He is still doing drugs

MALIBU, Calif. Actor Robert Downey Jr. was slapped in handcuffs and led off to jail for at least six weeks Tuesday after acknowledging -- again -- that he is still doing drugs.``I am going to recover, but I'm still finding that difficult,'' the 34-year-old Downey told Superior Court Judge Lawrence J. Mira.
The admission came after a series of arrests, failed rehabilitation efforts and second chances for the Oscar-nominated ``Chaplin'' star. The judge could have sentenced Downey to prison for three years for violating probation by refusing to take a court-ordered drug test.Instead, the judge ordered him jailed pending an Aug. 5 hearing to decide what will happen to Downey next. He will be housed in the jail's drug rehab unit. The judge also ordered a psychiatric examination.``There's something I don't understand about you and your use of narcotics,'' Mira said.Downey previously acknowledged he has battled drugs for 2 1/2 decades. After the 20-minute hearing, Downey, wearing a dark suit and tie, thanked the judge and deputies led him away in handcuffs.``Robert Downey Jr. came to court today with his drug counselor and admitted he has a continuing drug problem. He asked the court for help and guidance,'' his publicist Alan Nierob said in a statement.Downey's return to jail comes 18 months after Mira scolded him for bingeing on drugs and jailed him for six months.During one of his many run-ins with the law, he was stopped by police in 1996 for speeding on Pacific Coast Highway, and a cocaine, heroin and a pistol were found in his pickup truck. A month later, he wandered into a stranger's home and passed out on a child's bed.Downey's movie credits include ``Less Than Zero,'' ``Natural Born Killers,'' ``One Night Stand,'' ``Two Girls and a Guy'' and ``U.S. Marshals.'' His publicist said he is not working on a movie now.

What this has to do with cannabis!
How can you not see that the drug war, whether against cannabis or heroin is wrong-wrong-wrong. We are all POW's. Whose side are you on? It is also wrong to turn a blind eye, when it isn't you or your "cause", because we all know that it will be you next. Choose a side or fall. Fight the good fight for justice and fairness. Robert Downey Jr. has fallen again and he needs help to get back up. You don't just give up on any human being. We will all be judged in the end by how we treat those who are disadvantaged in some way. I think addiction is a disadvantage for anyone who has fallen into its grip.

Rant On!
Thanks for Ranting!Marijuana is still a Schedule 1 Drug even though Du Pont said that for a drug to make it into the Pharmacopeia a substance only has to work better then a placebo!Well then why hasn't Marijuana been reclassified since the IOM Report?I'm no lawyer but thats the way the law reads so when will they honor the laws that are already on the books and get Cannabis out of the same class as Heroin?Peace not WoDs, FoM!

Re:Robert Downey Jr.
I was having connection problems again last eve...Oh well I heard this on the radio first but is always so nice to have a printed article. They didn't say anything about his drug counselor being with him, or that he had been seen by the same judge previously...You gain so much more b reading the articles posted here!Whether he could have bypassed heroin I don't know. All I know is that the Federal Government is keeping my med's away from me. As long as the government mixes a message that marijuana is a drug like heroin or crack cocaine, we need to be out here saying that it is not! I am so tired of all these mixed messages the government insists on giving the uneducated public and our children!Robert Downey Jr. is a deeply troubled addict who does not want treatment, and from personal experience there is little one can do 'til one is willing. Thanks for lettting me rant..Shalom,ol420

You Can't Fix Everybody!
That's right Pat! If Cannabis was legal maybe he wouldn't have gotten involved with Heroin but you know some people unfortunately can't be helped and I'm thinking maybe he is one of those people. He probably will live out his movie, Less then Zero. I've seen it before where no matter how hard you try to help someone off of a hard drug, whether it's in pill or powder form, some people will die from the drug use. That doesn't justify locking everyone up I believe. He will die from an overdose or an accident more then likely and that is so sad but you can't change some situations by making tougher drug laws.People just don't care if drugs are illegal. If they are going to do them they just do.Some will die!Peace, FoM!

Hmmm... maybe if cannabis was legal in the US this
... poor, sad dude wouldn't have gotten hooked on heroin, and maybe if he could now use cannabis freely and openly, he could break his heroin habit.Sadly, this is (very probably...) but one single example of the many millions of lives which have been very deleteriously and adversely affected, by our society's "War on a tiny few Herbs and Drugs."When will we US citizens ever learn?P o W [Peace or War] (We're all POW's of our "War on Drugs.")Pat.

Just About The Drug War!
I used the Cannabis News Icon for the article. I said below I posted this because of all that is going on in the legalize movement. Maybe I should have used a different icon. Robert Downey Jr. is a good actor and it's sad that he can't kick his drug habit. I post drug related articles too. I keep it mostly Cannabis and Hemp but the articles are all connected as far as being in the same war, The Drug War.

About The Drug War and It's Futility!
It doesn't have anything to do with Cannabis but with the hearings that just happened it just shows the need for a different approach to dealing with the drug war.Jail won't help him I don't believe.
