Californian Dennis Peron packed the necessities for his vacation to southern Utah: a sleeping bag for campouts, his dog for company -- and a stash of marijuana he says he uses to treat his alcoholism. Peron, founder of San Francisco's Cannabis Cultivation Club, was stunned when Cedar City police objected to the marijuana last week and seized it, and arrested him and his friends and booked them into jail.
"They overreacted. They should have given me a ticket," insists Peron, 55. "They should have let it go." Now Peron promises to bring his campaign to legalize marijuana for medicinal use to Utah as he fights charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. It is a natural step -- Peron drafted the 1996 California proposition that legalized marijuana for medical use, and his club was created to grow it for that purpose. "I'm going to make some noise," Peron said this week in a telephone interview from San Francisco. "It's about time someone fought for dying patients." Peron says he is worried that seriously ill tourists who attend the 2002 Olympic Winter Games -- and bring their medical marijuana -- will be "brutalized" by their Utah hosts in February. But Deputy Salt Lake District Attorney Kent Morgan says prescriptions for marijuana are not valid in Utah or anywhere, after a May decision by the U.S. Supreme Court held there is no exception to federal laws that forbid people with cancer, AIDS and other ailments to use marijuana. Eight Western states, including California, Nevada and Colorado, have medical marijuana laws on their books. "You're right; there's no exemption in Utah," Peron concedes, but adds he is looking for a Utah lawmaker to sponsor a medical marijuana law. Meanwhile, he says, he will bring the California physician who prescribed marijuana to him to testify during his preliminary hearing. He faces up to 5 years in prison if convicted of drug possession. Peron and three friends were heading for Zion National Park when they checked into a Cedar City Motel 6 on Nov. 14. Police arrived at about 9:45 a.m. after receiving a tip that marijuana smoke could be smelled in the hallway. Police found nearly a pound of pot in the hotel room and vehicle, Cedar City police Sgt. Dave Holm said. Officers also seized more than $4,500 and charged his companions with possessing marijuana and paraphernalia. Peron says he had, at most, 3 grams of raw marijuana and a sackful of pot-laced dessert. "They're weighing the brownies," he laments. After that night in jail, the group posted bail and headed west. Peron is due to return for his arraignment in December and says he may just check out Zion National Park along the way. It's good to see you post again. I was worried because of the registration problem. That makes me feel good to see it's fix and welcome back.

Dennis Peron continuing the fight!
I learned from the best. Yeah, that's right ....the best.
I apprenticed at the CBC in San Fran with Dennis Peron.
You could have wrote a movie script from the adventures we had at that club and the parties Dennis threw!.
I was one of the lucky few with full access and was actually following Calif. law in supplying Dennis with the best buds his money could buy. He was my first and by far largest account and he taught me the whole business. Thanks Dennis! I am following your urging and still operating the only public medical marijuana servicer in Hawaii. We have a unique blend of medical state's rights AND federally mandated religious liberties! It works and it's real. Wonderful to hear Dennis is still fighting mad and ready to do something about it. I am following his example and running for Governor here in Hawaii! Wish us luck and support us with your prayers and donations to Rev. Jon Adler Box 742 Hilo, Hi. 96721 Peace. btw
E-Johnson: (#10), the gateway drug theory swings both ways. Cannabis is noted for also helping hard drug addicts get off crack etc.goneposthole (#5), When John Ashcroft vowed to Congress that he would uphold the law... If he IS a Christian, he is to support the law of Christ God including the words on page 1. He has chosen mans laws over Christ Gods law, a mistake. He may be described in 1 Tim. 4:1-5. Maybe this is more important than we think
It's going to be really interesting to see someone argue in public that marijuana is a treatment for alcohol abuse. At first I thought this was a questionable tactic because it could make us all look stupid. It's not like AIDS or cancer. But gee marijuana does have an effect on the desire for alcohol. I experience this myself. I almost never drink wine any more. Not because I needed to drink less or wanted to drink less. It just kinda happened all by itself. How does that just happen? That's interesting. I used to be really into wine and now I don't care about it any more. In fact it's embarassing when I have friends stop by because I always forget to stock up on wine for them. My cupboard never used to be bare but for some reason the big priority I used to place on having good wine within an arm's reach has disappeared. So maybe this argument would play in Utah. If they can gets some science or something to back it up.But what is the science? Other intoxicants don't remove the desire for alcohol. Why does marijuana do that? Another strange mysterious function of the cannabinoids I guess.Clever little molecules.

A Yacht is right
Who knows? When Noah built the Ark, all of the heathen hypocrites came out everyday to watch Noah go about his constructing the huge ark in the middle of nowhere far from any sea or ocean. They would all laugh and make fun of him throughout the day. So the story goes, I guess.Anyhow, I guess if Armegeddon is on the way, being prepared for a flood won't help much either.I'll call my ark the Apochrypha. The jokers that are running this country are laughing at us all of the time and making good fun. They haven't the slightest idea of what they are doing, the inundating political flood that is coming will hit them blindsided that is for sure.Go to the Green Panthers site. They are predicting a forty fronted civil war. I for one will see none of it. I certainly won't submit to that kind of BS. As the generals found fault in the peace movement for the Viet Nam defeat, when in reality it was all an undoing wholly on their part, so will the war on drugs be an undoing of how the US Govt has been conducting itself. They have been blaming the marijuana movement for the numerous ills we presently endure, when in reality their recalcitrance and sloppy handling of public domestic policy is what is truly at fault. "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." A call for gopher wood is just kind of a warning to all of us that our lives are becoming topsy turvy
because the US Govt. refuses to listen. The WTC disaster, the anthrax mailings are in someway
set apart from foreign policy. Hah! To use bio-warfare on Irag, North Korea. etc is Ok. To attack their agricultual base and/or public water supplies is not a wise course of action. The American public is now suffering the consequences of the actions by the biophobes. Peace and God bless Afghanistan, too.

Dennis Peron and john wayne
"It's about time someone fought for dying patients."- Dennis PeronWell, we know the Great Pharisee,John Ashcroft, is not going to fight for a dying patient, He is going to fight to uphold the great and mighty law of the ruling USG. It is so special. Now we come to john wayne, Ashcroft's Jesus and your Jesus kicking some ass.I may not be a pilgrim, but I am a sailor who speaks for himself.Maybe Jesus' Ashcroft is Jesus' Judas. John Ashcroft might ot think of it that way. When John Ashcroft vowed to Congress that he would uphold the law, respect stae's rights and all that other goobledygook, he also gave them a great big smooch on their cheek, their butt cheek. They turned the other cheek and he kissed that one, too. It was so special.Little did they know that it wasn't a kiss of submission but one of betrayal, just like Judas did to Jesus. Except Judas wasn't about to kiss Jesus' buttcheeks when he did so. He had plenty of foolish pride. It is ever so easy to hate, to accept hate. To seethe with anger towards someone or some group with whom you cannot see eye to eye. It is very difficult to accept love. It is extremely difficult to reject hate.So if Ashcroft's Jesus is kicking your jesus' ass, the passionate urge to kill won't come from God. The proactive stance is to love with all your heart and all your soul. An extremely difficult task to accomplish. Dennis Peron must do that before he can win the fight for dying patients.

Happy Thanksgiving to you. I misplaced my glasses and only found them recently. I can see again! Yea!We are making progress and that is good. Since the 11 of September it has been hard but maybe if we can just hang on and not lose hope we can get Cannabis laws reformed.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Although this has been a rough year so far, there are still lots of things to be thankful for. This site is one of them. And the people who come here, who built it, who keep it going, and who give it life.I am also thankful that the tide seems to be turning, the walls are cracking, the winds of change are blowing, and a warm front is coming in. Although it is still very cold where I am, things are changing. People are starting to come out of the closet, even the journalists at major publications.Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there."Don't worry about people stealing an idea. In a way Dennis Peron is one of my inspirations
Back in May of 96 my son died of AIDS and I didn't have a computer until that fall. Then I remember seeing Dennis Peron, http://www.marijuana.org/ and his pushing for Prop 215 and it was so touching to me that I started looking for ways I could help and now years later here we are. I respect Dennis Peron and know he'll make things happen once again.

"PATRIOTISM"
Hello, I would like to share some patriotic quotes with all the people out there in CannabisNews land.Nationalism is our form of incest, is our idolatry, is our insanity. "Patriotism" is its cult. It should hardly be necessary to say, that by "patriotism" I mean that attitude which puts the own nation above humanity, above the principles of truth and justice, not the loving interest in one's own nation, which is the concern with the nation's spritual as much as with its material welfare--never with its power over other nations. Just as love for one individual which excludes the love of others is not love, love for one's country which is not part of one's love for humanity is not love, but idolatrous worship....Eric FrommPatriotism is a pernicious, psychopathic form of idocy.......Geroge Bernard ShawPatriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel..Samual JohnsonNo matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of Patriots...Barbara EhrenrichMy county, always wrong.....Student Slogan"It's about time someone fought for dying patients and I'm going to make some noise"...Dennis Peron
