Santa Cruz, Calif. -- The city of Santa Cruz is no stranger to left-leaning political firsts and it's poised to add another as the city council looks to become the first lawmaking body in the nation to ask Congress to look into impeaching President Bush. Santa Cruz leaders want to see Bush dumped, charging he misled the American public about the war on Iraq and ran roughshod over civil rights. The council will consider Tuesday a measure that, if passed, would give members the the go-ahead to send a letter of inquiry to Congress.
"You need to speak up when you see evil being done," said councilman Mike Rotkin, who has also previously served three terms as mayor for quirky Santa Cruz. Rotkin insists that it is important to divulge the `truth' about the Bush administration's assertions that Iraq was stockpiling weapons of mass destruction. "We have to know why the Bush administration lied to us about Iraq," Rotkin told the San Jose Mercury News. Santa Cruz Mayor Emily Reilly, Vice Mayor Scott Kennedy and Councilman Tim Fitzmaurice have already signed a draft of a letter to members of the House Judiciary Committee asking them whether any of Bush's conduct equated to an impeachable offense. The city leaders want to know, specifically, if Bush violated international treaties and the U.S. Constitution by invading and occupying Iraq. "I'm interested in seeing what the Judiciary Committee's response will be to our letter," Reilly said. "There are tons of people in Washington who have been afraid to speak up about a lot of things because they're told they're not patriots." Santa Cruz has taken the lead on other issues of national context. A year ago, Santa Cruz became the first city council to oppose the war on Iraq. In April, the city and county of Santa Cruz brought a lawsuit against the DEA and Attorney General John Ashcroft, marking the first time a public entity has sued the federal government on behalf of patients who need medical marijuana. There is a voice on the council that is against sending the letter. That voice belongs to councilman Mark Primack. "We're getting involved in national politics, not national policy," Primack said. 1) bush speech 2)high school
He didn't smirk as much. At one point I thought he might be pissing his pants, just a little, like the lady in the commercial that followed. Really, he looked to me throughout like a kid who had been caught with his pants wet. And the camera shot was not as close up as usual. He's gonna crack. One thing I found odd. He mentioned a terrorist attack on 9/11? I had not heard about this, so I checked on the Internet. There were pictures from two years ago. They were taken in New York City. Shocking. All I can say is that I'm shocked.Wrt high school kids and protests. You're right GCW - they're the ones expected to die for Carlyle Group and it's good to see them protesting. I'd like to see more militance from them though. They're getting royally screwed, forced into a permanent childhood by a GRINDING BORING stupid system that teaches nothing but conformity and submission. THAT'S what they ought to be griping about every day, in an organized fashion. Like maybe "ALL F's DAY." All the kids agree to fail everything. Wait - I recoil from lamentations that begin "if only everybody...." cause everybody ain't never gonna do nothin'. But the bright kids, a lot of them, will go for something like this or better - they'll figure it out. And if they all fail everything for a day or a week, then peer pressure will influence the C students to F's too.****See this month's Harpers**** for a good article on why high schools are such crap: they're designed that way, tehy're working exactly as they're intended to work - keeping kids dumbed down and manageable - programmed for easy manageability throughout life, robbed of their own potentials and true selves. It's a crime bigger than the drug war even. So check out this article, kids, you're gonna relate to it for sure. But don't complain to your teachers about - they're slaves too and don't give a shit. Just educate yourselves - nobody else will. Learn math and english, then follow your nose.Listen kiddies, all ya gotta do is ace the SAT or ACT and you'll go to the college of your choice. You'll do that by educating yourselves and not laboring over crap that's stupid and boring - like my high school offered a "physics" course that was all about musical scales and hardly nothin' else. I got a D in it, F's in some other crap, at least after I wised up and learned real math and shit on my own. My friend and I used to jock out of school and hitch hike to the library in the big city. While the other kids were sweating in class over some workbook, we learned about Camus, Gidet, and while they were reading Huckelberry Finn we read Mysterious Stranger, and while they were wrestling with poems that everybody said were about God, we were laughing out loud with Notes From the Underground.Look, kiddies, get an old SAT, if you really need to, and see that you can learn that crap on your ear. Then educate yourselves - your school wants you either brain dead or body dead or both. And don't forget to have more protests and radicalize your classmates. Fuck school.

An Important Off Topic Article
This article was hard for me to find and I think I should post it here. FAMILY 'FLOWN OUT OF US'
Members of Osama bin Laden's family were allowed to fly out of the US shortly after the September 11 terror attacks, a senior official has said.Even though American airspace had been shut down, the Bush administration allowed a jet to fly around the US picking up family members from 10 cities, including Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston and Houston. Some 140 high ranking Saudi officials were also on the plane. The revelations come from former White House counter-terrorism chief Richard Clarke. He said the Bush administration sanctioned the repatriation of the family in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.'Repatriation approved'"Somebody brought to us for approval the decision to let an airplane filled with Saudis, including members of the bin Laden family, leave the country," he told Vanity Fair magazine.Mr Clarke said he checked with FBI officials, who gave the go ahead. "So I said, 'Fine, let it happen'." He first asked the bureau to check that no one "inappropriate" was leaving."I have no idea if they did a good job. I'm not in any position to second guess the FBI," he said. But Dale Watson, the FBI's former head of counter-terrorism, said the Saudis "were not subject to serious interviews or interrogations".Permission to flyFederal authorities gave permission for the plane to fly.Tom Kinton, director of aviation at Boston's Logan airport, said: "We were in the midst of the worst terrorist act in history and here we were seeing an evacuation of the bin Ladens! ... I wanted to go the highest levels in Washington."Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the Saudi ambassador to the US who is said to have organised the exodus, met President George Bush on September 13, 2001, two days after the terror attacks. It is not known if they discussed the repatriation plan.'No secret flights'The White House has declined to comment on the claims, but sources told Vanity Fair the Bush administration was confident no secret flights took place.Mr Clarke, who headed the Counter-terrorism Security Group of the National Security Council, said he did not recall who requested approval for the flights, but believes it was either the FBI or the State Department.Special Agent John Iannarelli, the FBI's spokesman on counter-terrorism activities, said: "I can say unequivocally that the FBI had no role in facilitating these flights one way or another."The wealthy bin Laden family broke ties with bin Laden years before the September 11 strikes.

Thanks for the assessment.I don't have TV and value input from seeing what is happening on TV.I am glad, if He looked scared. It actually helps Me feel better, introducing a human element in someone I believe may not have a human element. If someone makes mistakes and they appear scared, I have more respect. He still needs to exit.

He looked scared.
He ought to be. I hope some who find themselves here will read "World Lit Only by Fire" by William Manchester. It's all about the drug war and George Bush, 500 years ago. Let us know if you do. There are some answers there, and much to think about.

I didn't get it to work. It wouldn't load. It buffered like something wasn't in sync. I even got the right media player. Changed settings and downloaded IE 6 and I had nothing but trouble. I must say I gave it my best shot but to no avail. Someday the Net will work like we want it too. It has gotten much better. Someday we'll say do you remember when this or that and laugh! I think! LOL!I restored my computer and am back to my good and reliable basics! Much safer and far less bugs on my computer at least.

2 Dems spoke after the speach...
Democratic leaders are not speaking for Democrats. As long as Dems are supporting the president, Dems are just like Him. Dems. are not separating themselves from the pres. which makes Me think they will allow another election stolen. I do not support Dems. that support the pres.We should not let past differences get in the way... yet the past differences He alludes to is no laughing matter. The world said America should not go into Iraq. Bush did it anyway, and now He asks the world to help clean up His mess.Bush is descredited enough that He is not to be trusted. But then Bush never did pass My litmus test... Caging humans for using a plant, including sick Americans, raises red flags, that are serious enough to discredit the monkey to begin with.I will not suport a Democrat running for pres. that supports caging humans for using a plant. If there are more like Me, and they come up with a Dem. monkey to run against Bush, then so be it. Let the worst monkey take it. I mind less if Bush steals the election from a Dem. who would just as well cage humans for using a plant. We need a Democratic leader to speak up for the people. Otherwise We already have a goon and We don't need another.A neighbor who is also a Dem. disagrees with that assessment but I point out then the Dems better get or else they may need to really get it by 2008. Getting back to the highschool students... We need their support... and I don't see them support Bush.

It has me very upset. I don't like when I'm upset. I don't feel good when I'm angry. I do everything in my power to be a positive thinker. It isn't easy and I work very hard at it. Life has become so scary since 9-11 that I just don't know where this is going to take the U.S. I really don't. I don't mean because of another terrorist attack but our freedom. When a people loses their freedom they become angry and will rebel. That's the nature of humanity.

Lehder, thanks.
Highschool students should get involved... and they are. Hopefully more and more. They are the ones likly to be forced to go and kill. Bush did not listen to the U.N. and went to war anyway... now, He wants their help. What a scummy family.Execution. That would be giving Him a taste of His own medicine, for He holds the record of executions as Gov. of Texas. (HIs Bro, da Jeb, is in 2nd place... is it a genealogy problem on a Biblical scale?)I do not any longer support executions for crime. As a Christian, understanding DO NOT KILL, means just that. In the back of My mind, yes, Bush would be a better candidate for execution than most of the people He has executed. Of all the people He executed, I feel comfortable in claiming He has exicuted innocent people.Bush is not innocent. The Bush family is not innocent. We are told to love Our brother and that would prohibit killing Him. DO NOT KILL is not one of the 10 suggestions.Perhaps giving Him the same experiments the monkeys get... but then We should not be doing that to monkeys. It would be nice to prove He is not animal or human but just plaing scum, then We could dispose of Him like diaper scrap. What to do about Bush. I'd like to see high school students accross the planet and especially across all America protest big time against this out of control freak.

COLLECTIVE KNOWLEDGE DOCTRINE
Created by the United States Supreme Court some 20 years ago, the "collective knowledge doctrine", also known as the "fellow officer rule", raises a legal presumption that the knowledge of one officer in an investigation is imputed to all of the officers in the investigation, even the higher echelon officers, even if the higher echelon officers claim they did not know!!! President Bush should be held accountable under this legal presumption. I mentioned this doctrine in the previous article today about those patriots of Santa Cruz. I WOULD LIKE TO LIVE IN SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA!

High School Students Call for Execution of GWB
" I addressed the students by bullhorn on the
illegality of aggressive under international law, as in ratified treaties which are binding under Article VI (2)
of the US Constitution as, 'the Supreme Law of the land.' I quoted from and handed out copies of the
Nuremberg Principles. And called for the indictment, prosecution, conviction and execution of George
Bush for War Crimes. The smiling students cheered in delight at the prospect. "http://www.la.indymedia.org/news/2003/03/33480_comment.phpWell, tonight is his big speech, actually just a little one.
And I am imagining that some of GWB's enemies are figuring that tonight is the perfect night, or maybe tomorrow AM, right after the glorious speech. With more than half of the U.S. available army in Iraq, what if some from George's list of sixty terrorist nations decided to stir things up and see how much thinner that army can be spread? What if two or three attacks are launched by small governments or terrorist organizations on their enemies at once? That's how I imagine GWB's enemies might be thinking right now. And now's the perfect time. And the drug war will unravel along with a lot of other BS. Stay tuned!Well, what if GWB's buddies at Diebold get him "elected" again? Can you imagine!? Just think how sick that's gonna make ya! And a lot of other people here in the U.S. too. No, another term just ain't gonna be respected! I don't know what people will do about it, but, hey, I might even buy my own little tv.

Bush knew about 911 before Sept. 11.He hasn't done anything right. Unless You count the ways He has harmed Our freedoms... as doing something right. If His sidekick doesn't have another heart attack and croak, He should also be charged. The level of disregard for American citizens is appalling.I remember right after His bro helped Him steal the election there was a national consideration that He would try harder to meet the people's expectations,,, what did He do? He hired Walters and Ashcroft. One of them is such a jerk He could not even beat a dead man in His own bid for state senator. But He got a job to crap on Us anyway by the only guy who would allow it. Bush. The name and the family Bush makes Me sick. His attack on cannabis is out of control.I am proud that fellow cannabis activists are friendly, and have not become violent, because of His B.S. We are united, and peaceful. But He pushes is it. Not only does the nation dislike this freak, but the rest of earth does too.I'd like to not have to wait for the process, and would like Him to pack right now.Bush, You don't get it. The people support cannabis for medical use, they do not support YOu. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. You are a killer, You kill Our own people. You and YOur family = bad genealogy.ryno35, don't be a hypocrite. I don't understand How on the one hand YOu can support Bush and other the other hand side with the cannabis issue. You can not have it both ways. And FoM, is right, You will not make friends here, if You have been buddy hustled by Bush. Come back and post, but spare Us Your short comings. We could use Your help in ending Bush's madness.Just the name of Bush may increase drug and alcohol use among citizens. Want to lower drug problems, get rid of the Bush. Please help.If America gets more Bush supporters to get hip and disassociate themselves with the creep, We have a better chance for drug law reform.Bush is the most dangerous man, to earth, alive. He has shat on America. He has shat on Americans.

Bush has used 9/11 to further his own agenda
That is why I'm so mad at Bush. Almost immediatly after 9/11, he started using it to further the neoconservative agenda. How dare he take such a serious and tragic event and misuse it so - make so much political hay out of it.In particular, linking Iraq to Al Queda! I just saw a poll showing that 60+ % of American still believe Iraquis were dirctly involved in 9/11, and 80+% believe that Saddam helped with 9/11! That's why there is as much support for Bush as there is. Bush used every opportunity to link Al Quada, 9/11, and Iraq, and it worked and is still working. We can't have a representative democracy when we are being led by lies!I am very angry at Bush.-Pete

Conservative opinion
I think most of us hear agree that drug prohibition is a complete failure, and the continued war on drugs is having divesting consequences in innocent lives every day. This is not however the most critical issue facing the US today. The most critical issue is terrorism. Although I disagree with much of what GWB has done in office, mainly the liberal social policies he has signed into law, I think he’s on the right track in what is our most important fight, our fight to live securely in the freedom that we enjoy. The fact is that on 9/11/01 the terrorists poked the bear, messed with the 800lb gorilla, and F*% # with the wrong people. I think GWB has done a good job in proving this. And now countries think twice before they harbor and aid terrorism.

Vote to impeach and then arrest for treason
After he is out of office (however that may happen), and people (his own adminstration included) aren't afraid of him anymore, the truth will come out about the totality of his crimes and I fervently hope he will be the first American president to have to answer for them. He has violated the Constitution, and his oath to protect it, the People it is supposed to protect, facilitated the looting of the Peoples' funds and caused incredible and unnecessary death and destruction. Impeachment isn't enough because even being impeached, he would go on to keep making his slimy big oil deals and all that. He needs to pay all the way, by being hauled in front of an international tribunal for war crimes and imprisoned just like any other murdering pig.

This isn't the first impeachment rumblings - there's been MoveOn.org's VoteToImpeach website for a while now. I voted for it - Bush is the worst thing that has happened to this country since I can remember. (Disclaimer: I was born during Watergate, but I don't remember Nixon as president.) actually...
Martin Luther was quite a genius, a master of languages and the author of some 40 hymns, music and words. He could even spell: APOSTLE (i think). thank you. good night. ( Tom M. APOSTOL is the author of the two volume book on caluclus that was, at least formerly, used for a freshman course in calculus at Calif. Inst. of Tech. for kids who did not already know that subject, which, bythe way, was well known to Thomas Jefferson who applied it to designing an efficient plow, unlike our present president who does not know calculus or physics[Jefferson had also mastered basic Newtonian physics]. The local librarian in a nearby hick town rejected my donation of these books which I had intended to fill a very grave deficiency in their collection, now still lacking any book whatsoever from which kids can learn - and discover for themselves while browsing - calculus. Her reason: the publishing date was "too old" despite the book's nearly mint condition. I could not force it on her with any argument, but she allowed that she might consider exposing the townspeople to a book on "pre-calculus", whatever that is - nothing, i suppose beyond her part of a wider campaign of dumbing down. No wonder I can't fucking spell.)"I do not admit that anyone is competent to judge my works, not even angels." -- Erasmus

2 books
"I am at a loss to tell if the Pope is Antichrist or his apostol." -- Martin LutherIf your looking for a good read, try World Lit Only by Fire, by William Manchester, better known for Death of a President. The first mentioned, in its presentation of the genesis and history of the Reformation, illuminates many aspects of our drug war from a 500 year perspective. Marc Emery, to a somewhat lighter but very real extent, reminds me of Martin Luther - but there are many parallels in this history that would be productive for activists to consider, and Manchester is a very good writer who provides many colorful quotes and episodes. Try it.The second book, well...Texas. I was thinking flippantly as I read this one how our troubles can be traced to John Tyler who was the first vice president to be thrown into the highest office by the death of the first president, Harrison, to fall under the 20-year Indian curse. Tyler is noted for only two things: decimation of the Seminoles and the annexation of Texas. In 1960, Kennedy was elected under the Indian's curse, then felled by a Texan and succeeded by another Texan who brought us Vietnam. History is simple.Anyway, reading these two one after another, I've had a belly full of both Texas and of Christians. And I've for sure had a belly full of Christians from Texas. Impeach!

I'm looking forward to seeing this impeachment movement succeed, as the next election will be stolen again, if bush has anything to do with it.
