FBI Steps in to Help Relieve Officers in Michigan

A standoff with the owner of a Michigan campground known for its advocacy of marijuana entered its fourth day, with police enlisting the help of a third-party negotiator and with the FBI stepping in to relieve officers. The campground's supporters gathered near the site Sunday as police worked to end a standoff that has involved shots being fired at a news helicopter and police plane. "The word is out about what's going on," said Shirley DeWeese, whose brother, Grover T. Crosslin, owns the southwest Michigan campground called Rainbow Farm. "If they do kill him, it's not going to be the end."
Neighbors said Crosslin, 47, who faces drug and weapons charges, was burning buildings on Friday on his property, which is the target of civil forfeiture proceedings. Deputies went to the farm after hearing about the fires.Police did not know who fired the shots that whizzed by an unmarked state police plane Saturday and struck the tail of an Indiana television station news helicopter Friday. Both landed safely. The FBI said Sunday night that federal agents would relieve officers from the Michigan State Police and Cass County Sheriff's Office, who have been at the site. Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. said Crosslin has made no demands."It is the goal of all three agencies to resolve this matter peacefully," said John Bell Jr., special agent in charge of the FBI's Detroit office.Officers did not identify the third party assisting in the negotiations.Sheriff's Lt. Lyndon Parrish believed Crosslin was upset over a $150,000 bond revocation hearing he skipped Friday. The hearing was set because authorities believed he was violating terms of his release on charges of felony firearm possession and drug charges.Dori Leo, who identified herself to the South Bend Tribune as Crosslin's attorney, said her client was upset because a child he helped raise was placed in foster care following the charges.Crosslin and five others were arrested in May after a two-year investigation into allegations of marijuana use at the campground, just before it was to host a weekend event promoting marijuana legalization.A statement on Rainbow Farm's Web site says it "supports the medical, spiritual and responsible recreational uses of marijuana for a more sane and compassionate America."About a mile away from the campground, about a half-dozen people displayed placards in support of Crosslin and Rainbow Farm."We were hoping for a peaceful resolution and they're bringing in choppers and artillery," said DeWeese. Winston and all others concerned
ok ill admit that i lost my top it just enrages me what has happened, so to answer your question: im a writer so therefore i will go against this enemy with everything ive got using my mind! not guns not violence but by writing my screenplays and movies and revealing the hidden truths that most all of us cant even see. So nobody be scared ill only go to the armory if another civil war breaks out, but then again these days the war is with politicians and words. So chances are that i wont ever have to play my hand, at the very least i hope not.Sorry if i offended any of you out there who cant distinguish the difference between thoughts and actions. The Raven

Get up, Stand up, Stand up for your right.
In order to bring more media attention to this tragedy we need to make a lot of noise. We need the likes of Gary Johnson, and Normal to attend the funerals and deliver the eulogies. We need to have thousands of people attend the services, so many people it overcomes the place, just like the police and firemen do. If this could happen the media cannot completley ignore this. If we get more media attention it can possibly help to educate the ones who need it. E-Mail Gary Johnson's office, and Normal, lets try to get them there. I will make several posts of this comment. Do not be angry or surprised if you see this again. I will post it in other places. Get up, Stand up, Stand up for your right.

You have been givin a gift, use it. I too am an old rock-n-roller. I've seen this big brother stuff for way to long now. I remember when they tried to ban rock & roll music from the US. I also remember when Ed Sullivan defied the status quo and televised Elvis Presley. It is time to change the law, IT CAN BE DONE. In the future I will post under the name of Rock-N-Roller. Out of respect for FoM, I won't say anything negative about you. You are right however about the "strawman" tactic. Something I learned from my government and the press! Care to have a serious conversation? Before we start, I insist you take a lie detector test, provide a strand of hair and piss in a cup. Just to be sure you are not under the influence of dope.

The News. Brought to you by Prozac and Paxil
I used to think, when I was younger, that the reason that 90% of the ads during the news were for medication, was because the news was full of bad news and anyone who watched it regularly could probably use something to make them feel better. Now I'm more prone to believing that the news is sponsored by the drug companies in such a major way so that they can exert their influence over certain stories in the news broadcasts themselves. "Don't put drug-law reform in too good a light or we'll lose Pfizer's sponsorship!" If this is true, it's more indirect than the ONDCPayola, and thus harder to counter. You'd think, with at least three 24hr news networks, they could find a lot of compelling stories of governmental abuse in the drug war... but in general, they don't. By the way, Richard Cowan said they were thinking about syndicating the Marijuana Headline News to radio stations around the country. I urge you to call or write your local cannabis-friendly radio stations and urge them to add the news to their format!

Epilogue.....Epitome
Take it easy FoM,,,dont let this frenzy of comments get you down, tomorrow things will calm down, and all of this wild bickering, andheated exchanges will be reduced to embers in the morning.....and these intense events are good in a way.Winston is going to do some more studying, and that's a good thing,,,,and I'll try not tomake any more waves.nottelling,,,I really appreciate your compliment.I never thought ofthis as "what I do",,but I guess that's what it is,,and you inspire meto do more of it.I'm just an old Hippie who lives in a shack-like studiowith my little white dog. The events of this Labor Day weekend have given me a renewed vigorin one of my pet causes,,and that is the government/corporate takeover, and domination of the press....I wrote the following earlier this eveningconcerning the coverage of the Crosslin MURDER!;....OK,,,,now I'm sure,,,,now I'm way more pissed off than before. The 10:00 news in LA had Nothing about this incident! They hadshark attacks,,memorial bits about the cop who died prior to thefriday barbeque of the guy who got raided by the ATF,,,coverageof the free rock concert in downtown LA,that was cancelled at thelast minute by authorities, and the remarkable rioting, and lootingof all the bands equipment that ensued,,(probably a publicity stunt)......then,,speaking of publicity stunts,,I almost power barfed,as picturesof freekun dubya came on,,,with him helping out some constructionfactory workers bullshit......I got so agitated,I yelled at my dog,,that'sthe equivilent of a red alert, which means that I may blow my ticker,or experience a freak out of some sort,,I had to shut down the TV,,,,,apologize to my dog,,and take him for a walk,,,,,,Anyway,,there was ZERO news about this federal murder on the newsat ten.I'll be back by 11:00.The question is;Why is this not "news"?Why is a fatal shooting bythe FBI,not an item worthy of coverage?...Is the possibility of JanetReno running for governor of Florida somehow more important andsignificant than the FBI popping off a round into a guys forehead?....Is it just me,,or does something really smell bad here?(if you were"here",it could be me,but that is stinkyness,,not smell).......The 11:00 national news had no mention of this incident either. How can this be explained?...There's no way that the press hadn'tgot a report of the incident yet......Was it somehow insignificant, and uninteresting enough to not be mentioned? Was the latest sharkbite more important than the FBI shooting someone in the forehead? Anyway,,,The absence of any reports concerning the Crosslin murdersorta made me snap.It is now way too obvious that the press is definitlybeing universally manipulated by some very huge entities,,,and the onlypossible suspects, the only entities that would be big enough to weild thislevel of influence, are _________________?May JAH Shine brightly on Everyone,,,,even Winstond......plus three more...........=4

I get it, Winston
If this hasn't already been mentioned before, Winston Smith is the name of the main character of George Orwell's '1984'. This character goes from a non-thinking cog of the totalitarian government to a rebel and in the end, due to government scare tactics and torture, "returns" to his senses and becomes once again a tool of the government. So how is it, Winston? Are you a satirist or an open tool?

Another Patriot
Another patriot, like the Minute Men, like the people involved with the Boston Tea Party, like Paul Revere. Yes these are just a few men that put lives on the line so we can have freedom. Freedom also for people that with the thinking of our lost souled brother, Winston. We should feel bad for people with the "Winston mindset" and try to educate them. Although this is a very tall order, I have tried it, and on occasion suceeded. It is very hard to do, and I will not give up. dddd is good at what he does, we can only hope that his words are heard well beyond this board where they need to be heard, all the way to congress. We have the numbers, they have the guns. The pen can be mightier than the sword, history shows, when applied properly.

He didn't do it with violence (he wouldn't have been able to have the profound effect he had if he'd used violence; with violence he would have been just another shouting guy) and he didn't wave guns around to prove his manhood or toughness or how much he meant it (and cops *did* get in his face with their guns and they did cart him off to jail). You are a nazi too. "Get rid of the dopers and you could get hemp legalized in a few days. Hitler probably thought things through like you, "get rid of the Jews and extermination gas chambers would be legal in a few days."I think that's called a strawman argument. If you say, "seat belts save lives" I can distract ppl. from the point of your statement by saying, "Hitler would have insisted ppl. wear their seat belts" in the hope that the association with Hitler would invalidate anything I had to say. Instead of distracting yourself by trying to come up with these hysterical ad hominem attacks maybe you should try and engage in an actual conversation, reasonably. Yes?

U.S. Patriot murdered. (NBC,ABC, CBS Blackout?)
Tom Crosslin reminds me of the American Patriot Patrick Henry who said, "Give me liberty or give me death" (You can follow a link to the statement at http://libertyonline.hypermall.com/henry-liberty.htmlAmericans are losing the right to free speech and the right to bear arms. Prison populations are 6 times greater in the U.S. than other industrialized nations. Now DEATH AFTER DEATH for a drug war gone awry the secret police, or the S.S. of the U.S. as I call them, are zeroing in and taking their score. Pity America. It is time to organize and act. May your future meetings go well at your next permanent farm. I think I may start a campground and invite G. Gordon Liddy to run his anti-anarchist group as an adjunct facility. Americans are losing the right to free speech and the right to bear arms. Prison populations are 6 times greater in the U.S. than other industrialized nations. The government has ways of pushing people until they go over the line. I pity the poor man who was killed and honor him.Contrary to popular belief, you are guilty until proven innocent if you are a common man in America. Vote Libertarian or Social Democrat. Corporations are whores, governments are their whips, and U.S. unions are the handles to the whips. Welcome to AmeriKa 2001.I think I may start a campground and invite G. Gordon Liddy to run his anti-anarchist group as an adjunct facility. Also note that I have heard nothing of the atrocity in my city. News blackouts of this sort of thing are common.

Frankly, I'm stunned. I'm stunned at what is not happening. This is the most intelligent post I've seen. It's very very poignant. A half dozen supporters supporters? Yeah! I noticed that too.The man welcomed thousands of people onto his property. Where are they? Good question. The man is in a throw down with an impossible enemy. You read the backs of a lot of videos. :) Do you suppose he was thinking about the impact on his son getting himself shot would have? It isn't just about him. It's about Michigan. It's about the entire nation. Where are all the fine patriots?A million people standing quietly and peacefully nearby and praying for his victory would surely have some positive effect on the outcome of this horrible matter. What would have been his "victory"? Even ten thousand. Ten and twenty thousand people have been known to show up for sporting events and concerts. His life is on the line. The future of this country is at stake here. Isn't it?Where are the hundred thousand Michigan voters who signed the petition to put legalization on the ballot in Michigan? It's just possible that many of them are repelled by gun toting, bong shop owning, greasy rocknroller over grown teenagers. They may have just been adults who have a point of view when it comes to the law and drugs; parents who don't think their kids should be put in a cage with Bubba the happy rapist because of a joint found under the car seat. Waitaminnit; did you think all those voters dressed up in clown make up and went around freaking out squares? The nation will notice how many supporters he has, or doesn't have. The media will notice how many supporters he does, or doesn't have. This could be IT! It's time to do something instead of just talk about it. Laugh! Ever see "Monty Pythons Live of Brian"?A half dozen supporters? That's what happens when the only thing ppl. have is getting each other stoned. That's what happens when it's about the dope, not hemp or freedom or rights or peace (especially not peace as many posts here demonstrate). If I were a Hemp activist (I have other priorities) going up against the gummint would be nothing compared to the challenge of trying to not be associated with the dopers. Get rid of the dopers and you could get hemp legalized in a few days. Those who stand to lose if hemp were legal probably send regular donations to High Times magazine (H-E double hockey sticks, they probably are the publishers).

::sigh:: When will it all end? Unless you want to eventually live under a totalitarian government and a gestapo police force, I strongly suggest voting for the Libertarian Party on the next Presidental election. I think it's time the government learns that the people should have personal responsibility, not the government responsible for the people. Free yourself America. My condolences go out to Mr. Crosslin's family and friends, for a brave man who stood up for what he believed for. That's a true red-blooded American.

Raven, Tom Crosslin obviously stood up for his rights. He stood up and it cost him his life. Don't be surprised if many of the others who support the end of this war don't have the guts to stand up. The message the government sends is smoke pot and you will get DEATH. Stand up for freedom on your land and you'll get the same thing if the winstons in this world desire your property. i think that we should all stop the hippie hugging and start standing up for our rights. god put herb on the earth to be smoked he didnt put it here to be governed and policed then sold back to us bythe very same government who raped us of our freedom. ( at a price 10 times of its worth) if the feds would just simply tell the truth and legalize the stuff then wed all be happier, all of us. and as for me, personall i feel an enormous amount of pity for the poor souls who try come to my place looking for a fight. May all be blessed and have the will to stand up against tyranny and take back what is ours. If we allow ourselves to be beaten then where will we end up. Concentration camps, civil war, imprisonment for excercising free will and speaking out????? Where will it end? So hear my call, to you all, Hark this Raven nevermore. The Raven

The FBI will not protect youif you are targeted by organized criminalgroups ( based on my experience). Yeah, that's a good point. But they are happy to put youin jail for consensual acts. Like so many, they are collecting a pay check. Why do the Federal Police needto intervene in a local situation? It's a federal offense to shoot at planes and helicopters in the air. I wish they would concentrate on protecting people. It's not up to them. It's up to the people. Some ppl. are working very hard at this. We don't hear too much about them in the news. Keep your eyes on how the media covers this tragedy my friends.I have a feeling it will be muffled as much as possible, and this will be a good indication of the nature of the relationship between the "free press",and the federal overlords.Take note of the way the story is reported in the national news.Observe the way it is spun by your local broadcast puppets. After that, try and tell me about independent broadcast journalism, and who writes the news that influences the opinions of the "free" world.

Sincere condolensces to Tom's Family and Friends
First, I'd like to say how very sorry I was to hear of Tom's untimely demise. I did not have the pleasure of meeting Tom until January of 2000, at the first PRA kickoff rally. In the short time I've known him, I've come to think of Tom as a very remarkable man. He had the vision, energy and resources to make Rainbow Farm a VERY special place.I have about 400 high quality digital photos, some including Tom, taken at Rainbow Farm last Season. I will gladly snail-mail a photo CDROM to anyone who will agree to post one or more of these photos on their website. I'd like to do what I can to contribute to an on-line memorial to a very fine man and a very special campground.

CNN
Is there any footage of the protesters on CNN? The news said they approached the cops calling them murders but neither station could show footage because of a lightning storm passing over. So they say.

So....Winnie...
....What do you think?......Do you think that Mr Crosslin deservedthe federal execution?...Do you feel that this kind of wild west, policestate law enforcement is fair and proper in our "democracy"?Whatterms will you use to explain all this to the kids in your new playgroundfor homeschooled children,as they play in the sandbox that sits overthe spot where the earth was stained by Mr Crosslins blood? One thing that you have said that I agree with,is that yes,,the lawsneed "adjusting",,and that's basically what our goal is,,the adjustment,or elimination of certain laws that are far more harmful than good.Lawsthat are more about political and corporate profiteering, and racketeering, than they are about the concern for children,or people.....dddd

Croslin shooting
From what they said on the news the cops got a phone to Tom and he requested to talk to a third party. They refused and said he then became irate and cussed out the cops and cut off contact. He then went outside with a mini-14 and another person to look around the house. He spotted an FBI agent and took aim. The agent shot him and wounded the other person. One other person remains on the property as far as I know. This news should make Winston extremely happy. Sleep tight Mr. Smith.

FBI statis
I blame the FBI, but I blame the one who seperated them from God to begin with. We have 2 competing laws. One is mans laws which says to cage and kill cannabis users, and we have Gods laws which says that cannabis like all plants are good blessings for Food. When man lives with God, God is 1st in their lives, and that requires obeying the commandments of God. When a Godly man accepts the oath of any police organization, he accepts changing God from being 1st in his life to placing God 2nd or beyond. Police, FBI, CIA, et al. have had their souls seperated from them by oath. That brings displeasure to our Father. That man will place God other than 1st, along with all that comes when man does not place God 1st.Every one needs to realize that there is one who wishes to seperate you from your soul, and God our Father. It is important that you never let anything seperate you from our Father.

Winston Smith
Do you have any questions? It seems as though you have no trouble with the concept of caging humans for using cannabis. Think about that. It is difficult to comprehend for me. That concept seems like it could only manifest where there is lacking elementary compassion for the basic... What is wrong? Why do you hold on to such difficult notion? I know a pastor who told me marijuana killed his son, which explains where his disruption of reality comes from, yet cannabis or the M word equivalent is not what killed his son. Where does your seperation with reality come from? Do you feel safe enough to speak about it? If you ask you shall receive, and if not here, always think of our Father, whom promises through a clean robe that if you ask, He will answer. Take care of your eternal matters, for we don't know when it becomes too late. I bet you have many good qualities with in you and this does not coincide with your whole, wishing like us all to become better each day. It is better for you to accept me for using cannabis, for your own goodness, more than for my goodness. Let us see some of your compassionate side.

Hi Rabblerouser
Hi Mr. Rabblerouser, I agree that following orders is no excuse. It is also not the reason either. The reason is that Congress and the Presidentpass laws. The FBI is part of the executive branch. They enforce the laws as they are told to. The FBI is like the Army. You cannot blame the infantry man for the general'sorders. The general does what the commanderin chief tells him to do. Congress and the President are the problem. Hopefully public opinion will continue tochange so that the politicians can rationalizetaking actions that would otherwise get them unemployed. If the FBI agents all felt that drug usersshould be in jail but the laws said they should not be then the FBI would not be putting drug users in jail. They are pawns. Blame Congress. Blame the President. Even Clinton would only do what he thoughthe could without infuriating too many people.Thats why he waited until his last day in office to sign the International CriminalCourt treaty. His heart was in the right place but his balls were not. ( I do notmean that sexually). Once Clinton was out of office THEN he said pot smokers should not go to jail. He had nothing to lose. Ford who had the balls to pardon Nixon and Carter who had the balls to pardon thedraft dodgers were not reelected. That isthe choice they face - do the right thingand lose the next election. Few do the reallyrisky right thing. Especiallywith the drug issue because it gets used against them.

CNN's Greenfield at Large -- 10:30 PM ET
Hi Everyone, I wanted to make sure that you didn't miss seeing the program tonight if you want to. On CNN News they flash, I believe, a book that mentions the drug war. I'm only catching a little of what it's about. I haven't seen particulars on the web site yet. http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/greenfield/Airs 10:30 - 11 p.m. ET Monday - Friday / Replays 1:30 - 2 a.m. ET Monday, September 03, 2001 TONIGHT'S SHOW: William F. Buckley, Jr. and conservatism When President Bush talks about compassionate conservatism, he's using a new adjective for an idea -- or set of ideas -- that has been a driving force in Republican (and therefore Democratic, too) politics for the last four decades. The man largely responsible for bringing conservatism into the public eye -- and to the political fore -- is William F. Buckley, Jr.. On Friday, we had a one-on-one interview with Sen. Joe Lieberman. Tonight, to bookend our holiday-weekend set of one-on-one interviews, we'll be talking with Buckley about conservatism then and conservatism now. Like "liberalism," "conservatism" has meant different things at different times. It meant one thing when Buckley started "The National Review." It meant something else when he started "Firing Line." It meant different things to Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan and, today, to George W. Bush.

How wonderful to see you again! It's unfortunate that you dontseem to be able to elaborate on,or explain yourself, but at leastyou are still attempting to get peoples goats.I think it would be nice if you have kids of your own.I would imagineyou would be a responsible father,in a psychotic sort of way,,but Iwould just be tickled pink, when someone you love got busted for somedrug thing, and was treated like you treat anyone else who got snaredby the drug warrior natzi empire....It might give you a whole new outlookto see one of your "home schooled" youngsters get brutalized by someonelike yourself, and face some sort of absurd mandatory minimum sentence,,and then, your house and everything you own gets stolen by forfeiture tothe government.....I know what you would be saying,,,"Your honor,he'sa good kid,,,he just made a mistake". Winston,,,you are the type of person that terror and cruelty thrives on.You are the kind that would have been a highly decorated officer under Hitler. You would have been a highly valued asset in the KGB...Your hate is cut fromthe same cloth that caused black people to be lynched,,,you would have beenhappy to gleefully slaughter Jewish people as a natzi,,,you would probablydrop a dime on your mom.....You are addicted to the drug known as hate, and it is an addiction that there areno known treatments for.....You should take a close look in the mirror, and askyourself what God would say about your life.I dont hate you,,I feel sorry for you,,but I do hate the way you and your typehave ruined thousands of peoples lives,,for no reason, other than an obsessiveillusion.....Sincerelydddd

34 acres o' land
It's a foregone conclusion that Crosslin can kiss all that land good bye (gads, just thinking about ppl. like that having so much...). Hopefully I will at least be among the first bidders. I can think of all kinds of really neat things to do with 34 acres. A camp ground for home schooled kids; they need somewhere to go through out the year. Or a nice big park; some place educational/recreational. A park for the 21st century. I shall contact Scott Teters office to see what I can do!

I want them to know we know what is going on and they better not hurt anyone. Update
I don't have cable, so I don't get CNN, so I don't know how much anybody else knows, but I just watched the local news and it looks like they're getting ready to move in.A farmer pulled up to the roadblock to try to milk his cows and the cops told him maybe in a couple of hours. Read whatever you want into that statement. They said some SWAT goons and an ambulence went down the road to the "compound" (their term, not mine) and came back out, but they couldn't tell if anyone was inside. Hope no one gets hurt. Is CNN covering this? How about the networks? I went to see Jay and silent Bob, and got back too late to see the network news.

The FBI?! What do they this is another Waco incident? Helicopters and artillery, is that what you call a peaceful resolution? I thought this country was built on standing up for what we believe in? But good ol' Uncle Sam has to shake his finger and condemn Mr Crosslin. Taking his child away is that the best solution? I thought I paid my taxes so these people can catch the real criminals. What they are saying is that Mr. Crosslin is a criminal of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. PRAISE CROSLLIN!

Support
I totally agree that more people need to be there. Everybody is a patriot in words but not actions. I've never been to the campground and I don't know this man personally but I understand his frustration. I live in California and would be willing to buy a plane ticket to Michigan and stay there for the duration of this to show support. I've been doing what I can online but feel that it isn't nearly enough. Is there anybody out there that wants to start forming groups to go there to show support?

About a half dozen supporters?
I also posted this note at another article here at Cannabis News. The other article said "dozens"...so my post said "dozens". I won't post it again...much as I want to scream it from the rooftops.----------------------------------------------Frankly, I'm stunned. I'm stunned at what is not happening.A half dozen supporters supporters? The man welcomed thousands of people onto his property. Where are they? The man is in a throw down with an impossible enemy. It isn't just about him. It's about Michigan. It's about the entire nation. Where are all the fine patriots?A million people standing quietly and peacefully nearby and praying for his victory would surely have some positive effect on the outcome of this horrible matter.Even ten thousand. Ten and twenty thousand people have been known to show up for sporting events and concerts. His life is on the line. The future of this country is at stake here. Isn't it?Where are the hundred thousand Michigan voters who signed the petition to put legalization on the ballot in Michigan? The nation will notice how many supporters he has, or doesn't have. The media will notice how many supporters he does, or doesn't have. This could be IT! It's time to do something instead of just talk about it.A half dozen supporters?

With all the supporters that Mr. Crosslinhas perhaps he could avoid a forfeiturebe selling the property to the groupof supporters that he has. When this blowsover they could sell it back. If you sell a property it cannot be forfeited by the buyercan it?
