AURORA John S. Cook, a 1998 All-Portage County wrestler and Touchdown Club honoree, was arrested Tuesday after police accused him of selling drugs out of his mother's Aurora home.
He is to be arraigned this morning before Portage County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Kainrad.Cook, 18, placed fifth in the state last year as a senior in the 152-pound weight class. He graduated last spring and was not attending college, according to police. He faces two counts of trafficking marijuana and one count each of trafficking in cocaine, aggravated trafficking, possession of marijuana and possession of criminal tools. He remains in the Portage County Justice Center.Cook was arrested by agents from the Western Portage Drug Task Force and Aurora Police Department on Tuesday after several months of investigation. Powder cocaine, marijuana, the hallucinogenic drug ecstasy and an undisclosed amount of cash were found at Cook's home, police said.According to task force project director Dan Fitzpatrick, the agency had served a search warrant on Cook several months ago and turned up drugs then as well.Cook had been indicted last year on drug charges and was free on bond, police said.``We were still buying from him after the indictment,'' said Aurora Police Chief Gerald Dietrich. After the earlier indictment, the task force was able to gather more evidence that Cook was still dealing, Fitzpatrick said.Aurora High School wrestling coach Dick Bliss, who was honored as Portage County coach of the year at the same Touchdown Club ceremony when Cook was honored, declined to comment on the arrest.Cook's mother, who was at work at the time of the arrest, could not be reached for comment.
