It's time to change the climate around medical marijuana in California Change the Climate has launched an outdoor advertising campaign in the bay area of California to protest the federal government's handling of medical marijuana issues and to educate the citizens of the United States about the federal government's assault on medical marijuana patients and their caregivers. The law also protects caregivers and doctors who are assisting patients.Since the passage of Prop. 215 the United States Justice Department and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have showed total disregard for this law and trampled on the rights of voters in California. People with cancer, AIDS, and other serious ailments who use medical marijuana to help ease their pain and suffering are being aggressively pursued and prosecuted by the federal government. Federal judges overseeing many of these cases are forbid people being prosecuted from making any mention of Proposition 215 or medical marijuana to the jury -- effectively making them look like "drug kingpins".It's time to change the climate in California around medical marijuana. These seriously ill patients need to concentrate on their health and not worry about being prosecuted in federal court for taking a medicine recommended by their doctor. More importantly, the federal government needs to show respect for the will of California voters and bring an end to these senseless raids and arrests. Finally, jurors in medical marijuana cases should understand their right to vote their conscience -- a right that has been part of our judicial system since the founding of the republic.Complete Title: Medical Marijuana: Change The Climate Begins Advertising in CaliforniaSource: Change the Climate (MA)Published: March 3, 2003Copyright: 2003 Change the Climate, Inc.Contact: info changetheclimate.orgWebsite: http://www.changetheclimate.com/DL: http://www.changetheclimate.com/campaigns/03_03_ca/Related Articles & Web Site:Ed Rosenthal's Trial Pictures & Articleshttp://freedomtoexhale.com/trialpics.htmJuries and Judges What's Relevant? http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread15606.shtmlThe Feds vs. Ed Rosenthal - Counter Punch http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread15383.shtmlJurors: We've Been Had - San Francisco Examiner http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread15381.shtml

Asa -- Rosenthal Trial Spurs National Outrage Rosenthal Trial Spurs National Outrage New “Change the Climate” Billboard Campaign Challenges Jurors, VotersOAKLAND, CA –Responding to outrage over the recent conviction of Oakland medical marijuana provider Ed Rosenthal and to the many upcoming medical marijuana trials, national advocacy group Change the Climate, Inc. is installing 150 billboards around the Bay Area. The billboard campaign is endorsed by Americans for Safe Access (ASA), who will be holding a press conference with Rosenthal March 6, 2003 at 11am at 36th and Market in Oakland, CA in front of one of the billboards.“These billboards make it difficult for both the public and politicians to ignore the plight of medical marijuana patients and providers. The more the federal government persecutes, the more national support develops,” says ASA Director Steph Sherer. The first of the red, white and blue billboards exclaims “Free Ed. Free the Jury. Free America.” Jurors in Rosenthal’s case were not allowed to hear the phrase “medical marijuana” and were uninformed about jury nullification. The other billboard reads, “Vote your Conscience. Free America.” “Californians who care about medical marijuana have to vote their conscience in the ballot box and the jury box. These billboards help to remind people of their rights and responsibilities,” Sherer said.“We want to drive home the point that Attorney General John Ashcroft’s assault on medical marijuana laws California voters enacted violates our fundamental freedoms. We hope to encourage jurors and concerned citizens to take appropriate action,” said Joseph H. White, Executive Director of Change the Climate. On March 3, Medical marijuana activists in Washington, DC, took appropriate action and protested Democratic Presidential Candidate, Former-Governor Howard Dean, the only candidate who has killed medical marijuana legislation. “Americans for Safe Access is going to hold the 2004 candidates accountable. We have an obligation to inform voters on the candidates’ positions,” says DC ASA Field Organizer Adam Eidinger.WHO: Americans for Safe Access, medical marijuana provider Ed Rosenthal, and others WHAT: Press Conference on Nationally-Organized Bay Area Billboard Campaign WHERE: 36th and Market, Oakland WHEN: March 6, 2003 at 11 am* GreenAid -- http://www.green-aid.com/* ACLU of Northern California -- http://www.aclunc.org/* California Chapter of NORML -- http://www.canorml.org/* Americans for Safe Access -- http://www.safeaccessnow.org/* The Coalition for Medical Marijuana -- http://www.medicalmj.org/More information is available at: http://www.changetheclimate.com/campaigns/03_03_ca/
