USA -- It is hard to believe that in this day and age someone as intelligent as Alan Mozes could write an article about a study of one single synthetic cannabinoid compound and relate that study to “medical marijuana." First of all, this compound is but one of many cannabinoids that most medical researchers and even law enforcement officials feel should be tested for their efficacy as potential drugs. This has nothing to do with the current laws that permit the smoking of whole marijuana in states that passed so-called medical marijuana laws.
In this study, this synthetically produced compound was injected into the subject rats. Drugs are used either through pills or tablets, injections or even inhalers, not smoked. Mozes did note that even the head researcher noted, “This treatment is not the same as smoking marijuana. Whether smoking marijuana can produce the same effect, we just don’t know.”What we do know is:* The U.S. Public Health Service terminated its smoked marijuana research project when it found there was no scientific evidence that the drug was assisting patients, and it issued a warning that smoking marijuana as a form of medical therapy may actually be harmful to some patients.* Since 2000, the California Center for Medical Cannabis Research has gained approval for 14 trials using smoked marijuana in human beings and three trials in laboratory and animal models. It has concluded that not one of these researchers has found scientific proof that smoked marijuana is medicine.* The 1999 Institute of Medicine report on “medical marijuana” indicated there was medical potential for some of the cannabinoid compounds found in the marijuana plant and stated that clinical trials of these compounds should be done with the goal of developing rapid-onset, reliable and safe delivery systems. The report stated that in no way did the institute wish to suggest that patients should, under any circumstances, medicate themselves with marijuana. The study concluded there is no future in smoked marijuana as medicine.* That the America Medical Association, the American Glaucoma Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Cancer Society and the International Federation of Multiple Sclerosis Societies have all taken stands against smoked marijuana as medicine.Stop adding to the confusion between smoked marijuana and individual cannabinoid compounds found in the marijuana plant. Keep in mind that we don’t eat moldy bread to get penicillin, we don’t chew foxglove flowers to get digitalis, we don’t eat poppy seeds to get morphine and we don’t suck venom from snakes to get anti-venom. The marijuana plant is not medicine.Terrence P. Farley is first assistant prosecutor, Ocean County, New Jersey, and director of the Ocean County Narcotic Strike Force. Scott Burns, deputy director for state and local affairs at the office of national drug control policy in Washington and one of the federal government's drug czars. Horn said Burns congratulated the board for their courageous stand against California state law. What they have just done is to help the medical marijuana patients, by not having to give the names to the D E A from San Diego County.

Medical Marijuana Issue
Medical Marijuana Stand-off Pits County Against State LawSaturday, November 5, 2005In a move that has angered medical marijuana advocates and frustrated state officials, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted this week against implementing a plan to issue identification cards to medical marijuana patients. The move makes San Diego the first county in the state to flatly refuse to implement the state-mandated program and, according to legal analysts, puts the county directly in the firing line for legal action from state attorneys and marijuana advocates.Supervisors, who voted 3-2 against issuing the identification cards, argued that to implement the state law would put them directly at odds with federal laws prohibiting the use and distribution of marijuana for medicinal purposes. They said it would also go against everything they have so far said about the issue."I could be cited, any supervisor could be cited, for violation of federal law," said Supervisor Bill Horn, who has been the most vocal supervisor against the state program. "The card authorizes the use of the product … that puts me in direct violation of the federal law."That point, however, is not cut and dry.The county supervisors argue there is an obvious dichotomy between state and federal law on the legality of medical marijuana use. However, legal analysts were quick to point out that the supervisors are not being asked to legalize the use of marijuana, merely to provide a system by which medical marijuana patients can be easily identified. Moreover, according to the state attorney general, there is no conflict between federal and state law."This isn't about federal law," said Teresa Shilling, a spokeswoman for the California attorney general. "This is about state law. The attorney general has issued opinions to state entities like law enforcement to say that state law still stands."The supervisors clearly don't agree. All five of the elected officials expressed concern that giving the go ahead to a plan that would facilitate the use of marijuana was clearly a violation of several federal laws.If that's the case, federal law wins out."Federal law trumps," said Bryan Wildenthal, a professor of law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. "The Supreme Court has ruled that there's no exception under federal law that would accommodate medical marijuana, even though some states and localities have legalized it under state and local law."Certainly, Horn sees this as an historic opportunity for San Diego County to make a stand against state law. He said the day after the vote he was called and congratulated by Scott Burns, deputy director for state and local affairs at the office of national drug control policy in Washington and one of the federal government's drug czars. Horn said Burns congratulated the board for their courageous stand against California state law.Complete Article: http://www.voiceofsandiego.org/site/apps/nl/content2.asp?c=euLTJbMUKvH&b=359887&ct=1574165

The people don't need them. They are not doing truly good things for anyone but themselves.Amen, Hope!If we liberalize cannabis, the DEA can be transfered to Iraq as the most entrusive military unit in the history of war. Just tell them AlQuaeda is selling pot to children. They might even find that O'sama Binladen is being treated with cannabis. Now that's one sick patient they would LOVE to arrest! Even more than Kubby!Wage peace on war. END CANNABIS PROHIBITION NOW!

Please accept my apologies FoM,
for all this randomness of items in my posts, but the times seem to dictate the war against us is coming to a head on so many fronts. Richard Cowan has once again posted new information. See his play on the riots in Paris at:http://www.marijuananews.com/marijuananews/cowan/latest_news.htmThis is just so exciting! These are times to be celebrated. Rick Simpson
was the Canadian who claimed his hash oil formula cured cancer. His court date was for Sept 26, this year. As far as the media sources I have checked, he simply has disappeared from the face of the earth. Has anyone heard of what became of him? Thank you Sukoi
for your link. This is certainly an exciting time to be alive! So many exciting challenges are facing the world in the last few days. Who would dream that the world, and our citizens, would all be so united against our government? It seems as if the French were not too keen on allowing for the integration of all of their people into all aspects of society. In effect, the lower classes are rebelling. And most dangerously, without purpose. Just a vague sense of discontent, and frustrated violence. Such a scene hasn't come out like this since the days of the French Revolution, at least by my limited knowledge of French history. Arguably, the most confusing history in the world thank you very much Louis XVI! Not the scope of the riots, but the underlying causes. In Ethiopia, it appears that it wouldn't take much of a spark to set off a blood bath. I confess Africa confuses me; my studies were always from the European sides. Moreover, not covered with a great deal of depth either. Africa is a dark continent, not just because of its anger (cause more complicated than just colonialism), but also because our education concerning the continent is practically non-existent.And of course, long live Chavez! This could be the turning point in international affairs. Our shameful policies in Central and South America has helped to create such unspeakably desperate poverty. And their anger now has a voice; Chavez. At least in the southern hemispheres, the citizens aren't afraid to take to the streets when they see the dangers of a theocratic-fascist government. They know the risks. Now, we are beginning to wake up to that same knowledge. Here is an excerpt concerning the eminent domain rule passed by the house. I think you will find it quite interesting!“Although the bill included narrow exceptions to its broad definition, the exceptions to economic development are insufficient and vague. “ This bill expressly preserves the right of power companies, gas and oil companies, and railroad and utility companies to exercise the power of eminent domain for their business purposes," wrote Hartford, Conn., Mayor Eddie Perez in a letter to several Members of Congress. Apparently, states, cities and towns can't be trusted with eminent domain, but large private corporations will be allowed to use this power as they see fit."Note that the provision was hidden, but the dangers were pointed out to all. Those who voted for this provision have voted for federal control over all aspects of our life. Power seems to corrupt all she encounters, doesn’t she?The full article can be found at:http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=56251Add to all this, the Supreme Court case concerning the religious use of drugs, and we have the makings of one hell of a bestselling thriller! Who would believe such a plot though? lol I mention this case because the line of questioning infers that if the drug law trumps the religious freedom rights inherent in the constitution, then we face an outright theocracy. This is why so many religious organizations are supporting the church. Tolerance of other religions is essential to prevent a theocracy, and that point has been made abundantly clear to many people with this case. As an aside, CNN today noted that the peyote use by the Native Americans show no physically or psychologically adverse reactions. In fact, they noted that alcohol use creates 100 times more health problems!
I think the SAFER campaign has struck a chord throughout America. The Supreme Court does pay attention to what the people say, in this case the freedom of religion may hinge upon the repeal of all drug prohibitions. The president of Bolivia, when addressing Bush today, pointed out that Latin America could no longer afford to have so much wealth concentrated in the hands of so few people. These are words of such sobering truth. Were North Americans so bold in our citizenry, they would have never had to be spoken by him.I apologize for the seemingly irrelevant articles, but they all point to one thing: the will of the people is being tested. How will we fare in the annals of history? I can hardly wait for the next showing of “Earth: The Comedy Planet”.Matthew 15:11 – “Not that which goeth into his mouth defileth a man: but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man”. Don’t tell the DEA, but they may have to arrest Christ himself for such blasphemy!Matthew 15:13 – “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.” Goodbye Marinol! DEA
I hate to think about them and what they do, even more so, when I know there are murderers, robbers, burglars and terrorists (including rapists) that will never be caught or stopped. I resent the billions and billions of tax dollars misspent. The DEA are a disgrace as they now operate. They cause infinitely more grief than they stop. They should be using any investigation skills they might have on real crimes against people like those mentioned in my first paragraph and get their noses out of everybody's doctor's offices, medicine cabinets, and lives. The people don't need them. They are not doing truly good things for anyone but themselves.

Sukoi, thanks for forwarding. So frightening. The DEA just keeps growing and growing, sucking in more of our money & taking over more of our lives. It's like an old Star Trek episode where an alien beams aboard the Enterprise and slowly starts taking over the ship. No one knows it's there until they try to do something from the bridge and the controls don't respond. That's what it's like in the USA. Everyone thinks we're all "free", right up until the time that you get sick and need medicine. Or your straight-A kid gets arrested, or expelled from school. Or beaten up by cops. Or loses his financial aid. Who knows what else is coming down the pike? The day when states can ban abortion again looks to be only a few years away. The media is almost totally bought and paid for by the corporate elite. That's the last straw. And most people are totally oblivious.

Definition of insanity or the begining of the end?
If cannabis (not known to have directly caused fatal harm to this date) is not medicine by a definition subscribed to by the Director of the Ocean County Narcotic Strike Force, and Vioxx (widely known to have deadly side effects) indeed satisfies this definition, then we are in fact facing persecution by ideologs without any rational constitution what so ever.

Terrence P. Farley is first assistant prosecutor
Yes ... Hope makes a salient point. Since when do we trust prosecutors of all people, to tell us what is good for our health? Notice the way that "Doctor Prosecutor" there left out any mention of jailing pot users? Par for the course. Seems this "Doctor" has hightly selective concerns for the health of his the patients he "treats" (with jail).Terrence P. Farley is first assistant prosecutor, Ocean County, New Jersey, and director of the Ocean County Narcotic Strike Force.Prosecutors have a big vested interest in jailing cannabis users. plain and simple. He's a bogus medical authority.

Farley is a liar
Farley is one of a small group of prohibitionists who get their jollies from lobbying against medical marijuana. There is nothing in it for him personally, except inflating his own ego. His NJ pal David Evans is another who enjoys keeping medicine from sick people. They supported even keeping it from someone as ill as Cheryl Miller. Jim Miller absolutely destroyed both on a debate on Lynn Doyle's talk show out of NJ last year. They both barely made it out of the green room after Jim tore into them. They were so rattled they looked like fools on the show. Farley, et al, are pathetic.

If he feels so strongly about "smoked' medicine...
he has the right to never use it. He does not, however, have a natural right to tell others they cannot use it. I pray that his government given right to persecute others for such choices is soon revoked.

Could this guy have a stake in the war on cannabis?
Could Forbe's have any invesments in the rivals of cannabis/hemp?
The feds have said in response to weather or not cannabis is medicine, "It needs further rescearch". When touting the evils of cannabis the experts come out of the woodwork.
When pronouncing the great results found in using cannabis,
"We need further studies they say". Of course they at the same time block any further studies and at the same time claim that cannabis is not medicine. Whoa. I think I'm getting dizzy here.

good point FOM
I was going to say the same thing - I've got a cabinet full of tinctures, which are, more or less, the leaves, flowers and/or roots of plants soaked in alcohol. I think Terrence would probably like to take a bunch of big burly cops and tackle Andrew Weil, kneeling on his back and injuring his arms and wrists with metal handcuffs. That is the American Way, isn't it?The real question is, do we all want to live in a country where prosecutors and cops decide what we take for medicine? What does Terrence say about Vioxx? Maybe I should schedule an appointment with him, I took Vioxx for 5 years and I need something else now. Hmm, I wonder how to get an appointment...where does he practice?
