Sir Paul said his drug intake was never excessive

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has revealed he once tried heroin at the height of the legendary band's success. "I didn't realise I'd taken it - I was just handed something and smoked it," he told Uncut magazine, adding: "It didn't do anything for me." The musician said he also took cocaine "for about a year" but was "never completely crazy" about the drug. In an interview published in this month's Uncut, Sir Paul admitted drugs "informed" much of the Beatles' music.
He said the song Got To Get You Into My Life was "about pot - although everyone missed it at the time", and Day Tripper was "about acid". " I was never crazy with cocaine, especially when you start getting those terrible come-downs." -- Sir Paul McCartneyHe added it was "pretty obvious" that Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was inspired by LSD, and other songs made "subtle hints" about narcotics. But the singer said it was "easy to overestimate" the influence of drugs on the Beatles' material. "Just about everyone was doing them in one form or another. We were no different," he said. "But the writing was too important for us to mess it up by getting off our heads all the time." 'Pills' Sir Paul said he felt "lucky" he had not taken to heroin as he "wouldn't have fancied heading down that road". He added the "terrible come-downs" had eventually persuaded him to stop using cocaine. According to the singer, The Beatles started experimenting early in their career - "right back to the Hamburg days when there were all these pills going around". But he said his own intake was "never excessive". "I suppose I learned from an early age to do things in moderation," he said. Sir Paul also revealed that he and fellow Beatle John Lennon had dabbled with another addictive substance during their schooldays - tea. "We'd stuff some Twining Tea in a pipe, smoke that and write songs." McCartney's drug use made headlines in January 1980 when he arrived at Tokyo's Narita Airport for an eleven-date tour with his band Wings. Deported The singer was arrested after customs officials discovered half a pound (225g) of marijuana in his luggage. He spent 10 nights in a Japanese prison before being released and deported. Sir Paul now admits "it was the daftest thing I've done in my entire life". "I was out in New York and I had all this really good grass," he said. "We were about to fly to Japan and I knew I wouldn't be able to get anything to smoke over there. "This stuff was too good to flush down the toilet, so I thought I'd take it with me." He said it was "not too wonderful" being held in a Japanese jail, but he kept his spirits up by organising "sing-songs" with his fellow prisoners. "I don't actually smoke the stuff these days," he told Uncut. "It's something I've kind of grown out of." But he said he was flattered when he was recently invited by a group of Los Angeles teenagers to share their marijuana. "To me, it's a huge compliment that a bunch of kids think I might be up to smoke a bit of dope with them." Got to get you into my life lyrics
Beatles - Got To Get You Into My Life lyricsI was alone, I took a ride,I didn't know what I would find thereAnother road where maybe I could see another kind of mind thereOoh, then I suddenly see you,Ooh, did I tell you I need youEvery single day of my lifeYou didn't run, you didn't lieYou knew I wanted just to hold youAnd had you gone you knew in time we'd meet againFor I had told youOoh, you were meant to be near meOoh, and I want you hear meSay we'll be together every dayGot to get you into my lifeWhat can I do, what can I be,When I'm with you I want to stay thereIf I'm true I'll never leaveAnd if I do I know the way thereOoh, then I suddenly see you,Ooh, did I tell you I need youEvery single day of my lifeGot to get you into my lifeGot to get you into my lifeI was alone, I took a ride,I didn't know what I would find thereAnother road where maybe I could see another kind of mind thereThen suddenly I see you,Did I tell you I need you...

And I would think
I would think that as an amputee she'd be more sympathetic towards pot.

forced to quit
His new wife doesn't want Paul to be perceived as a British 'untermenschen', since the 'Sir' has been bestowed upon him by the queen mum.Gotta put on the dog for all of those British subjects.Too much PCism for me in this world. Act naturally, for gosh sakes.

FoM yes I agree
I think we're on the same wavelength here.Henpecked and without a prenup, that's what I read somewhere. If she ditched him for using pot, he could end up paying more money than I can count.

I read that his demanding wife forced him to quit
It's not much of a secret that his wife is as politically correct as they come and makes him knuckle down. That's why all these rumors are flying that his daughter hates her and so on and so forth. I read that she forced him to quit weed as another of the changes she's making him make in his life with her. I remember all of the articles that ended up back during the Clinton admin in "women's magazines" like Glamour and Cosmo that were all about how marijuana turns your man into a hound who'd rather hang with his buds than establish a politically correct brand of sexual intimacy with you his perfect soul mate who was meant by God to run his life.A woman shouldn't need to control a man to have a relationship with one. That's not where I stand politically when I lay claim to feminism.Paul has had that same anti-pot flag planted in his rear, I'm afraid, by the woman he married.

potpal
Somewhere in an article or on the news a while back Paul McCartney said that he believes marijuana should not be against the law. His new wife is not for Paul using cannabis and he really is a newly wed and probably a little more then hen-pecked. In time he will speak more openly I believe. He has opened himself up for questions now too!

Amplify the music
He said the song Got To Get You Into My Life was "about pot - although everyone missed it at the time", and Day Tripper was "about acid". Everyone wonders what the global song of reform might be? I nominate "Got To Get You Into My Life" by the Beatles in the Global Song of Reform Contest. If I had a potent point marker, I would mark this as a great fact here on Plantation Earth.

Say what...
>"I don't actually smoke the stuff these days," he told Uncut. "It's something I've kind of grown out of." I find this hard to believe.Wish he had stated how much (t)he(y) liked to smoke pot... enough to risk carrying a 1/2 pound across intl borders. And expressed his opinion on locking up those that haven't grown out of it yet.
