you come to the festival year after year and see the same people and get to know them.”
The event kicked off Friday night with the fifth annual benefit for “Is My Medicine Legal YET?” — an organization promoting the legalization of medicinal marijuana — at the Cardinal Bar in downtown Madison. The event had blues-roots music by The Whiskey River Band and special guests speaking about the benefit of marijuana for medicinal purposes. The festivities continued Saturday with speakers and live music from six Wisconsin bands including Logarythm, Pistols at Dawn with Harissimo, Elf Lettuce, Tate and the 008 Band, Baghdad Scuba Review, and Nama Rupa.Harvest Fest came to a close Sunday with more than 300 people marching to the Capitol to listen to music and hear more speakers.NORML was founded in 1970 by Keith Stroup, with the goal of removing criminal penalties for the adult use of medical and recreational marijuana. Since then, the group has been lobbying for reform in marijuana laws across the country.“The organization feels that marijuana should be legal because it is unconstitutional to prohibit the use of a natural substance, and the government should not have the right to tell adults what they should or should not put in their bodies,” Stork said. “Also, it provides a safer alternative to alcohol and does not encourage violence the way alcohol does.”While there were many at the festival praising the use of cannabis, there remains strong opposition to the drug, including from some UW students.“If they were to legalize marijuana, I feel that it would open the door to the legalization of all other drugs, and that would not be good,” UW freshman Amber Rassbach said. “There are enough problems with drugs now while they are illegal; if they were to legalize them they would be much more prevalent, and it could lead to more problems with drugs.”Source: Badger Herald (U of WI, Madison, WI Edu)Author: Carol PottsPublished: Monday, October 8, 2007Copyright: 2007 Badger HeraldContact: editor badgerherald.comWebsite: http://www.badgerherald.com/Related Articles & Web Sites:I.M.M.L.Y.http://www.immly.org/Madison NORMLhttp://www.madisonnorml.org/Medical Marijuana Gets Heavy Support http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread23388.shtmlMondovi Woman Leads Fight for Marijuana http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread23376.shtml

Lincoln Started the Republican Party
And to be fair, there are good ones and bad ones. It's time that the Masters (the People) corrected it's Servant (the government) by electing rhe next Lincoln (Ron Paul). Pass it along!

I have exposed the Republican true identity!
By holding their name up to a mirror, what do we get?nacilbuper! NACILBUPER! I knew it! That has to be some kind of Satanic name or code! Like, like, BEETLEJUICE or something!I knew we'd get to the bottom of their heartlessness!: )Toke.

The Peace Party.
Ron and Dennis? Dennis and Ron? Excellent, Dude! We'll help them Create the Peace Party! Their platform will simply be: END ALL WARS - END ALL LIES. The only way we will ever have Peace, is if we end all WARS. The only way we will ever have Truth, is if we end all LIES. It can't happen over night, but we have done a great service to Truth at this forum and many others. It's a start. We have done a great service to Peace at this forum and many others. It's a start. Peace Of Truth. POT. Can it get any plainer? Only if the pot leaf really does start dancing and the bud really does start talking. Is that really necessary?Toke.

Even if neither of them win their respective party nominations, it would be interesting to pair them up in some way, I'd love to see them debate one another directly.

My ticket would be...
Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. They would make the ultimate tag team in the White House. But hey, that's just my opinion...

Everyone that reads CNews knows I like Senator Obama but he went into an area that might make me change my mind. That makes me sad. I believe in having Faith but he said something that I felt was out of place. Now I will have to watch more closely.

The only thing that is ok with Romney is he is a handsome man but I don't believe that smile one bit. The video told a lot about his demeanor. That was priceless and I hope it is used in political ads in the near future.

I checked and I had enough bandwidth that I could watch the video since you posted it's length. That was great. Imagine is one of my favorite spiritual songs and the light tower seems like a wonderful concept. I must say this about Yoko Ono. She wasn't liked back when many felt she broke up the Beatles but I want to say that she has guarded John's legacy perfectly in my mind. She really loves him.

Mike Gravel was born in 1930. He's actually 77! He sure is smart though.

candidates ...
I'm sad that Gravel is 70 ... He really IS the best, if what he says is what he believes and what he would do. I believe he does and would, but, alas, he will not get to.on another note ...I'm mostly listening to this very long video, but it has a lot of good footage of historical interest.http://www.trueworldhistory.info/The Money Masters - How International Bankers Gained Control of Americavery interesting but long ... 3hr 35min ...

This sounds pretty amazing
 Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich (Dem):
About the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER
I watched Dennis Kucinich's video and was choked up listening to his sincere and eloquent words.
I was so impressed by a professional politician being on the same page as us.
All my life, I have believed only in grassroots efforts. I still do. But, today, clearly, we are together. That is nice to know.
I have decided to put this on www.IMAGINEPEACE.com and share it with you, knowing that it will be taken in the right spirit. I thank Dennis and I congratulate Ohio citizens for having such a remarkable representative in the senate.
Sending my love to all of you.
Yoko Ono Lennon
7th October 2007Dennis Kucinich talks about the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER in Reykjavik, Iceland, which Yoko Ono will unveil and dedicate to John Lennon on his birthday, October 9th 2007.

I also came up with Mike Gravel even though I really want Senator Obama at this point. I wonder if Al Gore might jump in. I said a long time ago I would like a Gore-Obama ticket.PS: I like Mike Gravel but I am not for people who hit 70 years old running for President. There is a time to retire. Look what happened to Reagan with Alzheimers. When he was slipping who pulled the strings? That is a problem.

find your candidate ...
this site is pretty good, I went in saying I liked Richardson, answered some questions ... and it said I am leaning toward Gravel.figures that the one I most am thinking like is the one least likely to get elected.Try it, you'll like it ...http://www.vajoe.com/candidate_calculator.html

That was a wonderful quote from you. Thank you. Why do they lie about how many people actually showed up for this event? I'm pretty sure they do this a lot. It's like they don't want people to really know. False reporting. For some reason they choose to lie about how many people actually support this. It's wrong. A free press is supposed to be able to report the truth...so obviously, they aren't a free press, and they don't report accurately to the public. They are cowards and they are liars.I'm glad it really was even more successful than our worthless media wants to report, and so enjoyable, too. You and Jackie do so much. You're both amazing...and I'm so thankful for both of you and all you are doing.

way more than 300
The attendance was much more than 300. Saturday, thousands at least passed through the Fest, and many stuck around to hear the 6 great bands.Sunday's traditional parade was larger than last year, with a sound system and hip hop toasting adding a lot of energy. More than a 1000 paraded. There were no reported arrests. It was as if Harvest Fest created a bubble of freedom and good vibes over downtown Madison all weekend. It was a better, happier Madison under that bubble!
