cannabisnews.com: Pols Stoke Debate on Medical Pot Use Pols Stoke Debate on Medical Pot Use Posted by CN Staff on February 24, 2004 at 06:58:43 PT By Frank Lombardi, Daily News City Hall Bureau Source: New York Daily News The City Council is getting puffed up about marijuana. After sitting on the shelf for nearly a year, a resolution calling on the state to legalize the medical use of marijuana got its first airing yesterday at a Health Committee hearing. The measure had 13 sponsors before the session, but quickly picked up four more backers during the hearing. Ann Wilson of the Bronx tearfully testified that her brother, John Holmberg, had used marijuana to ease the side-effects of chemotherapy to combat pancreatic cancer before dying two years ago at the age of 40."How can we deny marijuana to our friends and loved ones when it has the potential to ease their pain and possibly prolong their life?" Wilson asked. The resolution urges the state Legislature to make New York the 10th state to enact laws setting up strict procedures for the sale and use of marijuana for medical treatment.Snipped: Complete Article: http://www.freedomtoexhale.com/nymedpot.htmSource: New York Daily News (NY)Author: Frank Lombardi, Daily News City Hall BureauPublished: February 24, 2004 Copyright: 2004 Daily News, L.P.Contact: voicers edit.nydailynews.comWebsite: http://www.nydailynews.com/Related Articles & Web Site:Medical Marijuana Information Linkshttp://freedomtoexhale.com/medical.htmNY Panel OKs Medical Marijuana Billhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread15911.shtmlState Passed the Law, but Never Used Ithttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread9419.shtmlCannabisNews Medical Marijuana Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/medical.shtml Home Comment Email Register Recent Comments Help Comment #6 posted by Virgil on February 24, 2004 at 20:00:49 PT #5 continued I watched the Joseph Cambell series with Bill Moyer on the libraries copies. Joseph Campell studied religion and mythology and wrote a book on heroes - http://www.jcf.org/about_jc.php He would head some national institute on religion once he retired as a teacher. He would work with George Lucas and his heroes that would save a galaxy, far, far away. The one thing the above link says on page 17 in 287 is that anandamide is the sanskrit word for "bliss." The cannabinoid receptors were discovered in 1990 and the natural substance that bind with them were discovered in 1992.One thing Joseph Campell said in the Bill Moyer's series was that if you find an author you like to read several things from him and read who he read. So I did read the book that came from the series and one of Joseph Campell's books. The reason Campell comes to mind is because his tombstone saying has to be "Follow your bliss."In the series where Campell speaks of heroes, he says the next heroes in stories would be those that saved the planet. Joseph Campell never thought that there would be a real hero to come and save the planet, but then again he never thought that a plant could be heroic. The people trying to re-establish the unalienable right to follow one's bliss might well be the heroes that restore liberty to its old definition and save the planet at the same time. This is the only segment I have bookmarked and I need to see if there are more segments. This link goes a long way in explaining how the administrator of the DEA overruled Francis Young and the DEA said it had reached its final conclusion on Schedule 1 for cannabis in 1992. It says Marinol is the only brand name on the entire schedule of narcotics. The main reason I suggest reading this is because it explains better than anything else about the Washington, DC marijuana iniative. It list the DC iniative as just being inactive like it does for Vermont and Virginia and Michigan and Ohio too.It does list some people that used the common law defense of necessity on the state level. It seems like the drug wars changed common law for those mad on prohibition. Now in the UK the defense of necessity has been upheld just last month. I am from here, and I love this place, and President Bush's administration has been forthrightly and steadfastedly permitting our individual liberties -- those very unalienable rights which used to set our country apart -- to erode, and we the people cannot stand for that. Please impeach President Bush. Please save the America that we all once knew. You can't argue with that. Now, quit trying to ruin the lives of everybody that are sick and dying and obey those rulings. There is nothing else that can be done. fini Jiminy Cricketts, you would think that people would have larned by now that the US gubmint has the upperhand in all of this business.Obey, never question authority.People are like sheep. geesh, be quiet, sit down and listen.
