medical Washington, D.C. -- In an attempt to push forward the acceptance of the effectiveness of medical marijuana, the American Psychiatric Association has declared their unanimous vote in support of the legal protection of patients with doctors' recommendations to use the herb for medical reasons.

Proclaimed in an action paper awaiting approval from the APA Board of Trustees this December, the argument noted that 12 states have already adopted the laws allowing regulated use of medical marijuana.

It pointed out, "The threat of arrest by federal agents, however, still exists. Seriously ill patients living in these states with medical marijuana recommendations from their doctors should not be subjected to the treat of punitive federal prosecution for merely attempting to alleviate the chronic pain, side effects, or symptoms associated with their conditions or resulting from their overall treatment regimens...[We] support protection for patients and physicians participating in state approved medical marijuana programs."

Being the second action paper put out calling for further facilitations in the research "into the medical utility of marijuana," the vote was described to be "a landmark, a proud day for our profession," as declared by Abraham L. Halpern, M.D., professor emeritus of psychiatry at the New York Medical College, and former president of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.

"As physicians, we cannot abide our patients being subject to arrest and jail for using a physician-recommended treatment that clearly relieves suffering for many who are not helped by conventional treatments," Dr. Halpern added, as quoted by the Salem News.

The consequences that have been facing those using medical marijuana has been a growing issue in the state.

A most recent incident related to the controversy involved a Gary Ross, who filed a court case complaining that his company terminated him for using the herb, despite the fact that it was doctor-approved, as reported by the AP.

It seems like in December the board of trustees is supposed to do something to approve this action plan. Do you know anything about that and do you think we should prepare a media push on it when it comes out?

I saw the movie, it was light entertainment only IMHO. But for someone not familiar with the Beatles music it would be really good because it uses a lot of their songs.

That's sweet. I didn't think anything bad about what you said. We get news from other countries but we don't see anything on the AP or Reuters. I have noticed over the years that those are the news services that count and articles are often written and expanded by writers from those sources. We also often see a little tv news coverage which is very important to our success. It's a slow day for me around home and I thought I'd sit and watch MSNBC or CNN. On MSNBC it's all about OJ Simpson and I don't care about him. I wish we had a real news channel.

Also, I have yet to see this get ANY play with Reuters, AP or any other news outlets.

Curious how that tends to happen with any highly positive cannabis research or medical news.

As I remember, Whig saw that movie just the other day.

I saw the trailer. Great work with the Beatle's music.

APA supporting medical cannabis
This APA thing seems like it should be huge news, but I notice it's prompting little discussion so far. It seems huge to me, I mean isn't the APA the largest representative body of psychiatric professionals in the country by far?

That is a "vote" that has to be impossible to ignore and a huge blow to the drug warriors.

Check out this movie
Today is the first time I've seen anything about this film. I will definitely be checking it out. I think everyone here will appreciate this film.

Here's a little detail about the movie.

A love story set against the backdrop of the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, mind exploration and rock 'n' roll, moving from the dockyards of Liverpool to the creative psychedelia of Greenwich Village, from the riot-torn streets of Detroit to the killing fields of Vietnam. The star-crossed lovers, Jude and Lucy, along with a small group of friends and musicians, are swept up into the emerging anti-war and counterculture movements, with Dr. Robert and Mr. Kite as their guides. Tumultuous forces outside their control ultimately tear the young lovers apart, forcing Jude and Lucy--against all odds--to find their own way back to each other.

Again with the 'Push' Slander that Implies Pusher
"In an attempt to push forward the acceptance of the effectiveness of medical marijuana, the American Psychiatric Association has declared their unanimous vote in support of the legal protection of patients with doctors' recommendations to use the herb for medical reasons."

"push forward"

push forward? The continuing use of the word "push" by the media makes legal protection of patients (a defensive strategy) look like an offensive attack on the national populace. Shame on the media for continuing to forment prejudice against God's healing herb!
