McConnell: I Won't Support Legalizing Marijuana

hemp Washington, D.C. -- Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday told reporters he has no plan to support the legalization of marijuana as he pushes an effort to legalize hemp.

“I do not have any plans to endorse the legalization of marijuana,” he said, adding that marijuana and hemp are “two entirely separate plants.”

The top Republican introduced a measure in March to legalize hemp, taking it off the federal list of controlled substances and allowing it to be sold as an agricultural product.

Hemp has small amounts of THC, the main psychoactive component of marijuana.

“It is a different plant. It has an illicit cousin which I choose not to embrace,” McConnell said of hemp on Tuesday.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced last month a plan to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level, removing it from the list of federally controlled substances and instead allowing states to regulate the drug.

Marijuana has been legalized in some form in 30 states and Washington, D.C. Recreational use of the drug is permitted in nine states and D.C.

McConnell's appalling ignorance
McConnell: “I do not have any plans to endorse the legalization of marijuana,” he said, adding that marijuana and hemp are “two entirely separate plants.”

No, Senator, they are not two entirely separate plants. You need to be educated.

Hemp and marijuana are members of the same plant genus, Cannabis Sativa L., although they are not identical.

It seems that McConnell has made a fool of himself. Maybe he has become too senile to think clearly or to learn anything new.

Addressing the Big Marijuana Boogie Man
Cannabis is not Tobacco (So, It’d Be Foolish to Regulate the Same Way) By Dr. Frank - Special to Cannabis Culture on May 16, 2018 https://www.cannabisculture.com/content/2018/05/16/cannabis-is-not-tobacco-so-itd-be-foolish-to-regulate-the-same-way

Cannabis does not contain nicotine. Allow alternative ingestion methods. Allow personal home growing. Remember the Entourage effect. Don't pass laws that are too restrictive because they encourage the black market.

Hemp’s the new gold rush.”
"More and more state-licensed cannabis producers are exploring growing hemp for CBD oil production in light of rapidly falling cannabis prices in Oregon. Since 2015, the price for a gram of cannabis has fallen about 50%, according to a report by the Oregon Office of Economic Analysis. Meanwhile, farmers can reportedly make more than $100,000 an acre growing hemp.

As grower Jerrad McCord told the Associated Press, “Word on the street is everybody thinks hemp’s the new gold rush.”"

Say What?
The leader of the "do nothing congress" is openly saying what he will NOT do????

Looks as if things get done without the Kentucky do nothing.

Just as well he lies about everything anyway. This will be just one more of those lies when he finds out where all the money has gone...to the trumpster...so funny when they speak as well sounding as if one doesn't know the right hand from the left.

Insignificant
M.M. is a mosquito. A minor annoyance.

Americans are RE-legalizing cannabis with or without the help of IGNOIDS. Not waiting for this politician or any other. A nobody.

Thank You Mitch
Anyone in the republican party hears about this is going to start wondering just what will he support other than racism and greed...

Another point to be made for why it should be available to everyone! Just as it was before 1937. Wow what a goober.

He won't get past the next election with that disposition...

He still believes the lies he's heard for eons.
He started getting the hood pulled off his eyes with hemp.

Perhaps he will face the truth some day.

And he may be afraid. There are a lot of seething entities our there that are dangerous people and they are angry about this legalization of cannabis. They have built and fed a severe and unreasonable hatred for a long time. It won't disappear easily.

Of course he can't
Of course McConnell can't support legalization of pot. He still has to prove his Republican "bona fides" in his Party.
